    Firewall and Anti virus opinions!

It is not BS - i have seen it in front of me. When it is running in the system tray - i do not notice it - BUT from previous versions such as 2001 and on - when you double click on system tray icon to launch the program or start ir from programs - it takes longer to open and appear every frick'n year..lol and this is NOt BS. As for the amount of ram is uses - i will check this out if i install it on a new system - i say it is aresource hog becuase when i go to start it - it makes any other program take longer to open as well - as if it is taking all resources to start it's self up and leaving nothing for anything else - this is not the case as it does not use %100 cpu and rma to get started but it makes other prorgam wait in line until it is done. that is the part that is annoying for me.

    deus ex 2 invisable wars.

Doom III specs are likely going to be hihgly over rated as i saw one some palce the min rquie are still a pIII but that does not mena it will not run very good the main factor will be if you have a COMPLETE DX9 support card - so if you have an FX line card - you are screwed! no matter what and no dirvers from nvidia will save your butt! if u got a new gen ATi - you will be able to play the game fine.

    Dual Monitors

^^^ great did not know that! anyways - as for a pciandAGp card not working - it is always bets to gethe same make of card - as in bioth the same company - do not get one ATia nd one nvidia or matrox - as tihs often cause driver conflicts - so if u ever go one agp and one pcio get the same company of card and if possible - same model

    Win2k pro question

Xp cna be tweaked in about 10 mins to use less blaot and rma then 2k - probelm solved Activation is a breeze and easy if u got an internet connection - pepole make it out to be this long huge hours on hours long process - it is not! Xp is moe stable in many cases and more copatible with hardware and software. XP also has built in crash isolation - the thing that if a progrma crashes it does not kill the O/S - it just kills the app. XP to me is better and fastre and mroe compatible then 2k is. i f u want gmaing go with Xp or geta 180day trial of server 2003 as it is faster then XP is.

    Call of Duty Freezing

igot a radeon9700pro myself anf turned off AA and FSAA because it would randomly freeze and that was it - had to ctrl+alt+del to kill it did the same thing on my ti4600 and ti4200 systems as well - i think they got some issues with this game. - shame, because it looks sweet!

    Halo PC is coming....

Quote: Quote: Halo for PC stinks - the multiplayer stinks as well! HIGHLY over rated game!!!! Even with a radeon 9700PRO / p4 2.4 @ 2.91 / 1g DDR333 AA and FSAA cranked - the game just has no good appeal to me. I agree The graphics is not that good, it hardly runs on GF 4ti 4600, and has a lot of bugs and problems. It does not work with ATI video cards very well. you need something more that ATI R. 9600 to run it properly. Have tried it with GF FX and ATI r. 9800 Pro, it looks exactly the same. Suggestion: DO NOT Blame your Video Card for not running the stupid game!!!! i got a radeon 9700PRO - and it runs crap! even with AA and FSAA turned off and the res @ like 1024 x 768 - it is crap - the graphics are old and designed badly! even my ti4600 overclocked and my ti4200 overclocked dont run it for crap either

    Deus Ex 2 Demo

Quote: Downloaded and tried it out, runs slow on my PC. Intel P4-2.4/800FSB Radeon 8500 1 GB Dual DDR400 The interface is a tad annoying, and there is some missing functionality from the first game, eg. no function key to put away items it is your video card - that card is slowly getting outdated now with the games that are coming out., but yes, this game was also a bad port as most concole games are.

    deus ex 2 invisable wars.

Most console ports are poor - look at Halo - piece of CRAP! a high end system does not help either - it was just poorly done! i was not impressed with the first Deus so i would not upgrade for it - actually i am not likely to upgrade for any 1 game - maybe if 2 or 3 come out then maybe, but otherwise nope.

    Firewall and Anti virus opinions!

