Hey all, i do tech support and keep getting customers who ditched AOL - but u know how they leave in all that extra crap even after uninstalling it.. i was curious if any one knew of a guide, or site or a way to completly remove ever last file that AOL puts on your system, remove all adapters it puts in etc etc But this is also something that simple minded people will need to be able to do, so not much 3rd party software can be involved... So, any info or leads would be great, a search on google did not do much for me.

How to COMPLETLY remove AOL from a system???????
Mr.Guvernment replied to Mr.Guvernment's topic in Slack Space
Quote: Oh, BTW, I have been provisding tech support for about 5 year now too. And if their unnstaller leaves anything at all on the computer it would be in /program files/common files But those files still would not affect the browser. Umm....do you work for MSN? hene work for MSN no. and form what i have heard AOL leaves FAR more then a few files in your common files area. This is why i am searching around for some answers. Even after you uninstall it it leaves it's virtual adapters in place often - but i think they recently changed that. I am thinking that this customer had used an older version of AOL. as apply SP1 to IE 6 seemed to fix the issue. BUt even as the customer said every time he click on a link it would ask him to connect via AOL - but i am also thinking he did not properly uninstall it, even though it was not in his add /remove. -
Hey all well i am looking into ISP's in Costa Rica and well came across some, but i am not sure what the words mean as i added up exchnegs rates and it came out that i can get a T1 for $55 US a month, which i know can't be right!!!! and if it is!! woohooo!!..lol so, anyone know what these words mean: Velocidad Contrato sin compromiso Contrato por tres años Inversión* --(installation??) Mensualidad Inversión* Mensualidad [/list:u]

From a Merchant of PayPal: (my work) Our company uses PayPal - but no longer as of Nov 25th as they are not allowing online gaming transaction to go through., they are fast and reliable - their support suxs of course. Also - E-checks - If a player has only a bank account associated to paypal and sends you money, it takes 4 days min. for those funds to clear PayPal before you receive them HOWEVER! paypal sends a lovely email to the custmer saying the money was sent and u have it already - when it fact u don't and wont for a min of 4 days. Paypal u are not insured on charge backs either - so if someone sends u money, they can go to their CC company - fight it, get it back, and then paypal takes the money back from you. no questions asked. Their fee's are redecent. You may also want to check out Neteller - www.neteller.com - they do charge fees for transactions - NETeller DOES cover chargebacks - so if someone does a charge back - they pay for it, not you. u also have www.firepay.com - but unless they have changed their veriofitcaiont system don't bother - as you are no insured from chargebacks. i don't know if neteller or firepay are accepted on ebay - but since E-bay just bought PayPal - u are best to go with PayPal for transfering funds.

Quote: it doesnt really matter. it's all gotta go thru the system bus anyway and ide is limited to single duplex. I know adaptec does not like if both your cd drives are on the same IDE so i usually go 1 hd and 1 cd on 1 ide chan and other on th other to mix it up. i don't use adaptec any mroe thought, but i still do it.

this argument will go on FOREVER!! and it all goes back to PARENTS! - parents should be monitoring what their children play in their home and if all parents did this in stead of letting their Xbox , or ps2 babysit! parents should be taking care of their kids better. i have been playing video games for about 12 years and i have never had the urge to kill someone. SO i guess that throws their theory out the window. Kids who murder - already have personal issue and it is not the game, likely with out the game they would have done it anyways. Seen it on t.v or from another person doing it, so don't blame video games for it all! hell, look @ bush - how many kids now want to go out and kill an iraq'n person? Oh but it is okay to show war on t.v! faq that!

Need Advice on purchasing an ethernet router................
Mr.Guvernment posted a topic in Slack Space
Hey all. our company is moving to a new office and we are looking into an Ethernet router - we have a cisco router but someone decided they don't want to use that (so i will take it for myself ) Anyways, they told me to look at the Netopia R9100 Ether Router http://www.netopia.com/en-us/equipment/routers/r910/index.html Now to be honest, i don't know JACK about this stuff..lol So i was hoping that someone could help me out, give me your recommendaions for Ethernet Routers and such. This will be for a small buisness so it has to be decent - and i just found out that our office connections witll be a 512kb Cable connection. - pretty crappy if u ask me! but then again we don't need alot of bandwidth and since our office will be moved into our house - i will be getting my own line..lol So what works, what doesn't - what is flexible and gives u good control, is fairly straight forward in configuring it. Input is appreciated! -

Hey all, rather big MS security whole that has been around for 11 weeks, incase u did not know about it - it can be fixed with XP SP1, but for those of you who can not get SP1 (due to illegal blacklisted keys) - or just have not yet, check out TechTV......... http://cgi.techtv.com/mediamodule?action...=20020910095425 or look for this file uplddrvinfo.htm located in your C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\System\DFS and delete that file, or rename it to something other then .html This page file can be used to delete files from ANY folder on your computer. check out the link, has more info. THIS IS NOT A JOKE, I AM SERIOUS

Mr.Guvernment replied to pr-man's topic in Software

Hey all Does anyone know of a script or program that can be purchased, or downloaded that will run on a person computer from a web site/ address, with their consent of course that will tell me their system specs? basically i do tech support, and many people have NO clue where to find this info, or they lie about it. So is there a script (php or something) or a program that will scan a users computer and be able to tell me: O/S CPU speed / make Vid card make Sound card make Memory installed Hard drives Monitor Res. Possibly Modem or NIC cards DirectX version and even a bonus - items that start on start up that are in the system tray - this would be a bonus. - or even just ALL programs installed on that computer. I am more worried about the technical specs then anything... any info is appreciated.

Quote: The 8MB cache does help performance considerably, from what I've read. I however, am partital to Maxtors, currently. i got an 8mb 120G drive, it is deum nice, i would go with anything Western D , i had only used Maxtor (60g) and IBM (20g) before, and myself had problems with both dying on me. (others have not though). The drive is alo very quiet and smooth sounding. the 8mb cache helps more for databse type info - that is where u would see a real gain. i use mine for an ftp drive, all 120g's. i would recommend it, it is a sweet drive.

For heavy internet and games which is better WinXP/Win2k?
Mr.Guvernment replied to pr-man's topic in Software
I am not sure exactly, but i know a few people here have posted links to sites and that maybe do a serarch under Xp services May bring something up. Although with a system like yours, you would not notice a lag. i don't turn off any services and my comp boots up in less then a min.
