The Intel D815EEA automatically deactivates the onboard video when you plug in an AGP video card. So no, sadly, that is not the problem. Win2K does recognize that an Elsa Gladiac 920 is indeed stuk in the AGP slot, but somehwere there is corrupt info in an INF or Reg file that is causing my problem. At least that is what I feel may be wrong. And if there was a way to refresh the INF folder to whatever pointers there might be in the registry, then that might solve my problem. Of course, it could be that my AGP slot is bad? I'll have to try and see if I have any other brand AGP card around. But so far, if its an NVidia card, its a no go.
-
When I went to the built-in Intel video drivers, they installed without a problem! But ONLY the NVidia, and I mean ANY NVidia drivers will not install. So there MUST be something somewhere that is messing with the NV install . . . reg, inf, ini . . . .
-
Did delete all NV related INF files - no joy. But I wonder if some of those cryptic {52525-8jfjwe093jpowerf-05234-jt} entries in the registry points to specific INF files, and thus need to delete those two so as to regen the INF entries? As I said, in WIN9X there were 2 files that you could delete to have the hardware manager rescan itself. I wonder if that is in Win2K as well??? And NOW, . . . since I had this problem, my Intel D815EEA mobo keeps asking to press F1 to continue booting! Never had that before, and can not find where it is set in the BIOS. I even found a new BIOS update from P10 to P11, installed it, but still the F1 resume message! UGH!!!!!!!
-
Damn it all! Nothing is working right now. Took me awhile to get my internet back up too! At least the onboard video works, but nothing I try will get ANY NVidia card to work again. Anybody have an idea? What would happen if I reinstall Win2K on my system? Will it keep all my drivers and settings, or will it think its a new install and wipe everytying out?
-
LUCKILY I have a genuine Intel D815EEA motherboard. And it just so happens to have an i82815 onboard video chip. I installed the drivers, removed the Elsa, and I am back to 1280X1025 16bit color! So, . . . . . I am going to try a few more things now, perhaps somehow one of the NVidia INF files got tweaked and keeps screwing up the install??????
-
Did that many times too. And it selects the Elsa Gladiac 920, and will install from the CD, and still give the same error. Something got hosed somewhere. The only thing that I maybe did wrong, was that with the Leadtech GF2 GTS card in, I had the Det 21.81 drivers installed, and did not remove them. From what happened in Win9X in the past, as long as it was another NVidia card, it worked fine - just added the new properties that were now available. Guess Win2K is still not enough like 9X I guess. So somewhere, either the INF for VGA is corrupt (and I can NOT find it as a selection in video drivers like you can in Win9X???), or somewhere an INF file is bad, or a pointer in the registry is bad???
-
I tried that numerous times. And when I go to "have disk", even though I have selected a number of different drivers I have in folders, when the "choose driver" dialog box opens up, it does not show any driver at all. It is blank. I do remember, that in Win9X there were 2 files that you had to delete to get Win to recycle itself to rescan the INF files. Is there something like that in Win2000? Cause it keeps saying its in VGA Compatible mode, and every install fails with the same message - the data is invalid. Or, . . . perhaps the registry got tweaked?
-
If it does try to install the Elsa drivers from the CD, it keeps wanting to install the NT40 drivers! And I even reinstalled SP2 to make sure. Seeing as I had to put my cat to sleep yesterday, after 15 years together, this is EXTREMELY frustrating, when life is bleak enough already

