What problems are you having with Half-lIfe ? I had problems before too but was able to solve them recently. Half-life and all mods kicks *** now :-)

Does anyone know a solution for installing Myth II on WIndows XP ? It installs and after it says that NT needs SP3 to run properly and then it just uninstalls part of the just installed files automatically !!! This also happened under windows 2000 but you could install the compatibility updates there to get around it. Anyone have a clue how to keep it installed under XP ?

RC1 to RC2 works flawlessly Clean install is of course always better (no old crap staying behind) but if you have a fully installed working OS and you don't want to go through all the hassle of reinstalling all your soft again go for the upgrade. Once you install the final I strongly suggest a clean install though.

that's exactly what I am doing now :-) I've got this ancient isa 256 colors videocard lying around and just pop that in there :-)))
-
yes it is at the same moment as you mean but it doesn't unfreewe anymore (unless waiting more then 3 hours is an option, haven't tried any longer...yet :-))) I know that it sometimes just takes a few seconds, but in mine and others case it just stays black. Beats me why. Every other os doesn't complain about it in the slightest.

this is strange because I installed WIndows98 SE and windows 2000 and never had any problems or lockups during setup. But every time I installed XP everything goes dead.

nero 5.5.x works like a charm cdrwin 3.8d works great clonecd 3.0.51 works perfectly just for the last two programs you need to install the adaptec aspi drivers ( and if you don't own an adaptec compliant device use forceaspi to fool the aspi drivers into believing you are ) Maybe your cracks are bad ? Mine are official and they work great. I hope none of you are trying to use EZcd with nero together because that has always resulted in crashed with me ( win98 and win2000 ) I can do just about anything I ever wanted to do with these three programs so don't use that EZcd crap

are you guys having problems in windows itself with your mouse movements ? Cause that always worked fine with me. Just HL screwed up until i updated it.

still a interesting question : is it anyhow possible to convert a NTFS to a FAT32 partition without losing the data? My guess is not but if anyone has a way....
-
the chances that Partition magic will run on xp are slim since NTFS was changed a little so Partition magic will not be able to work with them

THIS FILE ONLY VALID ON A CLEAN INSTALL OF XP! First you need to have NEVER installed ANYTHING norton on your system. If you have, go through the registry and delete anything related to symantec and norton, also kill all of the norton files, including \program files\symantec shared and all of that. kill it all. make sure that after you're done hacking and chopping, you RESTART before trying to do this, it depends on there being nothing norton laying around. You also need to be Administrator or have admin privs on your user account for it to work. now the install steps. 1. run this at command prompt: "echo blah > %systemroot%\system32\symevent.sys" (you won't see any output. what this does is create a dummy file so we can get the sevinst.exe file to "upgrade" a copy of SYMEVENT that isn't really there, and thus make norton install cleanly the first time.) 2. get the file from ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/symevnt/sevinst.exe and run it 3. RESTART (very important you restart here) 4. install norton antivirus/utilities/systemworks 2001. This ONLY works on a TOTALLY clean (never installed anything norton at all) copy of WinXP. If it doesn't work for you, you're doing something wrong because I used this exact procedure and my norton systemworks 2001 pro works absolutely fine, Liveupdate and all. (Note that any drive utility in norton that normally worked on NTFS will not work on XP's NTFS because of how NTFS has changed from NTFS 5.0 in Win2k.)

THC129 is right. I have it working perfectly. Get the file and then do some weird dos command (something with blabla in ) I'll see if I can find the exact instructions to setit up.

thanks Dosfreak this looks really interesting

Sorry Nogib, I'm an Nvidia user myself so I hadn't tested them. It was a purely informational post.

don't worry about glide anymore all drivers are right back in there in RC2 :-))
-
great news: one of these three things solved my problem nvidia 12.41 (not alone cause tried that before) HL update 1108 Counterstrike v1.3 Don't ask me where they come from , I know they haven't been officially released but stumbled upon them by accident. Anyway, the mouse movenments are back to normal now. I think it's the HL patch that did the trick Hope everyone has the same good results.
-
I have a GF2 mX myself and have no probs whatsoever Kept all original drivers, except nvidia 12.41 recently upgraded. Maybe some other driver you installed that doesn't cut it ?
-
I am running the HL 1.1.07 version with CS1.1 ( all mods for HL seem to be affected though) Nvidia GF2/MX400 No, I only own logitech mice because they are simply the best around ( personal opinion ) Btw (off topic) XP RC1 also has a problem with MX400 during install, the screen goes totally blank and that's it. Had to replace it with an older card then to get the Xp to install and then put it back in.

the kicking back to the desktop in max payne is an issue caused by the new safedisk version used. Get the 1.01 patch released forr max payne and it should work. It worked for me and effectively that's what the patch was for in the first place btw i ma running it on RC1, runs like a charm
-
sorry, I usually do update the drivers I agree ( included Nvidia drivers in Windows mostly suck bigtime) but since RC 1 had 12.40 drivers in I just let them in, since they seemed to be allright. and I installed RC1 on a fresh formatted partition. I still am running 12.40 as we speak so I haven't upgraded and forgot along the way. I still have the movement problem though, maybe that has something to do with it. I might just try upgrading to 14.20 drivers. Maybe that helps.

as far as I can tell, the logitech mouse family works good in most games but not any half-life variants (movement problems) If you have problems withe the original logitech drivers, just use the winxp defaults, they work great (except HL)
-
what ?? I always play games in opengl (geforce2 card) and play them on RC1. I did not install a new driver and just used the default and opelgl has always worked so I assume it is included afterall.
-
just run RC1, quake 3 runs like a charm actually, this is the first build that plays nearly every game i tried correctly (half-life and related mods excepted because of mouse problems)
-
this is correct. Half-life and counterstrike are just not playable because of the faulty mouse movements. However, I am not sure this is because of the logitech mouse driver. I have also tried the windows default driver and it gives the exact same results. Other games however play smooth as ever, like quake3, UT,... The problem might lie in the half life engine itself Anyways, being a cs player myself, it definetly sucks. If anyone knows a workaround to get the mouse moving smooth again, please let us know.

I had the exact same prob and I figured it must have been Video related so I just took an old isa card lying around and it works perfectly and guess what: i also have a GF2-MX 400. It works with other GF cards though, so I guess it just lacks some sort of support for these cards. ps after the install of the OS I just popped the GF back in and it works like a charm
