My own special way of saying thank you for all the junk mail
Mr.Guvernment replied to Christianb's topic in Slack Space
i recall when penis enlargements first came out a few years back - supposedly China had the HIGHEST rate of purchase, and it was mainly wifes getting them as gifts for their husbands...haha if my wife ever got me one!!! ..LOL i would go get her a certificate to get tucked - tightened and enlarged and be - "honey - 2 can play at this game!" -
Well, when you install any new hardware - for me it is a rule to reformat, to get ride of old useless drivers. I format often anyways, i just put .net rc2 on my vaio with my g4 4600. but anyways - don't go buy 3dmark - i have also heard the rumours of its prefernce for Nvidia cards. Also, as i said your CPU and memory AND hard drive speed are affected - if you got a slow 5400 rpm HD - then that is gonna limit how fast the data can be read anbd sent to the rest of your system. Don't think JUSt cause u got a new video card your scores will fly through the roof. - unless u got from like a TNT 2 32mb card to a g4 4600 ultra like i did, from liek 6000 on 3d makr to about 10,000 - darn pc133! Look at cold hard numbers - actual specs /' tech details for each card. - and toms hardware - his reviews are okay, - but his wording is crap and his comparisions are usually a joke and recycled with new product names. Quote: I was gonna go for this card myself until i saw its problems with some games, like displaying bad textures in UT2003 and also a mate of mine bought an 8500 radeon and he doesnt like it, so i stayed away. Maybe they have changed but i need proof before i jump the boat. I jumped over to my P4 because the Intel chips are so much cheaper now than they were and i thought i would give them a go, but the radeon still seems to have problems and at nearly 50% extra cost of the GF4 Ti4600 i didnt think it was worth it i got ut2003 - full details, max res - 1600 x 1200 - not ONE issue with this game - problems like that can be related to MANY other issues - so to just right out blame a video card to me is not very smart, just an easy way out. And why does your mate not like his 8500 - i got a 7500 in my moms comp - my friend has the 64mb 8500 - no issues, and he plays more games and watches more movies then i do!

Quote: Here's a few puzzling things to add to my above posting.. When I got the 'boot device not found' error message, the table that shows all the connected hardware (the one just before the XP boot logo shows) had the 'Pri Master Disk' AND 'Pri Slave Disk' fields blank. However as I said I rebooted and checked for them in the BIOS... there was no problems and the system booted fine the next time round. Faulty IDE cable perhaps? COuld be you have it in the bios to "manual" which means the bios knows the drives are there and skips looking for them, so it does not show in start up, this is usually done to give u a few more seconds off your start up time.

Hey all well, my vaio is pi**ing me off so i am gonna get a new mobo / mem for it. since it comes in a pretty sony case i want to keep it, so it has to be Micro ATX. i would prefer pc2100 or higher support, or rambus. and also has to have an agp for my g4 4600. i have checked out asus and they only have one board i like, but want to know if i got more options.... Asus board: P4B533-M http://www.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=p4b533-m any recommendations? if i can not find a good one i will jst get a new case / power supply and get an ATX board. - just that sony has the front curved so the cdrom and dvd bunrer have curved face plates on them.

Need new Micro ATX mobo ??????????? thoughts
Mr.Guvernment replied to Mr.Guvernment's topic in Hardware

Delta Force, VIA chipset, SYSDUMP error! Ahhhh
Mr.Guvernment replied to HELLBRINGER's topic in Games
check out that link to df HQ - everything i have read about the sysdump error is usually game related. u got the latest game update? http://www.landwarrior.org/forums/index.php -
there will always be some way around it, i hope
-
if it is 2 years old could be the mobo / bios does not like Xp because of that ACPI or something like that? (pro's what is it called..lol) a protocol that XP uses............ i had that issue on an old pIII 600 - it would reboot often for no reason. - turens out the mobo was too old.
-
it is dying when u say clicking - u mean like literal clicks, clicks i ahd the samething witha 40g maxtor - died about a month later, sometimes it was okay, other times, dead!

256MB SDRAM + 64MB recognise 196MB internal memory
Mr.Guvernment replied to albert1967's topic in Hardware
mmm whas it ECC - registered or none? could be that also..? i had alwasy heard to NOT mix pc100 and pc133 - as it will cause problems. i also head if you have a pc100 mobo, that pc133 will run at pc100 or pc66, but will never again run @ 133. -
may check em out - any known problems yet?
-
hehe i am not the only one?>..lol i know i have mobo issues as well, but yeah put in the same printer on my Vaio below, and BAM! would boot up fine, but then freeze the system at the desktop OR as soon as i start a program, b.s.o.d!!! i have not yet put it in under my new home comp - and not sure if i want too!

