If you havent gotten this patch for AMD cpus under Win2k: http://www.amd.com/products/cpg/athlon-duron/amd_win2k_patch.html It prevents crashing and might help you out in XP too.

Ahh...I see. That makes sense.

This will never end... ;(

Thats what they seemed to be pointing at at the ITT I was looking at. Anyway, that was pretty expensive, but they were more concerned about getting you in the right college for you, even if you didnt go to ITT. They are definitely in it for your benefits and not theirs.

Id like an explantion for this crap: START-UP AND POWER The system must not display any BIOS text during start-up and must meet these start-up times: Cold boot to desktop in 30 seconds or less. Resume from hibernate in 20 seconds or less. Resume from standby in 5 seconds or less. A sleep button on the keyboard suspends the PC. An off button on the front of the PC that hibernates the PC. A power-off button on the back of the PC. Laptop battery life must support playing a feature-length DVD or three hours of typical application use. No BIOS text...okay. ;(

Of course, it also depends on the sofware youve got too as far as compatablity...as far as I can tell anything that will run under 98 and NT 4 has run under Win2k. I dont expect the Whistler (Windows XP) to be flawless right now, being in its beta stage, but I do expect it to be perfect if not near-perfect. ;( The only possible issue would be with that activation code crap, but are already out if Im not mistaken. Also, I know you probably dont want to do this, but set the P3 back to 600MHz and see if you experience the same problem.

BTW, Im going for my AS in PC Repair/Networking Specialty and am almost half-way through.

I was looking at ITT, but it was a total of $27,000 8) UP FRONT! 8) And other colleges wont accept them, not to say ITT is a bad college, but that's a lot for a 2-year degree. I'll will probably pay $6,000 for classes AND books by the time Im done at the college Im going too for virtually the same thing. Also, one size does not fit all either. But, a two year tech degree is probably the wisest choice out there. Where Im going and the same is true with ITT, they dont give you a bunch of BS you dont need---they give you the minimal gen ed classes possible and get right to the dirty work. I was terribly disappointed in the Radeon's performance--so when I tried it out I pretty much went with the GF2 MX card. As for the sound card, Ive got a Guillemot Maxi Sound Fortissimo and it works great right off the bad with NO DRIVERS!! All the complaints about SB Live! cards makes me really glad I didnt get one.

I guess this is my worthless hobby. ;( Looks like Im gonna give Eddie a run for his money on posts.

heh

It apparently does nothing that I can tell... probably one of those scare tactics used to stop you from messing around.
-
Yup 1.04 drivers and you could try DirectX 8, but some people have had problems with DX 8, so proceed at your own risk. I havent had problems. *Edit* Also, 3dfx cards will work better under OpenGL or Glide instead of D3D--at least for me they did. [This message has been edited by Brian Frank (edited 08 April 2001).]

I just sit around doing nothing. If anybody actually cares. ;(

Well, we cant all have the same mobo. Oh well, I got it to 1016MHz with just a little voltage bump, any way I try to go past that is just not stable enough and will eventually crash. Mmmmmm...gigahertz! Im trying to get my pc to stay above 5500 in 3dmark 2000...almost there.
-
Well, if worst comes to worst, there will be for XP activation and crap. It seems that this speculation is the biggest issue of XP...even if Microsoft does goof up with it so this is a problem just get a . There's already one out for the Beta releases.
-
Im not sure how many people here know the mobo youve got, so please list your specs. [This message has been edited by Brian Frank (edited 08 April 2001).]

Uhh, I bought the game and it is sweeeeeeeeeeet! Even on the easiest setting the number of enemies in it is astounding---like they pour in like a river. Its just an insane amount of enemies. If you like big weapons and a constant stream of enemies and s hooting anything that moves, you will have one hell of a time. [This message has been edited by Brian Frank (edited 07 April 2001).]
