    XP memory tweaks

Heyall, got these from an rtf file i foudn on my comp, thought someone may use em. Below are some Windows XP memory tweaks. They are located in the windows registry at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management DisablePagingExecutive - When enabled, this setting will prevent the paging of the Win2k Executive files to the hard drive, causing the OS and most programs to be more responsive. However, it is advised that people should only perform this tweak if they have a significant amount of RAM on their system (more than 128 MB), because this setting does use a substantial portion of your system resources. By default, the value of this key is 0. To enable it, set it to 1. LargeSystemCache - When enabled (the default on Server versions of Windows 2000), this setting tells the OS to devote all but 4 MB of system memory (which is left for disk caching) to the file system cache. The main effect of this is allowing the computer to cache the OS Kernel to memory, making the OS more responsive. The setting is dynamic and if more than 4 MB is needed from the disk cache for some reason, the space will be released to it. By default, 8MB is earmarked for this purpose. This tweak usually makes the OS more responsive. It is a dynamic setting, and the kernel will give up any space deemed necessary for another application (at a performance hit when such changes are needed). As with the previous key, set the value from 0 to 1 to enable. Note that in doing this, you are consuming more of your system RAM than normal. While LargeSystemCache will cut back usage when other apps need more RAM, this process can impede performance in certain intensive situations. According to Microsoft, the "[0] setting is recommended for servers running applications that do their own memory caching, such as Microsoft SQL Server, and for applications that perform best with ample memory, such as Internet Information Services." IOPageLockLimit - This tweak is of questionable value to people that aren't running some kind of server off of their computer, but we will include it anyway. This tweak boosts the Input/Output performance of your computer when it is doing a large amount of file transfers and other similar operations. This tweak won't do much of anything for a system without a significant amount of RAM (if you don't have more than 128 MB, don't even bother), but systems with more than 128 MB of RAM will generally find a performance boost by setting this to between 8 and 16 MB. The default is 0.5 MB, or 512 KB. This setting requires a value in bytes, so multiply the desired number of megabytes * 1024 * 1024. That's X * 1048576 (where X is the number, in megabytes). Test out several settings and keep the one which seems to work best for your system. [/list:u]

Performance degrading over time in GTA 3

Quote: clone cd is the sh1t use it and you'll love it also and the only problem with CloneCD is if u have asmall scratch on your cd, it will read it as a copy protected sector, and still make an image and BAM! there is a useless image As for moutning the game, might as well just install it and get a no cd crack, same idea i guess - except u don't got to make images of all your games. as for that copy protection, of the game degrading over time, they only put that out on 2 or 3 games early this year, the idea i do not think many people wanted to us.

Reboot Problem with Roxio EZCD 5.1 and WinXP

i would say get the 5.3 update, and try nero we just did a mailing list last night, 29,312 email went out, 7840 were returned, all went via Norton 2002 email scanning, and didn't have any resources issue, that is alot of emails! (system is running a p3 933 with 256mb of mem.)
  8. Hello, Recently our company has gotten sick of our email provider constant issues and problems, and i had brought up the idea of running out own email server. We do have someone who is familiar with this, but they are away right now so this is why i am asking around. So some questions. 1. Hard specs for a server - Something that could handle anywhere from 400 to 700+ plus emails a day. (that is likely more then we do) - Inet connection speed? - Hardware specs 2. Software needed - What exactly is needed to get an email server up and running, and will handle about, i would say.. 400 to 700 emails a day? 3. Software availible - Is MS Exchnage server the only option, what else is availible and trust worth? ALL information is appreciated as i wil be doing alot of reasearch on this.

Any Idea how to get GTA 2 working?

Quote: Game Dir is 75.3 MB, 366 files, 13 folders. If I remember right, it was an .exe file, that extracted it all out, and I had to add the registry key. u got a"ripped" version of it if the whole game was onlt 73mb.

Need information on building and running an Email Server

Hey all thnx for the info well, we have a server that we can use, that is on a T3 backbone of an ISP, or connects directly to it, as well the sever is behind 2 cisco routers of our own (i dunno why 2) but yeah, so now it just seems to get the software, Ms Exchange has dropped in prive, or it seems, not very expensive for the Exchange server 2000. The price of the sftware is not too huge of a factor, for everytime our email provider goes down, we lose money. I am thinking around $1,000 US range, possibly more if there is reason to spend more. I took a look @ Merek, looks good, but is the same price as Exchange. This MX, what is that..lol this is what i was wondering. Our email Hosts, have that domain mail.ourcompany.com will they simply reroute things to us? cause if so, then if they have problems, then it will affect us? as that is what we are trying to avoid. We are trying to be basically a self sufficient email server....

Need information on building and running an Email Server

kew kew okay, to my knowledge. - this is all new to me! so soryr if i do not put in too much detail. we need to run an email server, which will allow us to send /receive emails via this server. Basically we want to avoid a 3rd party and do it all ourselves. we would, i assume, need our own POP3 server (incoming / outgoing), as well some way to manage out email address and accounts, be able to add new acocunts and such if needed. basically take full control over our companies email from the company that is hosting them right now. i am not sure what is involed in that exacltly. I have began reading up on some web sites, so i am slowly learning.

  18. When i first got my p4 1.4 back in toronto, with an asus P4B266 board (think it was). i put in the cpu, and said, hell (after i formated) lets try over clocking. i jumped RIGHT up to 1.7 - stock fan, ran it hard for 3 days!!! temperature went up like 5 degree's and everything ran fine!! it was a used chip from a friend, i think he had O/C'd it as well. so may have been why it could take the speed. But also the FSB of a 1.4 was only 100, and i had pc266 memory and mobo, that helped.

Can i ruin my monitor if....

Hey all Well, lets see here i got a nice 19' trinitron monitor, and i recently unchecked the "hide modes that this monitor can not display." i now have my comp @ 1600 x 1200 with a 70mhz refresh, and it seems fine. I am curious, because it would hide the 70mhz if i checked off "hide modes that this monitor can not display." and only allow me 60mhz @ 1600 x 1200. So, what i am asking, is can i ruin my monitor this way? Since my monitor CAN display this mode (as it seems so far), why would it be hidden? Or will my monitor simply not work if it did not actually support that refresh rate "out of synce range" message would pop up right? I have looked around for the actual spec on the monitor but can not find them I just want to be sure that even though i got it at this setting, that down the road the monitor won't just die on me...? The specs of this system are the VAIO down below.

yeppers if u want to overclock, build your own system HP and that puts blocks on to avoid people calling them saying "my computer doesn't work why? I want a new one, because their kid decided to O/C the system (not saying your a kid, just an example) but u can check out http://www.overclockers.com/