Extra charge for 2 PCs on an AT&T broadband connection?
Mr.Guvernment replied to SnapperOne's topic in Hardware
put a second nic in your PC computer and use ICS - then both go through the same NIC / MAC adress and then also no issues with file sharing. but good luck sending files form msn and such on the internal computer unless u use 3rd party software to NAT. -
Quote: Just a note, today's new Programable Graphic Processing Units like the Geforce 3 and 4 and the ATI 8500 and 9000 series were designed to offload much much more processing from the main CPU (Athlon, P4, whathaveyou) to the GPU. A game that required a 1ghz processor before, might only need a 700mhz processor if optimized for the new graphics cards. The CPU is then freed up to crunch on other things, like network gameplay for the game, some sound issues and I/O and AI for the game. So I think the CPU issue is moot for now. A 1.6ghz Athlon XP and an ATI 9700 Pro should run the new DOOM 2 without a hitch. DOOM 2 will rely heavily on the GPU first then the system CPU second. I await the flamage. Actually, what u have said i have seen around alot more, more and more games are becoming GPU dependent and not as much cpu depend as in previous years, that is why they are getting so fast and much more memory, i mean my video cards have more memory they likely a LARGE majority of people who own computers in this world...lol But, at the same time, with this increase in GPU power, developers are then include more things which are cpu depended since a large load has been taken off the cpu - so developers are using the newly free resrouce to make things better.

Quote: The 9700 Pro is the only DirectX 9 card available. ATI has had many problems with their drivers. Nvidia is always on top of their drivers releasing on average of 3 to 4 updates for every 1 release of ATI's. . ATI does not have dirvers issues any more, that is an old excuse! - and not even one for me as i have NEVER had an issue with ATI drivers and have had far more with NIVIDIA drivers. i have both cards myself - of course the 9700 pro rules over the ti 4600 i got. as said above, wait a few months till the new FX comes out then all card prices will drop and grab a 9700 - it is far better then the 4600 - not to mention it has about 19g of memory bandwidth where as the ti4600 has 10g of memory bandiwdth per second. the 9500 just has slower clock speeds. What will be the main use of your system? if it is strictly gaming, then nvidia - if it is dvd / multimedia / gfx and game - go ATI all the way - ati is a FAR better all around card.
-
Matrox - then ATI. i have alwasy used ATi though, never matrox, that is just baes on ym reading, i personaly would go with ATI for it's multimedia abilities as well.

Windows Media Player Series 9 FINAL - LINK HERE
Mr.Guvernment replied to Technique's topic in Software
Quote: Quote: As a follow-up to my last post, I discovered something interesting... If I have the player paused, and skip ahead to the next track, it changes nearly instantly, so it appears to hang only while changing tracks during playback. Also, isn't Winamp 3 free anyway, APK? Sorry, I had to call you on that one... Probably is... I have not used it very much here, I am a WMP user. * Whoever found that "error" (of tunes still playing from WinAmp) really ought to write them on it anyhow, believe me... (It really is VERY easy to fix up, just some code in either the Form.close event, or the Form.Destroy event of the main form/screen of WinAmp!) APK i use winamp 3 for a few hours a day, and never had this issue!!!!!!!!! and i am always switching tracks and stuff that i prob shouldnt, i close winamp, music is gone! -

Quote: Ya, I actually use winamp V2.81 for playing MP3s. I've never had good luck with mp3s in media player and I think winamp V3.X is too bloated... same, media player seems to download a new codec for almost every diff mp3 i play, where as winamp, don't need any new ones downloaded, is a pain in the arse really. I use media player for the odd movie that powerDVD won't keep the aspect ratio for, and that is about it! -
Delta Force, VIA chipset, SYSDUMP error! Ahhhh
Mr.Guvernment replied to HELLBRINGER's topic in Games
the sysdump error is not your computer, but delta fiorce - or is a it a blue screen of death sysdump? are you using any trainers? this occured in DF2 mainly when people made maps that had items that where not place on level ground, and if you ran through that area, u would get a system dump. these are usually cause by badly made maps. check out http://www.landwarrior.org/forums/index.php is the best site for df issues. i play both df2 and dflw and i have not had a system dump on dflw yet, i do not recall, but would get them often on df2. often also, as i rember, restart your computer, and then play the game right away, but not if you have had your comp on for a while. -
are yuou logged in as an "admin" or a "guest" ? i would assume a guest, or limited account if you can not get access to your deskotp via an app, otherwise C:\Documents and Settings\Your user name here\Desktop (rioght click "start" go to "explore" right click on the desktop folder and set proper permissions, be sure to turn off "simple" file sharing so it shows the "security" tab that may work, but not sure.

i had a friend install this cause she got a virus, she kept it up to date and running and 3 days ago got another virus. SO not to trusting of it right now, i used it about a year ago and liked it, considering it was free.
