there are a couple of developers out there who did do usb for nt. they make u pay for the program. (kiss mine) it's been so long that i dont remember who they were thats one of the reasons i switched to w2k

go to your environment variables and add a "path=" use all the paths that u want to run from the run command. then when u go to run dont type the path just type the command

the business dope on the 3dfx/nvidia thing is this. nvidia bought the rights to the 3dfx chip technology (dont know if they will use it at all... thats a secret). this is doing 2 things for them. they get royalties from other companies (diamond to name 1)to use the 3dfx name, and it eliminates 1 major competitor. last i heard, very few 3dfx engineers are working at nvidia and they will not directly support 3dfx cards. depending on what they paid for it , sounds like a good business move

did u remove the hardware AND the drivers reboot reinstall

there are 2 different things working here. transfer speeds and access time. they are very different. rpm's usually = better access time but the transfer rate is bottlenecked by the interface controller. ata/100 does burst transfer rate for buffer to host at 100mb/s (mode 5 ultra ata) utlra 2 scsi does the same at 80. there are 3 different transfers working here. platters to buffer, buffer to host, host to processor/memory. the total thruput from platter to processor is the real key here. all in all in straight speed the ultra/100 is faster than a uw2 scsi, the neet thing about scsi is the bidirectional multi channel configuration. basically a scsi system can do a bunch more stuff at the same time with little to no performance decrease. for instance playing with my system i can burn a cd (cd-rom to cdrw or hd to cdrw) while doing hd benchmarks. without creating the dreaded coaster, and with a very small performance hit. u can kinda simulate the same thing with a "raid" setup for dma equipment.

had the same problem, but never could figure out what it was. neither could the microsoft support team. i figured it was either dx8 or sp1 that messed things up. my solution sucked but it was effective. i reinstalled w2k. (thank god for cd burners) i installed sp1 but not dx8. the joystick works perfectly... someday i'll install dx8 and see what happens

i like the asus, but it has a pretty cheesy hsf. a friend got a leadtek and is very happy with it. he sent me his old geforce ddr 256, which i promptly put in place of my voodoo3500. dood! my q2 timedemo went from 125 to 190. u might be able to pick up an old geforce 1 card for dirt cheap and tide yourself over till the geforce 2 becomes reasonable. and to think of all that time spent at sub 100fps...

i just had that problem with a new build. are u getting an error that says "unable to init uninstall"? if it's the newer sb, try using the liveware 5.0 drivers and forget about the liveware 3.0 that solved the problem

i like eddie's response. i like oc'ing... it's fun. just put a big damned hsf on everything and turn it up. i got so many fans in this thing that i have tie it down to keep it from flying away. i even got a mini hsf on the adaptec scsi chip too much fun man, and it's cheaper than buying another processor (piii700@900)

not a problem stud i'm too old to flame for no reason. now that is taken care of i pose this question. i play a limited amount of games (q2,q3, combat flight sim, need for speed3 and 5 ) they all work perfectly on w2k... much better than win98. what popular games/apps dont work on w2k?

brian frank what a di**head i was only kidding, did u read that line "hehehehe"... it's called laughter. read the whole text exactly as written, very slowly, many times before your feeble mind starts wandering. punk (darwin is right)

whats the error nero is giving u? could it be a joliet name issue?
-
no way dood. u are already running nt so your system is up to par. many of the higher end cad systems (pro/e, sdrc) are starting to support directx, which we all know isnt supported by nt. switching to w2k should give u a big performance improvement. as far as games and stuff, more games are being written w2k compatible. therre are very few games that i would want to play that i cant on this system. and microsoft keeps up[censored] compatibility.

i'm using liveware 3 and having no problems is your surround sound 2 different plugs (front channel rear channel) or is it just 1 plug. the "surround" setting is for digital speakers, use the 4 speaker. if u only have 1 plug use the 2 speaker.
