Try checking your hard drive cables to make sure they are intact. You could have a bad board too. About the power supply: Is it loud? Has the Fan stopped working? If its still running, thats probably not the problem. Im thinking you could easily have a bad board. Reformatting and reinstalling is always the wise thing to do when going to a new motherboard. Windows is very touchy about that--especially Win2k--which is very sensative to hardware problems. If the cpu is running at 1.6 volts thats probably a major problem right there. The T-Birds all run at a 1.7 volt vcore. If your are overclocking the processor already, UNclock it back to the default. Also, Ive had experience with a board (not an Iwill) that refused to install Windows 98, just because it SAID there were bad sectors. What it turned out to be was the settings in BIOS for the harddrive werent set properly. Once those were set, everything ran fine. Hope that helps. If it doesnt, the board is probably bad.

Well, look at it this way: if the processor doesnt work, you can either take it back or buy a motherboard to support it. You wont know until you try.

Try formatting the FAT32 drive to NTFS and see if that works. I dont have a clue why that wouldnt work, because Win2k has support to read and write FAT32. Plus you can install Win2k on FAT32 disks. If that doesnt work, see if the IDE cable is good and plugged in at both ends. Youve got a motherboard that Im not familiar with. Also, what OS are you using? Win2k or NT?

Im so glad we'll be mature. But, you gotta admit it was funny sometimes.

Everyone with the alternative OS heres a post for Linux. Ive heard a few speak up about it, but there has to be more than a handful. Steve Ballmer declared Linux threat numero uno, so anyone in doubt dont pass off Linux like its nothing. Just some general questions to start off: How's KDE2 running? What's the difference between Debian and RedHat Package Manager (RPM)? Best for gaming? Easiest to network? Improvements that should be had for Linux? If you think Linux sucks, or are uneducated about it, please dont say anything. My personal beliefs about Linux are that it is here to stay, has things that Windows shouldve had from the beginning, and is becoming a viable alternative to Windows for some people. Some of my concerns are the knowledge you have to have to get stuff working, a clear how to on recompiling the kernel, active driver support right out of the box and drivers along with that on the cd, ease of networking (Lets face it, Win2k is a breeze to get going), and will it ever get to be preinstalled on home computers from companies like Dell, Compaq,HP, or Gateway?

Some stuff I remember about Mandrake 7.2 in KDE: the Konquer web browser was very good, unlike Netscape. But Netscape was the only one I ever used, because I screwed up my internet connection. Konquerer is best if you like IE. I'll stick with Mandrake unless Red Hat is just as easy. Im not into line commands, so what, we're not all programmers here.

Yeah, hows it run. And when are we gonna see SP2? Is MS having problems or what?

Highest FSB speed Ive gotten to run flawlessly is 114MHz on the KT133 based Asus A7V. Tried increasing the voltage as high as 1.65 volts, but it will still hose up sometime. Would it be worth it to go up another .05 volts or is it time to give that up. I havent had any success with the lead pencil trick. Is it just across the L1 bridges or both the L1 AND the L2 bridges? Ive look at article on Anandtech and Toms Hardware, and Im still trying to figure this out.

8) That thing's huge! 8)

Inferno2000, whats that ColdForge thing? Sounds like something really cool-literally, but what is it?

Well, in theory, becuase Linux is a variation of Unix, you could download IE4 for Unix and install that...dont know if that would work though, havent tried it.

Well the best music of course is metal...i.e. Kittie, Korn, Godsmack,Limp Bizkit--but just to laugh at Fred Durst. Pop muzak for the most part is of good singers with really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really bad songs.

ATI needs some serious work on their drivers. I wouldve gotten the Raedon 32 DDR, but the drivers were so horrible, I said screw that and got a GF2 MX. nVidia has awesome drivers, even ones that arent official yet.

Skip MP7, go to Winamp. MP7 has caused some problems with Win2k...cant remember what though.

8) It seem that Gigabyte boards have problems with the K6 line, video cards, and the ALi chipset. That GA-5AX is the first one of those boards that someone hasnt complained about...yet. I hope Gigabyte doesnt make boards that have problems like that. Also, problems seem to be related to not enough voltage to the AGP slot, and Ive seen crappy performance from a PCI card too. It could be that the Viper is just not going to work. I looked at that particular board the GA-5AA,and being its based on the ALi chipset and has AGP, I'll bet thats a good part of your problem right there. So far the only complaints with gigabyte boards seem to be older ones with AGP and ALi chipsets combined with the K6 cpu's. If you plan on running Win2k on computers like that, it would be better to spend money on a whole new fleet of computers. If you truly intend to run Win2k on your home computer, buy a new one. Those ALi/Gigabyte boards arent worth fooling with. Give it to someone else who will surf the net with it. [This message has been edited by Brian Frank (edited 23 March 2001).]

Hmm...is just the INTEL BX board or another brand WITH the BX chipset on it? If you have the Intel SE440BX, it could pose a problem. If its the SE440BX-2, you have a much better chance of it going through. You may have to get a slocket adapter to use a P3, but that's not to say you will. If its an Intel board, check their website about the board. If its not Intels BX board, find out who made it. Look between the PCI slots to find the manufactuer of the board, just to be sure who made it. BTW its PGA and FC-PGA (Pin Grid Array and FlipChip-PinGridArray). Its looking for an INF file. Check the radio button that says something like Show All Types of Hardware. Then you should be able to tell it exactly where you unpacked it too. You DID unpack the driver...

Oh wow! Yeah, I know where all that is. I live just a couple blocks north of Lake Ave. on N. Anthony. They're literally raising the roof on the Coliseum.

Check Toms Hardware Guide (www.tomshardware.com) and look for an article about video editing from Matrox. It also mentions something about a MPEG-4 decoding. Check that out. Other than that I havent heard.

Topped another page! Woohoo!

BTW, MaxG, ZoneAlarm free doesnt have that feature, but I'll double check to see if does.

BTW, anyone want to kill Fred Durst or Bill Clinton? You can in UT with some skins I found. What a stress relief.

Okay, I have two computers and there are some files I'd like to keep synced without having to manually update them. One runs Win2k solely, and my other one currently runs Win2k and ME. I just want the sync to be going on under just Win2k, because ME isnt really that important. Can I do this without buying 3rd party software? If so, how?