Over on the Operation Flashpoint newsgroup, we started talking about games we liked. Well, quite a few seems to have liked this very old game, which I TOO had a blast with it years ago. I was now able to come by it (TOTAL OF ONLY 256K for an awesome game!!!), but it won't play in Win2k. Anyone got any ideas what I can try? Or, . . . as it is only 256k, maybe I just run it off a DOS boot disk and a floppy? Hmmm, or boot from a ZIP disk?????
-
Hmmm, the game does look nice, and has at least the element of the "Carrier", . . . but I do remember there was another game released awhile ago that WAS very much like Carrier Command, and was also multi-player. I just can not remember it. I did have it at least around 1997, but everything I had got stolen in Oct 97, so no longer have it. But from what my foggy mind remembers, it was a fun game! Do you maybe remember what it was?
-
I DID get it running! Just had to make a good ol' fashioned DOS boot disk. And the game, the ENTIRE game which is just 2 files that total near 300K, fit on that same disk with plenty of room for save games. Just need to make sure to have a DOS mouse driver as well. Do you want a copy of it? And what is that Hostile Waters all about?
-
The only thing I see is that the file emu10k1f.sys is dated newer and is 4k larger. What does it really do? All the rest of the fiels are the same as the 3300a. And Phillip, could you please, if possible, add a comment about these new drivers as to what has changed? That way, before we try them, we could make a somewhat educated guess whether we need, or want to install them. Thanks!

Guess MS needs it Christmas bonus money again. At least this time, instead of a slew of paper tigers, it is based more on experience than "Internet found" answers. But then again, the Microsquash beancounters are doing their blackmail - must have at least 2 MCSE's on site, or you loose your "GOLD" status. Too bad. It would be worth it IF they made a product that worked more than it crashes. Guess that is the trick - make it just good enough that the world will want it. Make it a monopoly so that the world will HAVE to have it as it will be the only one with all the add-on products. And make it shoddy enough that they all have to keep spending to upgrade it to the newest bloatware. Sorry, but I have been around enough of these paper tigers. Some make the systems that I keep having to repair

Ok, I can understand all the speed freaks into benchmarks. But I wish someone would also start telling me what the differences are between the driver sets. WHAT is the 12 series, what is different with the 14 series, and then why suddenly new 8 series appear? Which are best for DX8? Which are best for D3D? I don't really play much in OGL, as I got into Rainbow6 Urban Ops, and now the new Operation Flashpoint - all D3D games. Currently, as I have a Leadtech board (2-GTS), I found they had 12.60 based drivers and am using those for Win2K. But it seems my desktop and applications are very slow. I am using an Intel PIII 933 on a genuine Intel D815EEA mobo.

Been awhile since I last wanted to update my video drivers, so I am way behind on the versions. I have a GF2 GTS card and currently am using the 12.41. I see we now have a new 8.04, a 12.9X and even a 14.20! I always see on the main page here, the blurb about a new driver and the link to download it - but I NEVER see a link to the explanation of what the new drivers do or fix, nor reviews as to if they are good or not. So, can anyone fill me in on these, or have a link I can go to research these? Thanks
-
I am sure you were going to anyway, hahahahahah. But I still would like to know what changes there are between the 7, 8, 12, and 14 series drivers. Some have the Anti-Aliasing, some have different options in their menu, some might be optimized for this or that - I would like to know please.
-
Hmmm, thanks Eddie. But when you tested, you did the 14.10. There it shows the 8.04 to be best, but now the 14.40 just showed up. Also, on that link, one said that the 8.XX series was DX7 optimized? Aren't we on DX8 now? So wouldn't we want that more? Or did you mistype that DosFreak? And I'd really like to find a link that explains what has changed in each driver, so I can tell what I am getting into, as well as choose what I will get into I remember the old versions, but now I am a bit confused. We had the 3.X, the 5.X, and the 7.X - then suddenly the 1X.XX and now the 8.X and the 12.XX and 14.XX. Could any of you kindly refresh me with what the laterst 12, 8, and 14's are all about? Thanks

