Well, I just did the uninstall of SP2 back to SP1, and so far my system seems to be running back to normal. It was late, and I got pissed off that eveytime I tried to play R6:RS online, all sorts of weird stuff would happen - reboots, dropping to desktop, etc . . . . And I don't have a weird system either - Intel mobo (D815EEA) & cpu (PIII 933), and know every nut and bolt in what I built - nothing fancy, weird, or no-name brand. Of course it MIGHT have been that few day PRE-release SP2 that was news on here??? I think it was mentioned that it might not fully have been what MS was going to release 2 days later . . . .
-
I found tht the video was better using the 7.58 or higher NV drivers. But I SITLL have that damn problem with the sounds (music mainly) stuttering and locking up the game for a few moments - and almost always at the wrong time, during combat!
-
I don't play those games, but I TOO have had nothing but strange problems since I did the SP2! My Outlook 2000 is as slow as snail mail now. Also, Outlook Express seems to take forever to come up, as well as download messages. And even my whole system's response time seems slower and quite erratic. In Rainbow6 Rogue Spear, every so often when I click on a selelction (like load plans for a mission), my system reboots on its own - never did that before SP2. Just curious - has anyone attempted to UNINSTALL SP2 yet? Or is that just as much a fiasco as trying to revert back to IE5.5 from that damn IE6?
-
To be honest though, . . . . . IF, and that is a VERY BIG IF Unix/Linux were to get some sort of WIN emulator with DX in it to handle the games - I'd dump MS in an instant!!!!!!!!! And this is an UNBIASED opinion, for I don't have any Unix/Linux software, nor have I ever used it.

DUH! Don't you guys read the front pages here? Products of the LA public schools??? 8) Right on the main page here, there is a link to get the newer 2.5ci SP2 aware update. -
Linux Zealots = sons of OS/2 Zealots Boy, I remember the day when I worked part-time at Egghead Software (when they had REAL stores). On that night when Win 95 was released at Midnight, this fat slob in a torn & smelly T-shirt pushed his way into the store. He imediately went to the OS/2 pile and grabbed a box and held it into the air. He bagan to shout and preach like a hellfire and brimstone Baptist on a soapbox. The only people who noticed him, were the ones who he was in their way to get a box of W95

Here is his message. PLEASE! Tino is a GREAT GUY! So be on the lookout anywhere you can! This is in the LA area, but who knows where it could be by now! As the E30 M3's are getting riced out now a days, I just wonder!!!!!!!! *************** Hello everyone, Late last night my race car was stolen right from inside my trailer which was parked in front of my house. The thieves broke into the trailer by busting the entire locking mechanism off of the rear fold down door. They simply cut the straps (the car was tied down) and took the car (Probably rolled it down the street and towed it away). I know this is a long shot but if anyone sees this car or any parts for sale from what sounds could be from this car, please let me know. It took 2 years to build and I only attended a couple of races with it. It's hard to believe that so many years of blood, sweat and $$$ could be stolen right out from underneath you in a minute. Here are the details of the car: 1988 E30 M3 VIN: WBSAK0306J2196258 #95 or #75 on Hood/Doors Red Exterior/Interior 1 Sparco Evo Racing Seat - Black Full Weld In Cage (Painted Red) 16" BBS RK Wheels w/Kumhos Custom Exhaust System w/DTM Tips Split Second Intake System FULLY MODIFIED S14 RACING MOTOR. All the BMW CCA Club Racing required Banners and decals. Tirerack Banners on the front and rear windshield. The interior had been FULLY gutted: No rear bulkhead in the passenger compartment. The doors were gutted out. The only things in place were a seat, wheel and dashboard. Hood is pinned down and the center hood pin is off center. Rear Shock Towers have been boxed in for custom cage mounting points. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Please spread the word. Thank you, Tino Saloomen tino@saloomen.net PS - Now I wish I had Lo-Jack or something... -

