European Air War, M1 Tank Platoon II, and Panzer Elite???
Wolf87a replied to Mike Zamarocy's topic in Games
Just reinstalled it. No problem at all. Click install, choose full and it does. Then start 3D-Control Centre and adjust graphic properties (1920x1200). It plays fine with 6.62 Detonators drivers on Kenwood 72X CD with firmware update for UDMA 2. So your problem may be a bad media disk but more probably the CD Rom itself or DMA may not work. It may also explain slowdowns and lockups of MW4. European Air War installation just fails. -
Mechwarrior 4 pausing a lot, sound probs in Everquest

6.62 drivers received WQHL certification so they work well with DirectX 8 but without any optimized code. -
If you have two 128 Megs Ram chips, one of them is defective, for example its gold overlay is flaked. Remove it and install with the other chip; if you boot fine that will establish the source of this problem. If you have one 256 Megs chip, try to borrow another memory stick. Memory verification software is also available: http://www.tweakfiles.com/memory/

That means a bad memory chip. Windows 98 will run and not notice a bad memory stick but Windows 2000 will either not install completely or never boot later.

A few ideas just in case it might help. Remove any special cursor skin then check if your joystick is centered and if it controls movement in the game. Upgrade the mouse control software since both Mouseware and Intellipoint were often quite buggy. A similar mouse problem existed for Rogue Spear and patches were made to solve it. Check the Logitech site.

This looks like a CD reading problem. Your CD reader is either too fast or with too much cache memory allocated so it gives false readings due to the fact that the CD media itself may be of low quality or badly printed. Try to slow down CD performance and lower memory allocation. It just might remove the stuttering. In Windows 98 there was a CD performance Tab in System properties. I do not know if such easy controls exist in windows 2000 outside the registry; Control Panel, Administrative tools, Computer management, Storage does not offer this. Some CD tools may be found here including the Aspi software upgrade: http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_utils.shtml

Run it in OpenGL mode with DirectX 8. If you fear losing compatibility for previoux games by relinquishing DirectX 7, check the uninstallers first. Install the detailed compressed textures made for Metal and run UT both in very high resolution & at great speed with the special driver found here: http://www.lokigames.com/~vogel/UT/

European Air War, M1 Tank Platoon II, and Panzer Elite???

Panzer Elite plays perfectly with DirectX 8. It does with Detonator 3 drivers 6.47. -
Try and modify your graphic card advanced settings. In Direct3D, typically Fog table emulation sould be enabled to avoid random lock ups while alternate depth buffering must be disabled (Shogun Total War; Battle Isle The Andosia War). In OpenGL, block mode is necessary for some games (Cataclysm; Half-life). Check the Geforce Faq and install the file iopagelock.reg: http://www.geforcefaq.com/

Mechwarrior 4 needs a big paging file. Go to Control Panel, System, System Properties, Advanced, Performance Options, Virtual Memory, Change tab and choose minimum of at least 200 and maximum of at most 500. Over 500, the computer also goes through a lot of slowdowns. Detonator 3 drivers release 6.47 or 6.62 should help, with DirectX 8. Other Microsoft games (Starlancer) were unplayable before the advent of directX 8.
