For heavy internet and games which is better WinXP/Win2k?
Mr.Guvernment replied to pr-man's topic in Software
XP is FAR more compatible then 2k, even with sp3 Go Xp if you got more then 128 mb of memory and just like 2k, u can turn off alot of services u don't need. XP is also a more stable, for me, then 2k - XP running idol after boot up uses 88mb of mem on my system (see work comp - pIII 933) a while back i put 2k back in a, and i hoestly B.S.O.D it 7 times in less then an hour. - i dunno what was up - put XP back in, no problems. - not to mention various games would not work in 2k, and yet they did work under XP. Also, for the internet, don't matter, that is more for browsers (or is that what u meant?) IE is all good, Mozilla is worth a try though, it is nice, although me personaly have not seen the gain in speed that some on here say. -
How Do I Hook Up Car Subs And Amp To My Computer???
Mr.Guvernment replied to Snatch's topic in Slack Space
^^^^^^ exactly your sound out will NOT power that - i got dual 12" out of my JVC shelf system and it works great, but you would need to go out to an AMP then to the sub's as your sound card would not have the power to run that. i did howeverhave a Sony walkman powering ther box using a PC speaker computer and using the amp side of it , it worked. -
Hey all, i am an avid fan on winrar, i just like it alot more then winzip, well, had to extract some archives today, and had i think about 29 of em all at the same time extracting on a server with apIII 700 and 512mb of memory and look at winrar go! - each file was about 100- 150 mb. i know there maybe sone better apps out there, but this does it for me! Even when i brought them all outta "background" mode, not'n changed!

A Script / program that will..................
Mr.Guvernment replied to Mr.Guvernment's topic in Slack Space
^^^ that the thing, it would be kew if it work like 3dmarks prgoram, it simply uses an ActiveX control i assume, and tadda! the user really does not install a whole program, which i KNOW our customer would not do, as opposed to simply accepting a security warning. the problem with 3dmarks - it is a service they provide, it runs on their servers and all that, so u have very little control over it, and basically all customers that use it, their info is sent to 3dmark for their needs, what ever it maybe. If that 3dmark program could simply be bought and u run by yourself of your servers///, that would be idealy what i need. Check it out, it will baically give you an idea of EXACTLY what i need - minus the fact it has to run through 3dmarks servers -
Why u using 2003 Beta when the full version is out?

A Script / program that will..................
Mr.Guvernment replied to Mr.Guvernment's topic in Slack Space
What i need exaclty is for our customers. Basically we aer trying to implement a support system were people go to a web site, and put in the info, instead of just emailing something in. SO basically wanted it so the customer could click a link, and it will scan their computer, and tell them(in an IE window, or something) their computer specs, which can then be sent to us via email... it seems 3dmark has something like what i need: http://www.3dmark.com/measurementservices/supportmark/?smdemo now just wondering if there are other companies that make something like this? Can AIDA32 do that or?? Just be ncie to have some options.. -
haha yepper ahd that a while back is just hilarious!..lol and so true!

Quote: If your CPU isn't pegged during decompression your decrompressor isn't making proper use of it. I like Winzip better. Winzip has just been around the longest, they've made minute changes every version and so things have just about always been stable. Honorable mention goes to ACDZip for it's intuitive functionality. Most unstable freeware alternative goes to QuickZip . -Christian Yes, but decompression can also be affect by a slow hard drives as well, especially larger files., u can have a p4 2.0 maxed out, but if u got a 5400 rpm HD, it will slow it down alot. P.S - the drive on that comp are ultra SCSI - it takes way less then a minute to extract 1 100mb file. - which to me is good. i DESPISE! winAce - most useless archiver i think.

^^^ ahahha u serios, lol as for rip's don't bother man, they hard ever work! is not worth it.

If it is your display driver (and u got an nividia card),. or Nividia, it will usually have like nvdis4_dll or something like that on the B.S.O.D yes, this cane have MANY thing which cause it, but is it good to provide what worked for diff, people as often people have the same problems. NO harm in people suggesting things, this is what the forum is for and how i have solved %90 of my problems, by trying what other people have and it works.

Get a new floppy drive and flash it, or boot from a 98 cdrom, and the use the dos prompt, or burn the flash file to a cd and then put the cd in when u are at the does prompt from the 98cd.

Quote: Why would a removable HDD cage make a hit on performance? it's still connected to the mobo's IDE controller. i always thought that removable drivers were considerably slower in their connection from the drive into the cage. guess i was wrong.

My InstallShield has an attitude problem
Mr.Guvernment replied to Tom-boy's topic in Everything New Technology
Quote: Still no luck. I can't remove all the temp-files since they are essential, but there are approx. 21 MBs worth of Java zips left. Should I remove these as well? Last time I erased them, the whole system freaked out. Asa clutch said, temp file are just that "temp" files and can all be deleted. Reboot your comp, then manually go in and delete the files. - Unless you save downloads into your temp folder? -
Quote: Windows Update is always pretty horrible for me, pages load fine but when it comes to getting the updates down, it can take a while. Obviously, it must be getting alot of traffic so i can understand why its sometimes slow. I havent bothered with Hotmail since it told me that i had blocked the maximum number of ppl allowed, just too much spam mail for me That is why i set my account up so only people on my contact list can send em emails.

Quote: lol...well yea my copy seemed to have found its way on to my harddrive somehow too 8) how did that get there i wonder lol...well to the point...my page file is on a separate harddrive which is only a 1.2gb drive and i use that for pagefile space and my primary HD is a 8gb partitioned into two 4gb drives. if that is the case, did u get a ripp'd version or a full bin/cue? if u got a bin/cue, what release?as there wasonly 1 legit release - as always And as said above 0 if they game is good enough buy it! Developers do deserve the money for the hard work.

Have you checked your system volume? go into your volumes option and have it show all devices 9line in / mic / etc) and make sure they are all turned to the max if anything to see if that halps. Also make sure the volume slider on WinDVD is turned up.

I will say once again, myself, or my uncle have NEVER had any dirver related issue with ATI's cards. I would have gotten an ATI aiw 8500 128mb card but could not find them anywhere, so i got a g4 4600 ultra. And hopefully by next year ATi will have their 256mb versions out (as in the specs it says support for 128mb or 256mb) i would take ATi any day over Nvidia - Nvidia does have a "faster" driver system going, but again @ the same time, why does a company have to release drivers SO often? ATI may not release them as often because they do not need to? Yet at the same time, these means that people who are having issues that are driver related have to wait. Anyways, just my 2 cents' worth. Either way, i look @ the specs of each card, and compare them both, then chekc out sites that have done "fair" benchmarks, and check forums on what people who have the cards think, that is the best way to go,. Diff, people will have Diff. experiences with cards - mine for both nvidia and ATi have been good (although i have had more B.S.O.D with nividia cards (tnt2 riva /;g4 4600 ultra) then i have ever had with ATI (never had any).

unless you are a"hardcore" user, with like Access, Excel and such, you will not notice a large diff. in office if all you use is Word and outlook, Xp added a lot more features, and fixed previous bugs etc.
