Can you dual-boot with win2000 already installed?
Mike Zamarocy replied to kuchitree's topic in Games
That is, unless you installed Win2000 as an NTFS partition. -
What is the best program for burning music cds for Win2k?
Mike Zamarocy replied to pr-man's topic in Software
Ok, that is all fine and dandy for BURNING a CD - but what about the RW discs??? DirectCD was the program Adaptec had for that. Will Nero do RW discs too???? -
Well, in Mechwarrior 4, the screen flashing is gone, but now a new problem has cropped up. In Everquest, when I get to the game screen my mouse pointer from my windows desktop (the car key from Windows on the Road Theme) is imprinted there. The normal Everquest pointer is there and useable, but the desktop one is motionless and just sitting there. Even after rebooting and restarting the game, the car key is still there in the same place! Weird.

What about the new WHQL 6.54 ones???

It is not overclockable, but it is stable, and meets ALL standards, cause it is made by the one who designs the standards - the Intle D815EEA motherboard! Totally stable! Just no frills, except it has a built-in Intel Pro 100 NIC, and Video/Sound onboard which I disable anyway. but again, it is VERY stable, and meets/exceeds all standards. The only problems I have had is with software and drivers for SB Live and NV GTS.

How to get NFS 5: Porsche Unleased to work with Win 2000 pro
Mike Zamarocy replied to superman322's topic in Games
Porsche Unleased is a cool game, but you should also take a look at the old Sports Car GT game too! And now its in the bargain bins for about $9. Then go to this website and check out all the links to add more tracks and tons of cars! http://www.speedsims.com/ -
Start Win2k & NT alot smoother... apk
Mike Zamarocy replied to Ge0ph's topic in Customization & Tweaking
There is one time that the VB scripts might not be as useful as Alec's old style batch file - remember a lot of these damn viruses use VBS! And one tip I read somewhere was to disable all VB script hosts on your system. Worked nice on my old 98/ME machine. And then those who might be leary of any VBS scripts might not want it that way either - just food for thought . . . . -
Event Viewer Reporting Strange Errors
Mike Zamarocy replied to Ivedog's topic in Customization & Tweaking
That tip helped get rid of all my errors too! Turns out ever since I installed Win2000, I was getting these errors. But 2 days ago when I shut off all the perf counters, my event viewer is now clean! Hooray! -
Error in Registry for Virtual Devices and VDD?
Mike Zamarocy posted a topic in Customization & Tweaking
I am not too sure of what happened, but lately I get this error: System\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDivers. VDD. Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid. I looked, and there is nothing in there but the DEFAULT setting that is normally in most settings. This error pops up sometimes when I run "COMMAND" or try to install some software (not all, just some). -
Error in Registry for Virtual Devices and VDD?

But I still haven't figured out why your Win2000 Tools won't install. I'd really like to try them out, specially the Reg one. -

Error in Registry for Virtual Devices and VDD?
Mike Zamarocy replied to Mike Zamarocy's topic in Customization & Tweaking
My Autoexec and Config look to be alright. And all those files are on my system and are the correct versions. I also ran SFC to see if there were any corrupt or mad files - all seems ok. The reg hacks you said to try are not on my system - I have a desktop, so there is no LanManServer, but a Desktop version. But it has no NullSessionPipes string in it. Remember, the error message keeps saying the "Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid". Here is what it says in there: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers] And there is nothing else in it other than the DEFAULT REG_SZ. So I am inclined to think something is missing there. Could you export yours and paste it here so I can compare? The only thing that COULD have been a problem in the Autoexec.NT would be a line added for KALI. But when I renamed it and used the original, I still got the same errors. I really think that just this part of the registry got tweaked in some way. -
Error in Registry for Virtual Devices and VDD?
Mike Zamarocy replied to Mike Zamarocy's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Well, the problem happens every time I run the DOS window for sure. But the other times happen when I try to instal some software - but they are Win 2000 programs. When I do get the message though, I can select CLOSE or IGNORE. If I select IGNORE, everything goes along as if nothing happened and I can continue on. Oh, and I am trying to install your Win2000 TOOLS program, and it keeps erroring out at the APKFileFinder.EXE - so I can not install it. -
any way to get ata 100 suport in w2k ?
Mike Zamarocy replied to DEVIL_DK's topic in Customization & Tweaking
I have an Intel D815EEA motherboard that has onboard ATA100. It came with a CD with ver 6.0 of Intel's ATA100 drivers, and they install ok. BUT! I had gotten a message from someone on the newsgroups that said these are not any better than the regular ATA66 drivers. He suggested, and sent me the WSP2 hotfix for this. I tried it and it installed. But without a benchmark, I can not really say if there is any difference, so I went back to the Intel drivers. ALSO of note - the WSP2 Hotfix for the ATA100 has a slight bug in it. Supposedly, even though you ARE running at DMA ATA100, it will show up at PIO mode. But, seeing as I also have an Adaptec 2940US and a 10K RPM WD SCSI2 disk, I think I might use GHOST to reimage it with my WIN2K partition and see if that will make things any snappier. -
As per numerous suggestions, I tried the 6.47 drivers and they fixed all my problems! YEAH!!!!
-
Well, so far as I can see, . . . they didn't add any new "FEATURES" to my system, yet
-
When I install any driver other than Leadtech's (which latest is 6.66, on CD is 6.27), the ADVANCED and HOT options no longer work. I really like these, so would like to keep them usable. I tried to replace the NV CPL and DESK DLL files, but that didn't help. Nor reinstalling WinFox. So is there any tweak I need to do that I haven't yet?

