Windows Xp just ask if you want to "open" the cd - which is how the built in software works. right click on the burner drive - go to properties / Autoplay / and choose what "content" so Blank CD - then choose "Open writable cd folder" and TADA!

Well, they made this demo so u can not add "3rd party" maps, it even says so when you try to choose a map i put in from the menu darn programmers! tak'n away all the fun!

RICO Rules - 400 cd's - nothing - well heck to some 10,000 is nothing i guess my RICO 4x i used in my old work to burn ISP cd's - i did well over 1000+ in the span of a few months - not to mention the 500 + blanks i have - as well as how many other copies i burned for friends i know that amount is not to much - but i still have that drive and it will copy anything - read anything!! i lvoe my old Rico! HP the earlier models i did not like, my uncle had 2 of them and they had alot of problems reading burned cd's i made.

Weird new hardware after formatting and installing WinXPSP1
Mr.Guvernment replied to smokinkane's topic in Hardware
Nero - and some other apps put in a "image" drive. i had an app that added like a virtual HD - which was not really there. however - nero has never done this - if u have no burner connected - it will ask u to use a "image drive" or something - but to my knowledge it does not add anything to your "my computer" area. -
dido i went through 3 yamaha's in one week, they just died on me one after the other (10x models) all of a sudden, it would work, i would reboot, and POOF! gone, not working nadda as far as i am concerned Yamaha drives are CRAP! - stick to making motorcycles! and stuff.

Use Access?? or make an MySQL database and use Access or PHP as the interface? (Access - using ODBC) if that was an option

i love u man!!! <---- never knew technet was free - though u had to pay for it or something. From technet: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q316400& Quote: "An Unexpected Error Has Occurred (536821760)" Error Message When You Try to Install Windows XP The information in this article applies to: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Microsoft Windows XP Professional SymptomsWhen you attempt to install Windows XP, the installation process may not complete successfully. Setup may stop at the beginning of the process or immediately after the first required restart, and then you receive an error message similar to the following: An unexpected error has occurred. (536821760) occurred at line 1768 in D:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\arcdisp.c CauseThis behavior can occur because of damaged random access memory (RAM) modules or a damaged RAM slot. ResolutionTo resolve this issue, use one or more of the following methods, as necessary: Remove one or more of the RAM modules in your computer, leaving at least the minimum amount of RAM required for Windows XP installation. If this resolves the issue, either replace these modules with new RAM modules or reinsert them after Setup is completed. NOTE: Verify that your computer's performance is not affected when you reinsert the old RAM modules. -or- Install the RAM modules into different (unused) RAM slots in your computer. -or- If you still experience problems before or after Setup, replace all of your computer's RAM modules with new RAM modules.

Quote: Quote: Quote: ibm also makes a 15k drive Western digital i think was one of the first 15,000 rpm IDE drives, but it was only availible in 18 and 36g sizes. this was maybe 2 months back... i saw the nice 200g HD out, but they are like $650 canadian.!! ?? Links please. As far as I'm aware no IDE drive faster than 7200rpm exists. Experiments into faster IDE drives (IBM published some of their findings) was a heat issue and the end result was staying at 7200rpm was the only current option. Hey m8, will look at that now. i found one the western (the 120g drives), - but they were just comparing it to SCSI drives cuase of it's 8mb buffer. - only 7200 RPM. The other one was a Fujitsu - Fujitsu's Silent Strike: The MAM3184MP With Ultra160 and 15,000 rpm Fujitsu MAM3184MP Capacity----------- 18.4 / 36.8 GB Rotation speed---- 15,000 rpm Seek Time--------- 3.5 ms Cache Memory---- 8096 KB Warranty----------- 3 years Fujitsu has set high goals for itself: back in January, we tested a 10,000 rpm drive (MAN3367MP) that impressed with its performance and acceptable noise level. Now, Fujitsu has upped the stakes once more - the MAM series at 15,000 rpm is supposed to conquer the high-end sector. Just one word in advance: Fujitsu is a master of its trade. According to Fujitsu's website, this drive offers seek times of only 3.5 ms, a speed that had been considered almost impossible only a few years ago. The tradeoff for such high performance is a low data density: 17,716 bit/mm (450,000 bpi), a figure which is anything but record-breaking. However, low data density is a neccessity at such high rotation speeds. Fujitsu offers two models, the MAM3184 at 18.4 GB and the MAM3367 at 36.7 GB. These drives use two and four platters respectively, which amounts to approximately 9.2 GB per platter, and here you can see that this is hardly comparable with the latest IDE drives (WD1200JB: 40 GB per platter). The first drive to run at 15,000 rpm was Seagate's Cheetah X15 (read the review). On the one hand, we were a bit disappointed by the fact that it was not able to set new records in data transfer speeds. On the other hand, the seek times of 3.9 ms were unmatched at the time of the review. In the end, this drive offered extremely high application performance, making it suitable for workstations and servers. Fujitsu launched their latest series in order to combine all of the important qualities such as high data transfer rates and quick access times, as well as acceptable temperatures and tolerable noise levels. The result is the MAM series; we received the 18 GB model for review. [/list:u]

the dashes, how long have u left it there? i have experienced that, and it lasted maybe 3-4 mins, then booted up fine and never did that again... have u tried maybe some "older" driver for that card, if u can get them? what are teh rest of the specs on your system?

