MS potentially could do anything to "DO" XP, stop
Mr.Guvernment replied to tylau's topic in Software
Hey all well, my pci.sys problem did not work even after trying a few things a friend said, so now i am trying to repair using the XP CD or even a fresh install. SO! - i put in my Xp cd - boot up form CD, Xp asks if i want to install any 3rd part scsi or raid driver shit F6, then ask to hit F2 to do that other repair option. if i leave it, or hit F2, it then says: Code: An unepected error occured (536854784) atd:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\arcdisp.c. This iS RIGHT at the start of the setup. Now, i formated my D drive, there is NOTHING on it now, as well as my c drive (i put it in another comp to back up all my crap) So my C and D drive are clean, nothing on em. i burned a copy of XP and tried each disk, as well as well as a warez copy, same error. the HD works fine in another computer - as i am now backing up 30g of stuff so i can delete the paritions and start from scratch (is an 80g drive) - hope that will work Just curious if anyone had an idea's why it may be saying this?? Bad mobo? is what i am thinking........ This is my VAIO system below -
well not over clokcing this one, the syste,m is the VAIO and i did virus scans, nadda, trojan scans, nadda now today, when i tried to do a recovery from the XPO cd i got some weird error got to find it, will let yeah know. perhaps my mobo, or HD is mesed up

The Advanced Transfer Cache consists of a 256-bit (32-byte) interface that transfers data on each core clock. As a result, the Intel® Xeon™ processor with 512-KB L2 Cache and Intel® Xeon™ processor with 256-KB L2 Cache can deliver a data transfer rate of core speed multiplied by 32 bytes, reported in GBs. This compares to a transfer rate of 16-GBs on the Intel® Pentium® III processor at 1.0 GHz and contributes to the Intel® Pentium® 4 processor and Intel® Xeon™ processor's ability to keep the high-frequency execution units executing instructions vs. sitting idle. -

Quote: Dont buy VIA if you want stable. i have had a via chipset, 2 diff comps for 3 years, with a sound blaster value and a LIVE in the other comp, and never had a problem. As well 3 of ym uncles computers all used VIA, no problems there either, he also always used creative cards. -
HELP!! Hercules 3D Prophet 8500 128 or GeForce 4 128 ???
Mr.Guvernment replied to DaveGahan's topic in Hardware
Quote: Quote: heya peeps Which one to buy ?? .. a friend of mine is a graphics designer .. so he needs a good card .. the GeForce 4 is 2x the price of the Hercules .. Where can I find a compariosn of features .. or which one shalll he get ?? tnx ur Dave Gefoce 4 all the way lol - any the reason behind that is................... in this case yes, if u are talking about gett'n a G4 4600 ultra card... but then i would say get an ATI 9700 PRO and forget both choices above. Personally, i would rather get an ATI card with 128, then another comapny using ATi chip. What kind of G4 card? 4200, 4400, 4600 ? if u are gonna get a 4600, i say get the ATI 9700 pro instead. Have u looked on each makers site for the specs of each card... -
Quote: And according to #WinXP @efnet Why should Nvidia make drivers for something they did not make? They only bought certain parts of 3dfx, not all of it. I think if you still have a vodoo 2 it is time to save up $60 and get a new video card. ATI or Nvidia.

