I'm too lazy to try the suggestion. I also don't care

Quote: Firstly Win2k outperforms WinXP in every way (gaming, applications etc) and because of this it has a whole lot less undesirable features that ppl dont need. WinXP is faster than 2k for me, and for what I do most of (gaming) that's a good thing. I'll agree with you on the undesirable features there. There are a number of things I don't care for with XP and disable them first thing after the install.

Could be something with their hardware. I for one have tested FAT32 and later went on to NTFS. I'd love to say I could tell you a difference, but I can't, at least not in real life.

Yeah...thanks alot Al Gore. BTW, the link worked fine for me and it's been at least a week since I had a reboot.

Quote: Brian Frank...there is a program out there that allows you to use NTFS in Windows 9x...I don't remember the name, but I'm pretty sure you can't install 9x on an NTFS, but you can convert to NTFS after you install it. It's confusing, I will find the link sometime. Yeah, that's what people have told me, and I can assure you that that's not what the guy was making it at. He threatened that he'd do it at school and then "school" me. ;( If you want, I can get the link (one Zone 365 is back up). -
Competition is normally good, but I dunno in this case...two screwballs fighting for the spot as the NTCompatible village idiot:p Pretty shady characters if ya ask me:D

clutch said it all. Keep the retail HSF, but if you want something better, check out that link at Dan's Data. It's arguably the best out there.

I was wondering what happend to you, Alec. Nice car. At least you make sure your sig isn't regularly longer than your average post. 2nd, let's play nice boys.

I moderate a different message board (we're down right now due to the current host crapping out for large periods of time), and this guy insists that you can install Windows 98 on an NTFS partition. I asked him how he could manage that, and he flamed me for it acting like it was common knowledge. His answer: use the Win2k CD to format the drive to NTFS and then can the Win2k install and setup 98 as usual. I'm no MCSE, but that was the biggest load of BS I've heard. For the record, the guy hates my guts and goes for personal attacks when he rears his ugly head on the board (not much, thankfully). That's still so funny how insistant he was on the 98 NTFS thing---even though an MCSE told him it wasn't possible. One experience at a local shop that really pissed me off was when I went to seek advice on what to do to get a problematic motherboard working. The response the tech I had was something like this: "I don't really like them and I'm pretty sure the motherboard is defective" I figured I'd missed something, but he just spoke his mind about that brand of motherboard instead of giving me a useful response. I've also been told that Windows ME is a good OS...but I'd rather leave that thread in the closet after the hell I went through there -
While I don't like Tom's site that much anymore, the end of the article was excellent. Quote: Intel or AMD - who cares?! Nvidia or ATI - who cares?! Windows or Linux - who cares?! It's about the experience. The technology. It's the journey, not the destination. There is no end point. No perfect buy. No perfect company. No perfect chip. Stop looking for your identity in a piece of hardware! That is one of the best thing's I've heard in a long time.

Are you using one of them Delta jet engines with that? IMO, Intel's stock coolers are really good. In comparison with the retail heatsink for the Athlon, Intel has better cooling--even though the P4 can get pretty warm. Plus, the stock cooling from Intel seems to have a quieter fan. Of course, the physical differences in packaging between the Athlon and the P4 probably do make a difference in the cooling effect, but regardless, I think Intel wins hands down here.

Brian Frank replied to JimmyK's topic in Hardware
There are some cards, like Terratec (I think) DMX Fire that supposedly spanks the Audigy. But for most points and purposes, the Audigy is probably one of the best you can buy. I don't know how the nForce 2 sound will be, but I'm hoping nVidia adds more options in the future, as they lack an EQ currently. But that's really my only complaint about them. -
LOL

ATI has really come around with their drivers. I no longer fear getting a great card with crappy drivers. I picked up an 8500LE that's 250/275 stock and all I'll say is that you cannot beat this card for the money. While I haven't seen it first hand, they say the 8500 is getting to be more on par with the GF4 Ti4200! 8) I don't know how true that is, but I'd say that would be a good assesment, as my LE spanks my GF3 I've overclocked past Ti500 speeds---and that's at default. Overclocking this baby really opens the can of whoop-@$$ on that card.

Y'know, I never really paid attention to my voltages in BIOS, but at 1.60 volts, it tells me I have 1.61 volts--which is fine.
-
Got my chip up to 2.32GHz with 1.6volts and stock cooling (didn't even slop on some better thermal goop) and my Radeon LE up to 290/317 ATM. Who's on?
-
I'll fool with a system a little bit now and then, but I'm not gonna bust my butt to tweak the hell out of it every waking moment. Not that I really have something better to do...

Sigh. Where the frell are the SATA benchmarks?
Brian Frank replied to DosFreak's topic in Slack Space
I'd be intrested in the SATA benches too, as I don't see how the interface is going to speed things up in real life--at least without a faster RPM on the ATA drives. -
But, the Creative/Via issues are much less prevelent with the Audigy. I like the Fortissimo II, as I can leave it on one setting without having to change it for gaming (get nasty, farting bass in UT with certain settings)

Nah. Philipp has him wired up to the NTCompatible server to moitor us all. That's how he keeps the moderators here -

I prefer Budwiser or LaBatts Blue, and Heineken is okay.