Plextor - i burn ALOT f cd's, - i make ALOT of copies (copy procted cd's everything) i got the 24x , and it has not let me down at all! (will be gett'n the 40x with enw work computer) Yamaha - i went through 3 10x yamaha's in 1 week last year - they would just suddenly stop working - but i have a friend who has had one for over a year with no problems. P.S - Linuxboy00 - want to maybe put your system specs side by side, or use the [size code on your sig? be aprpeciated

Sorryfor the "kind of" double post - cause i was having a new problem, i started a enw thread, but it seemed to relate to it as well. my bad: on with the problem! Quote: SEE HERE FIRST: http://www.ntcompatible.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=22634&sid=5a8719eaf8e3c65f3d34fefc297f5879 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Or just read this: FIRST run a chkdsk.exe /f on the disk pci.sys is resident on! Usually same disk your OS is on under C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS... this is where MOST drivers are stashed! It may be in fact, corrupted! And, boottime checkdisk on your %WinDir% homedrive usually C:, can fix it! SECOND, check the registry where drivers initialize and be sure its pointing pci.sys to the RIGHT place to load it at OS boottime (I imagine because it deals in interrupts & hardware guidance this driver is NOT PnP and is boottime initialized). EDIT: It's under SYSTEM DEVICES in Device Manager tree! Also, use Computer Management from Control Panel -> Administrative Tools... Go to Device Mgr. & use its menu for VIEW and see the left hand side pane when Hidden Non-PnP drivers tree item appears and check the state of the pci.sys driver (if it appears there, if not see it elsewhere there as it should be listed!)... EDIT PART: IN MY P.S. BELOW - I've got an idea, & that's to use an older pci.sys model driver (or vice-a-versa) if you have to from a build of the OS earlier than the one you have now, same OS, but pre Service Pack build... bit risky, but sometimes it actually fixes things! The way I list/enumerate HOW to go about it though is relatively risk free IF you follow its directions & use Recovery Console (install it from your CD using winnt32.exe /cmdcons). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Did that once on a Cd-Rom issue here & this is a KNOWN fix for some issue with them I can no longer exactly recall... something about aspi stuff iirc (probaby not though) Also with ScSi drivers across platforms by hacking .inf files! (To wit: I had used old Fireport40 ScSi drivers from NT 4.0 on NT 3.51 that said in its documents would not work on NT 3.51!) Well that turned up b.s.! They do for that board, & I had to add them to the .inf for scsi adapters in NT4 as well & loaded them from it when searching new devices... Odd, because the driver models on alot of levels are diff. from NT 3.5x to NT4.0x radically very often on many a level since the OS architecture is more complex on NT4.0 in many ways with a diff. model of Ring Access for instance at the video driver levels. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOW!!! Hey my man, WHY'd you double post this here: http://www.ntcompatible.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=22625&sid=564b97406a64f4295721b38dc837a9dc Too? (On your dual post above: Hey, I get it that mistakes happen, no biggie, I make 'em myself! Especially double posts, I got ridden hard for that & merited it by putting posts in both NT and XP sections here when the topics applied to both a year or so ago) BUT, my man, you're "disrupting the flow" of that other URL I put in here's post bigtime, & we're on a 'beetching session' in that one! LOL, so please, let us go off on that topic dude & CHOP THAT ONE OUT IF YOU WOULD THANKS!!! * ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- APK P.S.=> Try an older build of it (or vice-a-versa)... The way I list/enumerate HOW to go about it though is relatively risk free IF you follow its directions & use Recovery Console (install it from your CD using winnt32.exe /cmdcons). FIRST you install the Recovery Console first & learn what its ENABLE & DISABLE commands do in addition to LISTSVC... Next, you can have both file versions online renaming this pci.sys (failing current one) to pci.old & using an older original pci.sys driver from your CD-Rom for the OS... If old (replacing your current) fails at next bootup, you can also rename this older one & put back in the new one... ENABLE & DISABLE turn on/off drivers and services from the RC too... these are your tools, this is my idea, try it out... cannot hurt & you have outs! ALSO, check for BIOS and driver updates FROM THE MANUFACTURER OF YOUR MOBO & EQUIPMENT, very important! Also, OS Service Packs & patches abound too, be sure you try those as well... apk thnx m8, but 1 problem, i can not get into windows at all to even computer management and stuff. Even if i Press F2 (to run the recovery console in the XP boot of the cd) - i get the error Code: An unepected error occured (536854784) at d:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\arcdisp.c. or Code: An unepected error occured (536854784) at d:\nt\base\boot\setup\arcdisp.c. With windows 2000. Here is what i have done now to try and fix this. (for what i know) 1.Cleared off the 80g HD and made it 1 HUGE parition (as if i just bought it) - tried to run XP booted of the CD to do a fresh format - got the error: Code: An unepected error occured (536854784) at d:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\arcdisp.c. 2.Tried using a Windows 2000 Cd: Code: An unepected error occured (536854784) at d:\nt\base\boot\setup\arcdisp.c. 3.Flashed my Bios as i was getting 6 serial ports on IRQ 4 showing up - do a reboot , it would have one, as it should. 4.Tried the above after flashing my bios - same errors. 5.Took out the hard drive completly and tried to boot of XP and win 2k CD - Same errors as above - So how can it be refering to a D drive - when i got no Hard drive in the computer? And even when i did, it was 1 big partition (should be C) 6.Formated the 80g drive in another computer (with least components) - put the HD back in my VAIO - same pci.sys error message. - i have done this before with an old 95 sysrtem and it worked - formating in one comp, then put the drive in another comp. 7. Copied the pci.sys from a working computer over to the drive of the VAIO - same pci.sys error. [/list:u] ANYWAYS! - while i got some time i will try what u suggested above, just wanted to let yeah know everything i have tried. i am thinking my mobo is messed some how. The other day i took it apart (when this issue started) and the comp had only been on maybe 30 mins just rebooting on and off, and my cpu heat sink was DEUM! hot! - mayeb a short or something am almost ready to get a new mobo - one with ddr or rambus - but REALLY! curious why this is happening.

