Mr.Guvernment replied to Bursar's topic in Slack Space
well i can say i got a PIII 933 - i know is not 1g, but i got a 1.8 @ home i do virtually the same thing on both computers, and there is a LARGE increase in everything! that is for sure. it would be worth the upgrade for sure if it is an option. P.S - i have ocerclocked this 933 to 1.060 or something close. Oh and both system use PC133 - again - DAM SONY! also @ home i got a g4 4600 128 card. - here at work i got a TNT2 32mb card. -

i would definetly wait till next year for a video card Since the 9700 PRO already has in it's specs a 256mb version! so next year should be interesting! i mean my video card already (g4 4600) aready has more memory then most people computers on this island...lol One day i will build the ULTIMATE system, but u know, a few month later it will be a giant paper weight..lol so almost pointless i likey won't do that until i got my own house with like a T1 or T3 running into it talk about dreaming! -

I think i am pretyt much gett'n a DEUM! good dream list for my new work computer! Dude! your gett'n a dell!..lol - company says they will onyl get dell Specs: $2077.00 Pentium® 4 Processor at 2.40GHz with 533MHz system bus/ 512K L2 Cache SAVE $70! (savings included in price) 512MB PC800 RDRAM Dell® Enhanced Multimedia Keyboard Dual 19 in (17.9 in viewable,.24-25AG) P992 FD Trinitron® Monitor 128MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce4™ Ti 4600 Graphics Card w/DVI and TV-Out FREE Upgrade! 80GB Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive 3.5 in Floppy Drive Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional Logitech® Optical USB Mouse 10/100 PCI Fast Ethernet NIC 56K PCI Telephony Modem Save $30! (Savings included in price) 24x/10x/40x CD-RW Drive Integrated Audio with Soundblaster Pro/16 Compatibility Harman Kardon HK-395 Speakers with Subwoofer Norton AntiViru™ 2002, 12-month subscription upgrade 1 Year Limited Warranty plus 1 Year At-Home Service DVI-VGA Adapter to connect 2 CRT Monitors to Ti4600 or Ti4200 Video Card [/list:u] Other wise for a home system, 48x Burner (think plextor has them now? a new mobo with 2g RAMBUS and a p4 2.4 or higher 21' LCD - that would work well with Games (if they exist) Although i am pretty happy with my current VAIO - except stupid sony used pc133 in it for memory!!! so i may just get a new mobo and rambus or DDR 433 is it now? or DDR500, i dunno what they are @ now. -
^^^^ very very very!! well said i did the 3dmark thing when i first got my g4 4600 card, just to see how it would do, after that i didtched it. My games play fast, and they play well, i know my system runs good, and i also know there are people out there with FAR better systems then mine, and that i got a better system then others - i don't need a program to tell me that. Beasides, 100FPS, the human eye can not even SEE that many frames per second, so what does 2, or 3 more frames do.... not much for me, that i know. oph well, let the brainless people out there who thinkg that a score from a program is the end all of their system keep on beleiving that, it is those people as well who run out and buy ever new video card that comes out as well cause it is somuch faster then the last! and yet there is not alot out there that will even use that power! Example How many people are going out and buying a New mobo with 8x AGP so they can get a new 9700 PRO card? to use the 8x AGP of it. waste! i will wait till the 256mb 9700 PRO comes out if anything before i get a new card for antyhing. although this g4 4600 ultra will likely do me fine for quiet some time!

thnx m8 i just wanted to be better safe then sorry.

i personally hate doing images and such, i dunno, just don't trust em..lol i would rather back up my folders i need. favorites, email etc import / export, what ever and do a fresh install of everything If not, try norton Ghost, dunno how good it is, my work m8 here has used it many times, and there has not been any problem with those systems.

Hey all well, i have read almost all of these post, and some GREAT! info in it. Now, @ my work i will be gett'n a new system Specs will be: Pentium® 4 Processor at 2.40GHz with 533MHz system bus/ 512K L2 Cache 512MB PC800 RDRAM DUAL (2 of them) 19 in (17.9 in viewable,.24-25AG) P992 FD Trinitron® Monitor 128MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce4™ Ti 4600 Graphics Card w/DVI and TV-Out 80GB Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive 3.5 in Floppy Drive Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional Logitech® Optical USB Mouse 10/100 PCI Fast Ethernet NIC 56K PCI Telephony Modem 24x/10x/40x CD-RW Drive Integrated Audio with Soundblaster Pro/16 Compatibility Harman Kardon HK-395 Speakers with Subwoofer DVI-VGA Adapter to connect 2 CRT Monitors to Ti4600 or Ti4200 Video Card [/list:u] Now, lately i have been doing ALOT of gfx work, with PS , 3d studio. , even though i will have 512mb of PC800, and an 80g ATA 100 HD Would it be possibly a good idea to get a separate SCSI controller, and perhaps a small SCSI drive (5g or 10g), and make JUST that my swap / VM disk? and perhaps as well my PS scratch disk??? Would i really benefit alot as opposed to making a 5g partition off of the 80g drive?