what a joke!! Code: http://www.despair.com/demotivators/frownonthis.html DALLAS, TX - January 2nd, 2001 - In a move that has millions across the Internet community frowning, Despair, Inc. today announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) had awarded them a registered trademark for the 'frowny' emoticon which serves as their logo. At a press conference, Despair's COO, Dr. E.L.Kersten, announced his intentions to sue "anyone and everyone who uses the so-called 'frowny' emoticon, or our trademarked logo, in their written email correspondence. Ever." Despair filed suit yesterday in a U.S. District Court in Dallas, alleging trademark infringement against over 7 million individual Internet users. The company has requested separate injunctions granted against each. It is believed to be the largest single trademark dispute in history. According to USPTO records, Despair originally filed for the mark in June of 1998, and was awarded a registered trademark for the 'frowny' emoticon logo on May 2nd of this year. Since that time the company has, through the use of the FBI's controversial new "Carnivore" Internet wiretapping system, surreptitiously monitored unencrypted Internet email and compiled a list of over 7,000,000 individuals who have used the ":-(" emoticon in email. Compliance with the injunction will require the defendants to provide to the court and Despair, Inc. a report, in writing under oath, setting forth in detail the manner and form in which the defendant has complied with the injunction to destroy any email in which they have used the offending mark. Despair has also petitioned the court to require defendants to submit a handwritten letter which repeats the phrase ":-( is a registered trademark of Despair, Inc." one-thousand times. A ruling on the petition is expected within a week. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY SPE[censored]TS STUNNED The decision to award Despair, Inc. with a registered trademark for the :-( symbol left many in the field of intellectual property law stunned. Suzanna Larkow, I.P. spe[censored]t of Larkow, Madley & Associates, said of the issuance, "This is a defining moment in the history of intellectual property law. To extend official registration to an emoticon, one who's common usage predated the existence of the trademark holder by several years, defies common sense and establishes a dangerous precedent." Albert Firkus, co-editor of IP Monthly, offered a less dire assessment of the grant, "Whether the issuance is a dangerous one remains to be seen. What is certain, however, is that it appears that someone has finally bested patent 5443036 for most ridiculous intellectual property filing in history." Despair's controversial trademark action is only the latest in an ongoing series of high-profile intellectual property disputes. Amazon.com courted enormous controversy after being awarded patent protection for their "1-Click" ordering system, which allowed registered customers to place orders without having to rekey their credit card information. Critics protested that "1-Click" did not merit patent protection. Most argued that it fails to meet the necessary standard of being "unique, specific and non-obvious" because it relies so heavily on the commonly used (and unpatented) technology of "http cookies". Larkow saw striking parallels in the actions of Amazon and Despair. "They are legally equivalent, unique only insofar as one is a patent and the other, a trademark. HTTP cookies have been commonly used by programmers since Netscape introduced them years ago, yet Amazon has received a patent for one. Emoticons have been in circulation even longer, yet Despair has trademarked one. That Despair was inspired by Amazon's move seems obvious, given that they even included a reference to the date of Amazon's patent in their 2001 Calendar." "AN INNOVATIVE STAND" For his part, E.L. Kersten acknowledged being inspired by Amazon's legal manueverings and had nothing but praise for founder Jeff Bezos at the press conference. "Once again, Jeff has proven to be a true innovator. He's really inspired a new movement in the dotcom universe- frivolous, destructive intellectual property lawsuits. I couldn't be happier to be a part of the revolution." ABOVE: Kersten and one-time enemy Kim Polese treat Jeff and Mackenzie Bezos to dinner to honor Amazon's "innovative stand against innovation". Kersten informed reporters he had personally taken Jeff Bezos and his wife to dinner, to congratulate him on his willingness to "take a innovative stand against innovation", and also to inform him that Bezos was amongst the 7,000,000 who had violated Despair's trademark. According to Kersten, Bezos burst into his "terrifying" trademark guffaw before letting fly a litany of obscenities and storming out of the restaurant. Kersten then intoned gravely, "Let our message to trademark violators be clear. Whether you are a 4th grade nothing using your momma's AOL account, or you are Time Magazine's "Man of the Year", we are going to hunt you down, and when we do, we're really going to give you something to :-(® about." KERSTEN CONSIDERS NAME CHANGE Kersten concluded the already baffling conference with yet another surprise announcement. He is seriously considering changing his name from Edward Lawrence Kersten to simply ":-(". "The idea of having a name which so succinctly symbolizes unhappiness has enormous appeal to me." Kersten said he had made no firm decisions yet but warned reporters not to plan to call him "the C.O.O. formerly known as Kersten" if he decided upon the change. As the conference abruptly ended, Carla Pitt, manager of Despair's Customer Disservice™ Department, was overheard to remark, "Would this finally mean we can finally call him "Colon" to his face?" My thoughts: did the writer of that article have the right to use that? Also, if they used the carnivore program or anything like it, they were invading the personal rights of individuals by reading their email - COUNTER LAW SUIT!!! also is it just the text smiley? or the actual as welll crap? if so, there are SO many variations of that they can not copy right them all, as diff people made each version. so good luck u greedy bastards. The company is probably going under, and they need to sue to get the money. So, i guess i can just have a longed nose smiley :--( also, did they "invent" that? if not the actual creator who ever did, can sue their arses!!! U CAN DO IT! What if i do it in a "different" font? did they copy right what fonts as well? what if i put extra spaces in it? : - ( - it is now NOT the same as what they have, therefor it can not be considered "copying" PLUS! the fact that it was not until RECENT they got the claim for this patent, therefore anyone who used this emoticon PREVIOUS to the copyright being made official can NOT be sued 9to my knowledge).... as they did not know .....

AHHAHAHHAAH! shiet, i did not even ge tthrough the disclaimer!!>.lol just this did not suprise me, since people have been trying to do thisd lately..lol

Hey m8 what Kind of T.V u using anyways? a regular old t.v? Or a nice new HDTV that has like 1900 x resolution, were as old t.v i think have like 380 x something resolution, even if you set your card to like 800 x 600, it is only "emulating" that, and not actually showing it (as my smart electronic friend told me) - although it looks dioff, to me when i set it to 640 x 480, or 800x 600. I used mine the most on a 27' Sony trinitron - and it always looked good, of course that was based on the source of the video although i often ran my ATI tv tuner (cable in) out to my T.V just to compare, no complaints at all With My Geforce 4600 - when i put on dual display with my T.V - i can not have media player or Power DVD on the TV side playing a movie, while i do something else on my actual monitor. - it just shows as a black screen - never had this issue with ATI - likely just something i am doing wrong.
-
ATI is known for it's T.V - out , it is FAR superior then Nvidia - to me <--- have used / owened the All in wonder 32mb / radeon 7000 / radeon 8500DV (64mb ) all in wonder and an G4 4600 ultra i currently have..... ATI cleans Nvidia's clock when it comes to T.V OUT! hands down, no questions asked! and do ALOT of T.V out use both games and vcd / divX the whole nine yards. - Why buy a DVD player when my comp is so close to my t.v anyways Also, what matters is how old your t.v is but either way ATI! also, ATI i am sure uses the Phillips TV Tuner - not sure about the T.V out - shall see what i can find.