NP- and the car was FOUND!!!!!!! **************** Hello Everyone, I know it's late but I just got a phone call from the SDPD notifying me that the car has been recovered and is in a tow yard in San Diego. I haven't seen the car yet but will update you with my findings as I get them. The officer that called said the car looked fine except for it looked like it was stripped... (LOL!!!, I did that!!!). The car is going to be shipped back (Compliments of AAA ) tomorrow to Los Angeles. All I know is that the car was indeed placed on a flatbed tow truck and was on it's way to Mexico. The story I got was that the thieves were stopped by the Border Patrol near the US Customs crossing while attempting to drive the tow truck with my car on it into Mexico. Since my car didn't have any plates on it, the Officer asked them for some sort of registration. Since they couldn't provide the paperwork, the VIN was run. The car came up as stolen and the driver and passengers (3 total) were arrested and are in custody. The reason why my car didn't have plates was simply because I had a little custom plate made for it which read "If you can read this, I'm having a bad day!". I thought this was the dumbest thing I could have done (removing the California Plate that is..) but it turned out to save my car! Go figure... Thanks to everyone for their support during this hard time for me. Words cannot express how touched I was by everyone's friendship and support. All I can say is that I am truly thankful I have such great friends. The tons of emails and phone calls that I received were incredible. Each one contained encouraging words which helped me get through this tough time. I can honestly say that I nearly fainted when I looked into an empty trailer in the morning... Ever been sucker punched in the gut?? Please don't let this happen to you. Take all the necessary precautions to protect your investment NOW. I'm thinking LoJack isn't a bad idea! Thank you again for helping me get the word out and for your honest concern. Maybe, but I need to get the word out ASAP to the most possible readers in order to give the best chance of finding it. I DO APOLOGIZE if it offends anyone, but you'd do the same if it was your buddy, and was such an awesome car to boot! At least I did put the proverbial "OT" in the subject line tho ") -
Geez, we just got the 12.00 ones, now a .10? But there are no release notes with it saying what has changed - anyone have ideas?
-
But I want more - a strategy game that involves thinking and team-work. And I have found all that and more in Rogue Spear. And there is only one other game that nearly made me fall out of my chair or dump a load from fright, or my heart nearly stops - RS when I turn a corner and a Tango slams into me, or Alien vs Predator with the lights out late at night! AvP is so damn frightening, that I don't even play it anymore. Nothing like one of those damn bugs dropping down on you from a dark ceiling! Which makes me wonder, . . . . should AvP also be added to the list?

European Air War, M1 Tank Platoon II, and Panzer Elite???

I haven't tried EAW in awhile, but as the new QfixApps ver2 is out (search the archives here, someone posted a link in answer to my question) and got M1TP2 to work, its possible that it will let EAW also. As a matter of fact, I think the guy posted that it even let him play EAW online too! Here it is: http://www.ntcompatible.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/001887.html -
In the early 56K days, I tested a LOT of modems, and even helped a few others to discover the broken Data Pump in the Rockwell chipped modems that prevented upgrades to the new V90 (Hayes was the biggest offender and LIAR!!!!). And though I was an avid Supra supporter for many many years (since their old 1200 baud), I have to say this. IF you still want to stay on a modem, the USR/3COM modems are the strongest and the best to get you as good a speed as possible limited by your phone lines. BUT!!! Why stay on an antiquated modem line? Try to go with DSL!!! My phone lines are junk, so I was never able to get more than 38K on a modem, and until recently could not get DSL. But when I went to www.dslreports.com - I found a DSL provider, Speakeasy, that could at least give me a 144K iDSL line! Now I may not get as good as others with real DSL, but 144K is waaaaaay better than 38K.