Leadtech WinFox - how to keep it with NV 6.47 drivers?

I have to say, though it would be a ***** to play the game in this way, IT LOOKS AWESOME!! Imagine, after a few Guiness's, go play HL in this mode! WHOA!!!! -
Ok, its pretty much agreed upon that the SB Live! has some problems. And I have read that the EAX in W2K is not hardware accelerated either. So what IS the 3D card to get now? The TB Santa Cruz? The Diamond MX400?????? Which one really works well in W2K, with the damn ACPI IRQ sharing, and has hardware accelerated 3D sound???
-
Where did you get the Intelipoint software for Win2K??? I can not seem to find them for my IPE mouse.
-
Ok then, just what soundcard is the better 3D one in W2K?
Mike Zamarocy replied to Mike Zamarocy's topic in Games
Hmmm, good point, and thanks for telling me! I never knew that one existed. But I tried Everquest with it on, and it STILL stutters, and even locks up during (VERY DANGEROUS!!!!) combat. I can't hit my other attack buttons and am getting the S*** kicked out of me as the game world continues on even if my screen doesn't. Haven't tried MW4 yet with the WDM drivers, but will later. But unlike others, Baldur's Gate (1) has no problems, and Delta Force Land Warrior has no probs. Panzer Elite works as fine as could be expected, but I still can not get EAW to work for more than 10 minutes. Just curious though too . . . . how can I tell if the EAX is running through hardware (now with the WDM), or is still in software mode??? -
Ok, I loaded the new Thrustmaster ver 2.29 Afterburner Drivers (TMapper) and now seem to have 2 new problems???? the TSR loads and stays loaded. And Mechwarrior 4 actually uses it too! Even has a popup message saying the profile is being applied! COOL! But, . . . 1) when I try to test it under Gaming Controllers in Win2K, it pops up with an error message saying some COMPONENTS are missing?????? So I can not use that CPL - but it still works in the games so might not be TOO big a deal??? 2) after I loaded these, Mechwarrior 4 in multiplayer now keeps giving me a BSOD after a half hour playing! Something about an IRQ, and then begins a memory dump. Now, . . . COULD this be the Afterburner and the TMapper software or a USB IRQ??? Or could this now be a DX8.0a problem and involving the damn SB Live! card? As the BSOD mentions an IRQ involved - it makes me suspect the damn ACPI and how Win2K sets ALL devices to the SAME IRQ! And as MW4 hesitates at times, and the Start Windows sound hesistates on bootup every so often, it does make me wonder???? For perhaps it is having a conflict with something else using the same IRQ.

Mike Zamarocy replied to Mike Zamarocy's topic in Games
Ok, I just tried the BETA WDM drivers. Everquest still stutters, but not as much as before. Perhaps I just MIGHT try that Phillips Accoustic Edge soon! On paper, it sounds mighty impressive! -
Just to let you know, you are NOT alone with the stuttering! My SB Live! is giving me major headaches! But I just downloaded the BETA WDM drivers and will give them a spin in just a few.
