If it's basically your office apps, follow Sampson's advice. Keep an eye on the other apps that give you trouble, if there are any besides Office. The temps are a little high, depending on who you talk to, but they're within the safe zone;) If it's a name brand PSU, you should be okay. i.e. Antec, Enermax, AOpen, Sparkle...300 is fine for what you have, but don't go any lower than that. Instead of purchasing a new PSU (assuming it's not fixed by Sampson's advice) just see if you can borrow a PSU (another 300W) and see if the problem still crops up. By the way, what motherboard do you have?

Well, I got a new toy: a digital camera. Specifically, the Sony DSC-P20, 1.3 mega pixel camera. This is very good, since I can now take pictures of stuff I'm reviewing:D

From what I see, I'd suspect possibly some bad cooling, and possibly the PSU not being enough to power that chip.

If it didn't install, you might want to verify if it's been turned on in BIOS before you reinstall. If not, hit F5 at the beginning of the setup, and you'll be able to choose what PC type you want.

I'll second APC. I've got a 350VA (X-mas gift) and that's, like, under $100, and it has worked when needed.

H-L supposedly uses a combo of the Quake1 and Quake 2 engines with the skeletal animation.

I could have a uber long sig, but I don't think people would like it if my sig was waaaay longer than most of my posts.

At this point, I can't rightly say. Did you change anything in BIOS? Could you post your specs?
-
Did you do a clean install?
-
Yeah, I haven't heard of that one. ;(

No competitor can compete because they haven't come up with really good alternatives. Star Office is nice and all, but it cannot beat my copy of Office 2000. If I had to use another office suite, it'd probably be Corel, since Word Perfect seems to be pretty decent, but that's about it there. Also, companies don't seem to port Windows programs and games over to other platforms unless extremely popular or important. Same with drivers. I'd go Linux, but Windows is easier to use and I have no trouble getting drivers and separate software. The next best thing to Windows for me would be Mac OS X. xBSD? Nope, even more difficult than Linux. I'm not saying the alternatives to Windows necessarily suck, but they are much more of a hassle than anything else--especially the learning curve.

I've heard that Seagate was supposedly putting out new drives that have the RAID 0 thing fixed. Unfortunately, I have no clue where I saw this...Anyway, the WD special edition drives are very tempting with that 8 meg cache.

Look what the cat drug in, heh:D Nice to see ya back, DC.

FedEx. I won't use UPS unless I have to.

Gotta love getting screwed

These are gonna be cool games comin' out. I've been more on the Unreal side of things since my old Voodoo 3 came with Unreal--which was just mind-blowing awesome when I saw it (still is, BTW). Deus Ex is another good game to boot.

The GF4MX's do have one thing that may or may not matter to you: they do not have Direct X 8 hardware, so for DX 8 features (in the games that actually use them), a GF3 Ti200 (or plain GF3--faster than the Ti200) would be better.

Here's my 2 cents: My biggest gripe about Win2k and XP is that the options of what apps go in are extremely limited---something that was enjoyed with Windows 9x. I would like to not have that stupid Windows messenger (I have gotten directions on how to remove the damned thing here, tho) nor the worthless Movie Maker. IE ownz. OE ownz. They work very well, and I see no reason not to use either one. Nutscrape blows chunks. As much as I don't like certain aspects of Microsoft, I have yet to find a better alternative. Microsoft has conducted legal business practices and has come out on top. Companies like Nutscrape are pissed because they are not in MS postition. If you want the truth that's it. It's not about the consumer being better off, it's because people do not understand anything like competition. It's sad when being a successful company is viewed as being an evil corporation that is out to take over the world and screw us all. I prefer to think the US government is doing a fine job of screwing us, but not MS. I enjoy MS jokes, but I don't see them as an evil corporation. Bill Gates has worked for this--a very foreign concept to a sizeable portion of the US. Gates should be allowed to reap a full harvest, as he has earned it. Yet, the company that he founded is being maligned for doing business and not having competitors that want to work. Instead they ***** and file a lawsuit because they cannot come up with a better product. I stand beside BladeRunner in his views if you don't get the hint. If you don't like any Microsoft products, DON'T USE THEM!!!!

Shoot, I can get a dual channel Tekram card that does what that Adaptec does for half the cost. Of course, this all depends on some other things...like a new vehicle

If you've already got the DDR, go with the 845G--one less thing to buy. RDRAM ain't nearly as expensive as it used to be, keep that in mind too. The Asus would be very good as well if you went the RDRAM route.

I don't care who had a hand in RtCW--it still sucked! Not really much of a Quake or Doom fan, and I'm waiting for Unreal 2 and UT 2003:D

Quote: For example that Intels P4 is better than the equivalent AMD because of the relationship Intel has with MS. Bull. The CPU has less to do with Intel/AMD war than anything. Bring in the chipsets, I can understand. That's valid. AMD has just as good of relationship with MS as Intel. Best results would be using name brands like Asus, Tyan, AOpen, etc., and not these off-brands like Chaintech, and Luckytech. If you go Intel, people will advise an Intel chipset on the motherboard--which is fine, I cannot argue with that one. For AMD, some will simply say "Via sucks". I'm not one of them, since I've had no problems running boards based on several Via chipsets (about 6). If you're squemish about Via chipsets, you have AMD's own 760 chipset (one of the oldest available)--but board's have been paired up with the infamous Via 686B southbridge. Another is nVidia's nForce--220, 420, and 415. The 420 and 415 are the better choices with a 128-bit memory bus, unlike the 220. The only difference between them is the 415 lacks the integrated GeForce 2 MX video. I have an nForce 415 board, the Abit NV7-133R, in my main box, and it works great! Sis 745 and ALi's Magik-DDR333 chipset are two other options as well. For video cards, Hercules and Gainward are two I can safely recommend. ATI has finally gotten their act together in the driver arena--meaning their cards don't suck anymore. Creative is still in the sound card biz, but you may want to look elsewhere as they don't feel the need to comply to certain specifications. Check out Hercules or Turtle Beach---or the nForce, this has on-board Dolby-Digital 5.1 sound available. Also, some companies, like Asus and Iwill, are including 6 channel setups on their boards with C-Media chips.

They want to think for us. They feed us only what they want us to learn a know. They will monitor everything about us if they can. This used to be in the movies---which was fine. I don't want this in real life.