Quote: On new stand-alone machines that I build, I usually install a version of Norton Anti-Virus, and a free software firewall, such as Sygate Personal Firewall. I honestly fail to see how the claim that NAV is a "resource hog" argument can hold any water... Newer multi-gigahertz pcs shouldn't have any problems or resource issues whatsoever. On my home machine, a P4, 2.26GHz, I can honestly not notice any performance differences with or without NAV 2002 professional installed. When you cna install norton anti-v 2004 and see how slow it opens, starts anmd just generally runs i got a 2.4 @ 3ghz and 1g pc3200 and it runs slower then it should.

more than 1 GB on a 700mb cd..???

Try Using CloneCD or DiskcJuggler - they can usually by pass this type of copy protection. once i used Adaptec to copy a game that had the "oversize" copy protection on it. http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_oversize.shtml This was used more back in the day of only 650mb cd's being out - but it does apply to today as well

    RAM speeds

Alec - igot bad news for you - if you plan to play DoomII with things cranked - it is a DX9 game - and the FX cards cant handle dx9 for crap! Doom III is opitmised for nvidia - but with the way nvidia has bene using "optimizations" you would have been better with na ATI card in that sae range.. as for ram speeds. u ideally want a 1:1ratio with your CPU FSB speed.\ pc2100 = 266mhz pc2700 = 333mhz pc3200 = 400mhz pc3500 = 433mhz pc3700 = 466mhz pc4000 = 500mhz pc4300 = 533mhz or pc2100 = 266mhz = FSB 133 x 2 pc2700 = 333mhz = FSB 166.5 x 2 pc3200 = 400mhz = FSB 200 x 2 pc3500 = 433mhz = FSB 216.5 x 2 pc3700 = 466mhz = FSB 233 x 2 pc4000 = 500mhz = FSB 250 x 2 pc4300 = 533mhz = FSB 266.5 x 2 or Bandwidth should come from.. what? frequency x bus width? That would be (for PC2100) 266MHz (effexctive frequency, 133x2) x 64-bits (width of data bus) = 17024 Mega bits/s. If you want mega bytes/s, divide by 8, and you get 2128 MB/s. Multiplying by 64 and then dividing by 8 is the same as simply multiplying by 8. [/list:u] So on that note Alec - get a readeon 9800XT 256mb for the same price - or they have been from what i have seen - and you are GARUNTEED to be able to play all DX9 games with out comprimise or worry of NVIDIA emulating Dx9 to 8.1 as they will do becauise the hardware was simply nt made to handle the dx9 api's or what ever - i would think with the amount of reviews your ead, you probably came across this. Also, - all benchs done with doomIII and nvidia cards are all beta's - so the coding will be better and will work just fine on ATI - i mean look at the HL2 benchs marks - and even Aquanox 2. ATI is the winner! Check out the enw Asus 9800 - has higher clock speeds and some great add-ons in it! and also yes - get a 2.4c which more realisticly will over clock to 3ghz - 3.2g easily with all stock and adecent fan. I myself will be buying a dual Opteron system - have you considered the new FX64 chipos? they are giving the 3.2ghz EE a run for their money already!

    Dual Monitors

yes - u can do that - as long as in the bios it is set to boot from AGP (even though it is built in vid) AGP first. as for a good PCi card not really any out - there is some radeon 7000 or 7500 i think u can get in PCI flavour and a couple low end Nvidia cards - personally i would go with the ati as the earlier cards tend to have better image quality over nvidia,
  18. Mr.Guvernment

Default ATi Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb clock speeds?

is it "made byt ati" oir "built by ati" if it is made by ati then that means it is a 3rd prty company using the ATI chip and they can set it at what ever they like. the enw asus ones with 256 are upto 415 and 730 - so u may be able to overclock the card to @ least that.

    Best data cd burning program?

i hate adaptec just sue Nero5 then if 6 takes up resrouces - or just dont install all of 6, just install the basics - that is if you bought the ultra edition. fireburner is good - as i recall it onl runs in system memory and u dont even have to install the program. cdrwin i used to always use for bin/cue files, but now i just use nero for everything.

Discretion discrimination against humans? or any you can think of (make one up if you like)- preferebaly a category that can contain multiple topics, but relates to the same line of topics such as yours.....