Hey all well, if your read some of my other post, my work is buying me a new system, which they want to get from Dell............ and the choice of video cards on Dell's site are (for the system i want) New 64MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce4™ MX Graphics Card with TV-Out New 64MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce4™ Ti 4200 Graphics Card with TV Out and DVI New 128MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce4™ Ti 4600 Graphics Card w/DVI and TV-Out New 128mb DDR ATI Radeon™ 9700 Pro Graphics Card with TV-Out and DVI [/list:u] We are getting dual monitor systems.........and well, the 9700 Pro supports dual monitors (as everyone knows!), same set up as Nvidia - 1 CRT VGA connector, and one DVI connector. So, i choose the ATI card, cause i want it over the 4600 ultra (got one of them at home, want a new toy - and personaly prefer ATI) There is an error with your order. Please scroll down, address the (2) items below and continue. 1. There is a compatibility issue with the Dual Monitor Support you chose. 2. There is a compatibility issue with the Optional Second Monitor you chose. [/list:u] no, there is not a problem!!. Under where u choose the monitors it says: Optional Second Monitor Requires that you make one of the following selections New 64MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce4™ Ti 4200 Graphics Card with TV Out and DVI as your Video Card New 128MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce4™ Ti 4600 Graphics Card w/DVI and TV-Out as your Video Card [/list:u] Dual Monitor Support DVI-VGA Adapter to connect 2 CRT Monitors Requires that you make one of the following selections New 64MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce4™ Ti 4200 Graphics Card with TV Out and DVI as your Video Card New 128MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce4™ Ti 4600 Graphics Card w/DVI and TV-Out as your Video Card [/list:u] So, what is the problem Dell? The ATI card has the same dual support as the Nividia , and yet Dell says u HAVE to get an Nvidia card in order to get a dual monitor system, or even just a DVI connecter. Sorry, but what kind of BS is that. Next i call Dell, which is not even likely to be Dell - Guess what they tell me..... take a WILD guess Sorry, the ATi 9700 Pro does not have dual monitor support i LAUGHED MY ARSE OFF!!! i read ATI the web site to the numb nuts on the other end.... as he sat in silence realizing how retarded his asnwer was. Man, So Conspiracy? I am gonna harrass Dell until i get a respectable answer from them Also, though, if u spec out a Small Buisness"workstation" from dell the video cards used are ATI, Rage™ 128 Ultra, 32MB, VGA nVidia, Quadro2 EX™, 32MB, VGA [add $109] Dell Recommended Special Offer: ATI, Radeon™ VE, 32MB, VGA (dual monitor capable) [add $10] Special Offer: ATI, Radeon™ VE, 32MB, VGA/DVI (dual monitor capable) [add $30] [/list:u] So, what the f**k? and why use A 32mb card on dual support (yeah, it will handle it, but........).... and yet not allow a 128mb version to offer dual support? I think who ever decided what can go with what on Dell's site needs a wake up call! And if Dell does favour Nvidia, whay offer 3 ATi cards for workstations, and one Nvidia? thoughts....................
-
kew kew well, i gues i will have to get the right options when i call to actally get someone who works there..lol - i would assume "sales"... i never really thought about it in terms of "stability" but i figure something like "dual" monitors is not a huge "no-stable" issue. oh well. thnx guys.
-
if u actually get to know the "regulars" that is when u may want to get out more often
-
i format, well, at least one a month, sometimes more, just ebcause i install so many apps to try out and stuff,a nd experiement. i can back up my system in about 20 mins..lol and i make a cd or 2 or 3, most of them have the same things on em, with a few enw files. so i am all set! but yeah, thnx for the heads up, the SECOND my comp doew not feel like it is running right, BAM! back up time! i mean what is a $0.30 CD and 8 mins of my time, as opposed to losing everything i got!
-
Quote: ibm also makes a 15k drive Western digital i think was one of the first 15,000 rpm IDE drives, but it was only availible in 18 and 36g sizes. this was maybe 2 months back... i saw the nice 200g HD out, but they are like $650 canadian.!!

i recenryl was ALWAYS getting B.S.OD's with any 30.* driver on my system, i only got a RIVA TNT2 32mb card here @ work, but i alwasy got the nvd2_dll or something has cause errors i put back in 29.*s, and they work fine , no more B.S.O.D i got the 40.* running @ home with my g4 4600 ultra, and i play gta 3 religiously, but not recently since i formated, I will put it back in and see if i have any issues (See VAIO for home specs) if anything go back to the last version that worked for u.
