    Dial-up Network Connections

Not quite sure, maybe you need to get the dial up connection to run as a service not as an application. Maybe one of the more techie guys will know how to do this? ------------------ There was an error processing this directive.

    Services in W2K

Hi there, I was just wondering what services can safely be shut down assuming I am a home user with a dial up internet connection. I was particularly thinking of Plug N Play service, can I shut this down between hardware changes? ------------------ There was an error processing this directive.

Is this a Mobo or OS problem

Yeah, in 2000 you need to go to USB Root Hub properties and deselect error checking, then go into BIOS and select that "KT7_CLK" setting and change it to default, not optimised. I did this, and the system is mucho nice-o. ------------------ There was an error processing this directive.

    Hidden & Dangerous in W2K - WTF?

Hey wait, I've though of something else. Is there any way for me to up permissions a notch further from Power User so it's even closer to Administrator? Just in the File access permissions etc to see if the CD drive suddenly becomes visible? ------------------ There was an error processing this directive.

    Hidden & Dangerous in W2K - WTF?

What could a Power User account be doing to prevent it even seeing the CD Drive? ------------------ There was an error processing this directive.

    Hidden & Dangerous in W2K - WTF?

Here's the mighty problem. Hidden and Dangerous works in W2K if you run it while logged in as Administrator, but if you try to run it as anyone else, regardless of user access level, it stops, saying it can't find the CD. This is a load of crap, as the option to play the game came from the Autorun feature of the CD. I'm thinking maybe somewhere deep inside W2K there is a file permissions problem, but can't find anything. Anyone have any ideas? ------------------ There was an error processing this directive.

Is this a Mobo or OS problem

I am having the wierdest problem ever on my Win2K machine. For some wierd reason whenever I use my USB modem to connect to the net, the machine goes all juddery and slow (think 8Mb P60 trying very hard to run Office 97). I had no problems with a standard modem, so we know it is USB related. The funny thing is though that although the same problem exists in WinMe (dual booting for a while before it was booted off the disk), it is nowhere near as pronounced. I have as per usual updated every driver etc, been to Windows Update and got everything but to no avail. I've listed my specs below, if anyone has an idea, please help. AMD T-Bird 1GHz ABIT KT7 Mobo 384Mb PC133 30Gb Seagate Barracuda ATA66 DVD, CD-RW, CD 32MB AGP GEFORCE 256 DDR SB PCI 64 Modem is Conexant HCF V.90 USB FCC ID : H52PT-3050 ------------------ There was an error processing this directive.
