Well I installed RC2 today and I was extremely dissapointed to see that the problem concerning Geforce2 MX/400 cards hasn't been resolved yet. Problem: on the start of the install the screen goes black , system freezes and that's it. This problem is not new. I already noticed it on previous builds as well. I know that I am not the only one who is experiencing this problem. On this board alone there are several posts that all describe this. It is very shamefull that M$ didn't bother to at remove such a huge bug out of their software. I mean come on, a bug that keeps you from initialising the setup of a program. How much worse do they come ??? Concidering this is the last public release before the final version I really have my doubt about this OS. Sure it runs like a charm once installed but just try to get it installed without a spare Videocard lying around !!! I've seen dozens of posts about this problem ( not exaggerated ) and what did they do with it... NOTHING. Makes you wonder why they even bother asking beta testers huh ? Since I'm just a preview program user, I ask you guys who actually can contact someone at M$ to look into this. For all you having the same black screen when starting the install: pop out that mx/400 and put something else in it during the install. It'll work. Once the install is finished , just pop it back in and everythings fine again.

I regularly use Pcanywhere to do some remote administration. Although I know that some alternatives will work under XP I am not so sure about Pcanywhere though. I am using v 9.2 (windows 2k compatible version) If anyone has tried it on XP please let me know the results. thanks

Does anyone know what is going on with windows update ? It's been over two weeks now since I last been able to use it. For the record , all my servers and workstations are licenced and have valid keys. Sometimes it hangs on finding updates (winxp mostly), sometimes it finds updates but when I try to click the "I agree" statement it doesn't move. Strange thing is that this happens on every machine, even a fresh installed one. This is very annoying since, besides the security issues this leaves, I use windows update to keep my drivers up to date or for a fresh install to install my drivers. I have heard from other people that they have the same problem but I can't see how it can be that Microsoft keeps this down without a single explanation. What does still seem to work however is the automatic download in winxp of critical updates ( but you can't do anything manually ) and if I use the corporate site I can still download patches but have to do a manual install. If anyone can help on this one, it'd be most appreciated.

Seems that http is down but https is up use https in your url and it still works curious to know what is causing this though

I have a question about this game: I can nowhere find the option to start a server with bots. How do I enable this ? Since it's a Quake3 engine , it's unthinkable they're not in it. And very often when I try to join a server I get: Client_unknown_by_auth does anyone know what this is ??

thanks I think I'll do write them. Maybe they know Strange think is though that the 'router' is on pass through everything outgoing. Of course , since it is Nat incoming ports should be mapped but that should only be the case if I should be running a server and others had to connect to it. Disabling it is no option since my entire network relies on it. BTW: Am I really the only one who has these strange messages ? Oh and sometimes it does work but not often, most servers return the above message.

you are right I am running XP but the firewall was stopped about a second after the install. But You might be right, I have a hardware gateway in my network which gives out dhcp ( NAT ) and acts a bit like a firewall. Can't disable t though. Best I can do is map some ports. Does anyone know which ports are required to play Wolf ?

Hi, I've noticed something weird: I don't know if it's accidental but I've had three occurences of the same problem. If I have installed XP and I change the Ram in that machine the system won't boot anymore and keeps telling me that this and thus driver or dll can't be found. If I plug the original RAM back in everything works fine. Now , the Ram is not malfunctioning, They're just bigger ones and supported types. Speed setting etc is all correct. As I said , I've noticed this three times. Anyone has a idea about this ? especially how it can be avoided ?

I always run XP and Nero and never had a problem XP professional and Nero 5.5.5.1 work fine no aspi drivers are needed for Nero since it has its own included. (default install) ps Realtino : the best way to **** up ANY windows version is to use easy cd creator I don't think I ever came across a worse program than this.

I have a Hauppage WinTV card and it works great (run it under XP) I used the driver from Windows Update and it works nicely. Make sure the region settings are set correctly of the channels, that often causes lots of the problems

simple, right click on the files/directory and click burn to cd I suggest using a third party tool however, incd from Nero is best I think.

You just need the maintenance folder (and the wab file with your adress book in it ) Easiest way to save it is this: just put the storage folder on a different disk (preferably one you are NOT going to format :-) Every time you reinstall just start up OE, go to the store folder path and change it. and please READ the message that appears, if you chould chose NO there, all your mails will be overwritten by a blank store. This way you never forget to backup your mails, becuase this is in fact easily forgotten. If your windows chould crash, you always have your mails save. Just don't forget to backup the wab file. I periodically place it in the same storage folder so I always have a copy when I reinstall.

Hi, I have a little general windows question with a reg file I know how to add entry's in the registry. Is it possible to use such a script to remove entry's ? It's quite annoying to go browsing the entire registry after every reinstall. I would prefer to build me a script ( if possible ) and put every entry that should be removed in there. ps : if you guys do know a way, would it be possible to include an example script , because I really have no clue at this point. Thanks in advance

thanks, I'll have a look at it btw for the intrested: I found a little proggy ( from M$ ) command line registry and it does exactly what the name says, registry control from the command prompt, maybe ideal for scripting a batch file Have still to check it out

try this: Open up the Registry and go to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Explorer/RemoteComputer/NameSpace Under that branch, select the key : {D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF} and delete it. tried it myself and it works ! I heard it doesn't always work on 9x machines, haven't heard any probs with 2k/xp machines yet

just run detonator 4 drivers I have run them for some time and have no problems with any unreal based games ( without having to do all that patching stuff)

Hi, I've got a big question for you guys. I am currently running a Dns server on NT4 server with around 1000 domains. My current secdns won't be functional for much longer. So I am installing a Windows 2000 server as my SEcdns. My question is, is there any way I can use my configuration from my primary dns server to create the domains on my secdns server because if I have to add them all manually, I'll be at it for weeks. I can't use the config from my current secdns because it was external hosting AND on Unix. If anyone knows of a procedure or a tool that can do this, please let me know ( or if someone has ever done something like this sort of automatically ) Thanks in advance

yes that is correct. I have approximately 1000 DIFFERENT primary zones, which I should be able to create (in order to get them sync-ed) on my secdns. Thanks for the effort

correct me if I am wrong but I thought that in order to get all the individual domains records replicated, I had to have the zone itself installed on the secdns ( for each individual -1000- zone ). Once a zone is configged on the secdns , the replication shouldn't be any problem anymore, it's just getting all the zones on there without having to do it manually. Or am I losing track here ??

Does anyone know how to get Visual studio 6 working under XP ? I know beta 2 of visual studio.net works but for some compatibility issues I need V6 on my system. It hangs during setup. Anyone successfully installed it ?

it's definately faster then win2k (considerably sometimes) and as for win9x ... I'd rather lose a few fps whilst everything keeps in one piece then to ever go through that BOS hell again. Stability costs a little it seems...
