Is anyone using XP with an HP P1100 printer? The compatibility wizard says that it is not compatible with XP. But I know it works with 2000 and I thought that if it worked in 2000 it would work in XP. Could I use the same 2000 drivers and make it work. If anyone has any ideas please send them on through. Thanks

I took a look at the HP website and found that they do support my printer with XP drivers. I guess that I shouldnt believe everything my friends say, or microsoft.

So when are we going to hear about ATI's driver suport. That is all that I am waiting on. If it is good then I will go with it, if not, Geforce3 time.

How many people out there think that IE 6 is the most worthless browser microsoft has put out? I think that it is the slowest thing that I have ever used. I hate it!!! I have DSL and pages open up like in using dial-up. Opera is now my browser of choise.

It seems as if I have a pron;em now doesn't it. Can anyone give me some advise as to how to make it fast?

Am i missing something here? If it is suposedly faster why then is mine running so slow? Does anyone running it under XP think that it is fast also? Do I have to enable fast speed or something? (That was a joke)

I never had any problems with IE 5. I liked it personally but now that I am using XP I hate IE!!! It is very slow, and its not my connection. Others in my network are using Opera and they say that it burns like a bat out of hell.

I was just complaining more about the loss of fps. It doesnt really make that much difference but I am still not happy with them. But I seem to be a minority in this case.

I am running XP and installed the 21.81 drivers. I have seen a very slight increease in 3DMark2001, about 150 points. But I have also noticed a decrease in FPS in Counter Strike. Before I was getting 70 FPS and now I am getting 60 FPS. So far I am not really happy with these. On another point. I am not really happy with XP either. When I had 2k installed with the 12.41 drivers I got a score of 3150 on 3DMark2001, when I switched over to XP it droped to around 2900. I thought that XP was suposed to be better for that kind of applications.

All of my mp3 files have the defalt windows icon (dont know what it is called but it is white with the windows flag on it). I tried reinstalling winamp to see if that helped. Winamp is my defalt mp3 player if that also helps. Anyone have any suggestions?

Sorry I should have mentioned that I did that already. This problem wasnt present when I had ME. Then I did a fresh install to 2000. This was about a year ago. I have done about 4 fresh installs after that and each time the mp3 icon is the same. (just a note, I didn't reinstal because of this problem) I have tried associating mp3's with media player and then back again to winamp to see if that makes any diff. I upgraded my winamp but that still didn't work. I have tried uninstalling and then reinstalling but that doesn't work either. I guess that I will just have to live with this problem.

Every couple of minutes I get adds poping up through IE. I thought that it was some kind of spyware so I ran Ad-aware 5.5 to try and get rid of them. This didn't work. I am still getting adds every couple of minutes. Sometimes there is only one add some times up to 5. Has anyone else experienced these pop-up adds and if you did were you able to get rid of them?

I am on DSL, I will disable it and see if they still pop-up. As for trying to see what it is through processes, I tried that. When they pop-up it only shows IE at about 40%. These adds are for legit things like credit cards and web sites and shopping places. I thought that it was SongSpy that was causing the pop-ups. So i uninstalled it, it seemed to work but then last night I got one add. It has definately slowed down. That is really all the info I have about this thing.

I dont even have to have IE up and it will still bring up adds. I could be just using photoshop or any other application and they will pop-up. I dont even have to be using any applications and they will still pop-up.

My internet seems to be slow after I let my computer idle for a couple of hours. It take about 5 times as long to load a page and I get alot more page not able to be displayed errors. Has anyone ever heard anything like this or experienced this before. It is not all that important but it is very anoying. I guess that I should tell you that I have DSL, if that even matters.

I had the same problem with my gateway 500. It would always screw up during the install. I called gateway to see what kind of board I had and to ask if it was compatible with Win2k. They told me that everything should work and that my bios version was Win2k compatible. Well after days of yelling and screaming, I decided to flash the newest Bios that gateway had. Well wouldn't you know it, worked like a charm. I hope that helps you in anyway. Please report back as to what you find.

I read the article posted on the main page of Nt COmpatible about customizing Windows 2000. I was really intrigued about changing the Windows 2000 shell. The article didn't give any instructions as to how this was done, and the new shell that I downloaded looks to have instructions for Win98. My problem is that I cant seem to find the right ".ini" file to do this. System.ini does not contain the text that it says it should. ""Open C:\Windows\System.ini with NotePad or any other text editor You should see the following lines of text at the beginning of the file: [boot] (a bunch of stuff you shouldn't care about) shell=Explorer.exe Change the line shell=Explorer.exe to shell=C:\LiteStep\LiteStep.exe"" If anyone could give some help as to what ".ini" file contains this that would be great. Also does anyone have any experience in doing this. Any tips would be much appreciated.

I am using Lightstep right now. I cant seems to figure ti out though. What sre these switches that you ar talking about? I can get my programs to be in any of the menues this thing has. Would you happen to know of a place i can read upon how to control this thing? Right now i have to run everythig from either the run command or goin through explorer and finding the ".exe" file. Other that that this thing is awsome! I am usining iBDE final version. It has this window in the lower right hand corner that has 4 quadrants in it that correspond to diferent quadrants of your screen. So it is like your screen ir really four times bigger. You can switch between quadrants and pu aplications in and out of different quadrants just by draging them in the little display. I really recomend it if you are lookin gfor something different.

Hey thanks alot DosFreak, the tip worked. That was the most usefull piece of advice i have goten form this place. Ohh and by the way, this interface is really cool. It is nothing like Win2k. It is going to take some getting use to but it will be awsome when I get the hang of it. Thanks for the info again.

You should check out www.overclockers.com for more info on that. I know that they have a forum just like this one, im sure that someone there can give you some good advise.