Ok, somewhat solved my Nero problem, but now its WNASPI32.DL
Mike Zamarocy posted a topic in Software
Ok, I sort of fixed my buffer under-runs in Nero. But I am having a strange problem with NERO and my CD ROM drives. If I use the 4.60 version of wnaspi32.dll (44K) that was already on my system, the CD ROMs will work, but Nero won't, nor will the new Nero CD Speed tool which gives a "wnaspi32.dll not loaded" error message. Now, if I copy the Nero wnaspi32.dll into the winnt/system32 directory (over the old one), then Nero works, so does the CD Speed tool, but then my CD ROM's won't work on data CD's, untill I copy the old one back. WEIRD! I even went and did the SP2 service pack again (had uninstalled it awhile back and went to SP1), but that didn't fix it either. Now I also seem to remember, but can't find it, that there were some files in SP2 that do NOT copy over during the patch? If this is so, which files were they again? And how to manualy install them. Thanks! -

THANKS Wolf! That did the trick! And I then went and did further searching on Adaptec's website, and this is what they had to say. Hmmm, they do NOT support the ASPI layer in ME or 2000! ******************** The older style ASPI layers are not native under Windows ME and Windows 2000 and Adaptec Inc. does not provide technical support for adding an ASPI layer to these OS's at this time. The Adaptec SCSI Controllers do not require ASPI, to operate under Windows ME and Windows 2000. However! Some older software programs, that were not written for these specific OS's "might" still request an ASPI layer be installed. This may require an upgrade of the software or application you are using from the manufacturer that is Windows ME and Windows 2000 compliant, and connects to the SCSI interface layer and does not require the installation of an ASPI layer (Advance SCSI Program Interface). The operating system manufacturer Microsoft has chosen not to use an ASPI layer under Windows ME and Windows 2000. This is a specification of the OS. The problem is that "Windows ME" and "Windows 2000" are not made to use the older style ASPI layer and undesirable results could happen if the older style ASPI layer is installed on your machine. Because of these major changes Adaptec Inc. does not support installing any current versions of ASPI at this point under the OS's specified. -

Mike Zamarocy replied to Mike Zamarocy's topic in Software
The Nero version of wnaspi32.dll is 2.0.1.28, and resides in Nero's install directory and is 169K large. The other one is only 44K small, and is version 4.6.0.1021, as well as says its ASPI for Win32 (95/NT) DLL for an Adaptec ASPI layer. But I do not have any other ASPI layer on my system that I know of, though I am using ATAPI hard drives mixed with 4 SCSI hard drives and 2 CD ROM drives (Plextor). -
I was able to burn some CD's with no problems a few weeks ago with one of the older versions of Nero, but tonight I tried to burn some with the newer 5.5.2.4 and I made 2 coasters because of under-runs! My source drive is a Plextor UltraPlex 32, and my CDR is a Plextor PleXWriter 12/4/32 - both not cheap peices of junk.

Mike Zamarocy posted a topic in Hardware
I see there are now 2 new NV Dte drivers, a WHQL 12.41 and a new 7 series (7.91). Has anyone tried these, and what are the differences? Heck, I had thought with all the 12's being released lately, that teh 7's were now defunct. -
Now I don't know if it matters or not - or if there is a difference, but I am using that SP2 that was available just before MS had theirs on their website, its the one that was mentioned here earlier. But I will say this! Rogue Spear is nearly unplayable online! CS is laggy as hell. My newsgroups are slow, or even seem to go into a sleep mode. I tried to play Ground Control, and have their latest patch - yet when I just go to set the options and select "accept", my PC reboots every time! Response time for programs to run seem to be sloooow as hell too! And my Outlook 2K is slow to load and get messages. It seems like my system is pretty much going to hell. Anyone got suggestions? Well, I hate to say it, but maybe its time to do a complete fresh restart and format/install? But damn, all the work I put into mine as it is now, UGH! To start all over from scratch again is NOT what I want to do. And geez, Win2K should NEVER be like 95/98/ME where it IS common to have to restart fresh every so many months.

I see EAW and PE listed as working, but I can't even get them to install. Does anyone have a work-around for this, please? And I can install M1TP2, but soon as I go to enter in a battle, I am kicked to the desktop.