No computer games??? There WAS Pong But seriously - I was much slimer when I didn't get into computers and computer games. It meant that I had to do things such as have a life, go out dancing, play baseball, have human contact, etc etc etc . . . . And, <GASP>, the way Windoze 3.x or 9.x craps out so much at work, it really was much simpler to do things with pen and paper

Let me say, I am 46. I am not married, and scared to even try to be a parent. But IF I did, I would teach them just as my parents taught me - right from wrong. Now I would not beat them like I was, but I sure feel that the "Mr Cleaver" from Leave it to Beaver method would work just fine! But you also HAVE to understand that today is a lot different from my parent's days. Back then, the woman DID stay home and be a mother. Today, if both parents are not out working, you are in skid row damn near. But what IS happening is some are too damn greedy for the material things, so work too much and don't spend enough time at home. I am not trying to defend them, but seriously, times have changed - and I HATE IT! As for video games, BULLSHIT! I grew up playing army, cowboys, cops & robbers, etc - and had a zillion toy guns (many I still have at the parent's house and are now collectables and worth some money!!! ). So many in fact, that my brother and I used to arm the whole neighborhood. But not ONE of us ever turned out to be a killer, sniper, or murderer. I even played paintball for over 15 years! It is HOW the kids are raised that makes all the difference, not the toys or games. A lot of this **** did NOT happen back in my days! Sure, we had the ocasional "greaser" or biker - but they only fought with knives or fists! Most just wanted to play baseball or look at playboys! Oh, and don't get me started on job stress and workplace violence either . . . . . if we got rid of EXEMPT status (salary), then companies would NOT be able to lay off hundreds, and make the few do their work - which means long hours for no extra pay! That too keeps a lot of parents away from home! And a major reason wh many don;t even have a job! Damn I wish we could roll back to the 50's or 60's!!!!!!!!!

ARGH!!!!!!! Ok guys, which it the best flavor this time around? And where was it that I read a nice explanation of what benefits each major revision of the drivers have again? I mean as in What do the 5x, 6x, 7x, and 1x (10, 11, 12) have special about them. I thought the 7.x were DX8 drivers, but in that article I am refering to, it was said teh 1x drivers were THE DX8 drivers?????
-
Action does not always = MINDLESS ;( At least not all the time. But then, with that lawsuit from Columbine, perhaps it IS BEST that CS and RS distance itself from the mindless frag games!
-
CS and RS are still online shooter games - just with MORE thought and strategy in them than just a frag fest. As for T2 - I played the original when it came out a long time ago, and that left a bad taste in my mouth. It was more of an FFA than a TEAM game. CS is still sort of an FFA as well, cause there are a lot of players only going for the kill stats than winning the game. I've seen T's drop the bomb to go off and frag CT's. And I've seen CT's totally ignore the hostages to go frag. But at least in Rogue Spear CO-OP games, I see REAL team work in action nearly every game! And it seems to have one of the BEST AI's in any game yet! Those damn SOB's come at you from all over - even coming up from behind you in an area you THOUGHT you had just cleared!
-
Now make a poll for best ONLINE game: Delta Force (all flavors) Counterstrike Team Fortress (I know it still part of HL, bit is way different than CS) Rogue Spear Quake UT Mechwarrior 4 etc . . . . .
-
My vote would ONLY be for either Counterstrike or Rogue Spear. Though I would consider Mechwarrior 4 if it was listed. But just wait till Flashpoint is out!
-
Darn, all the drivers with all sorts of different version numbers, its really hard to understand which is which now. The 6x seris is fast and notably stable, the 7x is supposedly DX8 oriented, and now the 1x series which I don't quite understand what they are - some seem to think they are made as MS native drivers, thus the different style version numbers. I have been using the WHQL approved 7.58 drivers and like them a lot. But I am curious about the latest ver 12.00 ones. Anyone try them? I have not seen any benchmarks, nor any pros/cons as to the 7x's vs the 1x's. Anyone got suggestions? 8)
-
Oh joy, now we have the new 7.76 DET drivers! Argh! So what is the benefit of these now? And where was it that I read a nice explanation of what benefits each major revision of the drivers have again? I mean as in What do the 5x, 6x, 7x, and 1x (10, 11, 12) have special about them.