corrupt desktop theme - can not see anything
Mr.Guvernment replied to Mat1920's topic in Customization & Tweaking
I found my Desktop.ini under C:\WINDOWS C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 -
u need a Hex editor, and open your loginui.exe or what ever file, read through it u can likely find the setting size for it P.S - back up your login file first. i had a guide on how to make your own login screens, will try to find it again. in the mean time take a look on themexp.org for info on it.

Any idea if there's drivers for MS' force feedback joystick?
Mr.Guvernment replied to Jason B's topic in Games
if it is the "serial" verison, XP has defualt ones i think..., how ever there is no "software" for it, so u can not do any cutom settings. MS is only supporting USB devices now for Xp. no more serial joyysticks or any other devices like that. -
U mean microsoft actually made something easy that works..
-
that will work but i have noticed after while, it places it's self back in start up and does it all again!

XP 2000 256DDR went and traded the MX in for a MSI GF3 Ti-200 Pure, got 4326 on 3DMark ;( like your meory and cpu i got a p4 1.8 - but dam sony used pc133 memory, so it killed any scores i got, compared to thos with ddr. as for the card Get the ATI - it is better for OVERALL use. - Nvidia - Gamers card. - my opinion anyways. (also based on past experience)

Quote: Quote: With My Geforce 4600 - when i put on dual display with my T.V - i can not have media player or Power DVD on the TV side playing a movie, while i do something else on my actual monitor. - it just shows as a black screen - never had this issue with ATI - likely just something i am doing wrong. Actually, I think you may be wrong, I think that the tv out is disabled during dvd playback for copyright reasons. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that I had read that somewhere. Can anyone else confirm this?Thanks... I can play a DVD fine if i use JUST my t.v i had heard about that and tested it . but same, just shows a black screen if i try the monitor and the T.V. Makes no sense to me, like if that doesnot work, i will just use my TV and copy it to VHS or what ever that way or use my monitor, and rip it. As for the G4mx - kew kew - goo way to split up $100 VrOoMMMMMMMMMMMM!

Hey all well, my pci.sys problem did not work even after trying a few things a friend said, so now i am trying to repair using the XP CD or even a fresh install. SO! - i put in my Xp cd - boot up form CD, Xp asks if i want to install any 3rd part scsi or raid driver shit F6, then ask to hit F2 to do that other repair option. if i leave it, or hit F2, it then says: Code: An unepected error occured (536854784) atd:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\arcdisp.c. This iS RIGHT at the start of the setup. Now, i formated my D drive, there is NOTHING on it now, as well as my c drive (i put it in another comp to back up all my crap) So my C and D drive are clean, nothing on em. i burned a copy of XP and tried each disk, as well as well as a warez copy, same error. the HD works fine in another computer - as i am now backing up 30g of stuff so i can delete the paritions and start from scratch (is an 80g drive) - hope that will work Just curious if anyone had an idea's why it may be saying this?? Bad mobo? is what i am thinking........ This is my VAIO system below