New P4T533 and P4 2.53 won't boot....Thanks to my GF3 ti500!
Mr.Guvernment replied to Klark's topic in Hardware
do a freash format? get new bios drivers for the video card - i know G4's have them, not sure if G3's do. and try a new o/s just to see if it works as said above. -
is there a newer version of hotsync out? - the on i got is 4.0.1 my vaio clie works fine under XP with hotsync. try to update it?
-
All new celerons use the 478 pin as the regualr P4's do, but still only run at a 100mhz / fsb i would go with Asus - as my self that is all i have used. i would say : (prices are canadian) Asus P4S533, Socket 478, SiS 645DX / 961B Chipsets, Supports DDR Ram ONLY (ATX) $164.99 (uses the SIS chipset instead of the intel and save u $30 canadian ) My uncle has one of these, he has not had 1 problem! no crashes, nadda! Disabled the onboard sound for his blaster card though.

lol k solution..lol well would be for me get XP format from scratch IN Xp's set up, it will let u set your partitions - that is why i loved 2k / XP no more of the FDISK crap!!!! <---- has 4 partitions on an 80g drive, took literally 20 seconds to set them up. as said above. u can not make partitions if you only have 1 drive, and the O/S is installed in it with windows manager. u would need partition magic or something to make a new partition from the free space. (in both my cases that i tried this, partition magic frooze and i lost over 30g of stuff!!!!!!) and also as said above HP is dumber then a door nob!!!!! as for the thing not taking more then a 700mhz, this is VERY possible, as mother boards do have limits of what they can handle like any other hardware. My old ASUS - P4B4x (i think) would only take a 800 max or 900, one or the other. anyways! Oh HP likley makes it a pain to update anything, cause most people who buy a pre made PC are not to bright (or computer smart) - most of the time - so they don't want u messing around in there and mess things up. - so they make it as hard as possible. - plus the fast they cram everything in tight to save money i guess. <---- will NEVER buy an HP / Comcrap.!!

"system restored after critical error" on Asus P4B
Mr.Guvernment replied to Edguy's topic in Hardware
Quote: yeah i know it doesn't support pc2700 speeds... still i know some people with the exact same mobo.. and same memory module (bought at the same time) and no problems... as for detonators i've tried the 3 latest... and it happens with the ones that's bundled with XP aswell...... thanks for the input... gawd i hate this ;( just curious why u would spend the extra $$ for 2700 when your mobo don't support it? unless u over clock alot or? - but even still... -
Interesting fact many people don't know about tech support
Mr.Guvernment replied to ThC 129's topic in Slack Space
was about to say that "outsourcing" tech support scary thought. i do tech support, but i work for the company. it is a cheap way to do it. but not efficient to get a good customer service rating. in this industry (online gaming) alot of people will go to your site if u got great support - and that we do, we know what our problems are, we don't read some... try this - did that wrok or not, if not click here to try this etc etc like the built in window troubleshoot'n guide. -
Just look at the system requirements..? most all games will say what O/S it works on.

from what i "heard" MS is looking to take the O/S form 2d , and make it more 3d interface - this is why people will begin to need better video cards (64mb or more) as i said i just "heard" any one else hear of this? Quote: From site: Our study gave 12 tasks to 12 subjects using Microsoft Windows Explorer (a 2D interface) and the same 12 tasks to 12 other subjects using ClockWise Win3D (a 3D interface). For four tasks the 2D users had statistically significantly faster performance speeds than the 3D users. No significant differences were found for errors, subjective satisfaction or retention. We propose a predictive model based on clicks to complete tasks. that test is totally irrelavant, unles u have 12 identical people.

Office 97 .pst mail file in Office XP [MS outlook]
Mr.Guvernment replied to Mr-Hipshot's topic in Software
Quote: How do I import that .pst file to outlook XP (2002) that I create in outlook 97 (not express, that outlook that comes with office). I have like 200 mails in that file, but outlook xp is very diffrent from 97, so please help me, if its possible... XP uses Outlook 6.0. - which u can get for any O/S when u get IE 6. -
they are AVI user powerDVD or WINdvd to play them (POwerDVD is better to me) or get the DivX 5.0 player / coder (www.divx.com) or the Krystal 4.33 codecs (ones i use for all AVI's) medi player suxs for any video play back in my opinion.

i think iu can get a used ATI all in wonder Rage 128 card (32mb - 2x agp) for a good price, and it will do what u want or just get a new radeon 7500 for like $70 US, it has t.v out. i would go with ATI though, it does have the best T.V out for any card <--- experience talking.

CableModem users: Tried NIC connection vs. USB & diff?
Mr.Guvernment replied to Immortal's topic in Hardware
Quote: (I was thinking maybe that USB use would limit the available bandwidth, USB 1.0 is not 100mbit or better capable, is it?) * APK A cable modem only connect to your computer @ 10mbits. - or at least Rogers modems did a year ago. -
Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro do not work at all(windows xp)
Mr.Guvernment replied to jghurtado's topic in Hardware
XP only supports the USB version of the sidewinder pro to my knowledge, is your USB? or serial...(game port) they say this when u go to MS sidewinder and look for the software. http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/sidewinder/SWUpdate/default.asp#gameport Windows XP compatibility for SideWinder game port devices This section applies to you if you own one of the following SideWinder game port devices: SideWinder Force Feedback Pro SideWinder Precision Pro SideWinder Force Feedback Wheel (game port version only) SideWinder Game Pad SideWinder 3D Pro The SideWinder software (version 3.02) included with these SideWinder game port devices is designed to work with Microsoft Windows 95 or Windows 98. If you have Windows 2000 or Windows XP, the operating system includes device drivers for these game controllers listed above, so the device will function properly on both Windows 2000 and Windows XP. However, the accompanying SideWinder software (version 3.02 or any previous version) will not function, so you will not be able to create profiles for these devices using the SideWinder software on Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Microsoft is not planning to update the SideWinder software (version 3.02) for game port devices. [/list:u] -
