Oh, Philipp, the natives are restless...

I looks pretty cool from the specs.

Unreal 0wnz j00z! IMO, it's better than any Quake title (sorry, guys).

Tom...bleh! Read this article over at AMDMB. This is one of the best sites for any and all things AMD. It's a no BS site as well.

I've about 6 different boards with various Via chipsets on both the Intel and AMD side. I have not had a problem with the chipsets. In fact some of the best boards I've owned used a Via chipset *pats trust Asus A7V*
-
It also depends on who makes the GF2/3 card. Hercules and Gainward make very good cards in the image quality department. MSI is middle of the road. Gainward ownz j00!

When can the KT333A Chipset be expected on boards? Or is it
Brian Frank replied to Preacher's topic in Hardware
There will be no "KT333A". The next Via chipset for the AMD platform will be the KT400--which probably won't much, if, any performance boost above the KT333--which didn't prove much faster than the KT266A. -
Once again, it states the obvious ;(

I'm just gonna do a little more case modding here and probably buy a new power supply for my duallie...looks like a little brown out got to the bugger and gave it fits.
-
Try that first. Failing that, I'd suggest getting WinDVD instead. Power DVD seems to crap out after awhile under Win2k and XP, where as WinDVD never gave me any trouble at all. I'm not sure if the same scenario is with NT 4.0, but I figured I'd mention that.

They're timings for the memory at the rated speed. The lower, the better. I believe the first one is the CAS latency, not sure about the other two. If you're leaving stuff at stock speeds and not tweaking the memory settings, that'll be just dandy.

It couldn't hurt if you could build a Mac piece by piece. I'd imagine that'd save some of the cost for the normal cased Macs. The iMacs and eMacs I don't think would be very nice to deal with.

I agree, Apple has it's own little niche market. I'd personally love to have a Mac (dual G4's), and I think Apple has had a major role in the appearence of the PC market, but they don't have the umph behind them to cater to a larger market. I think that Apple has figured out they can't win the MHz race, and have stuck to keeping their smaller user base. I think that OS X could have an impact on the Linux community, as X is similar to Free BSD and is much easier to use. Mac's aren't for everyone. I think the new iMac is in really bad taste. Innovative sure, but ugly as hell. I still want an Apple Cube--too bad they don't make 'em anymore. The new eMacs look like what the iMac should've been, and the new macs get an optical mouse standard. Apple in it's current state is going to continue to come out with great ideas but seem to fail at a mass market.

That is definitely the best cooler comparison ever.

Should be intresting to see...

No, the 4600 is faster than the 8500. IF that's what you say is a basic workstation card, you're nuts. The 8500 is a good card, make no mistake, but saying it is faster than the 4600 at stock speeds is not correct. 310/310 is some of the more extreme overclocks for the 8500, up from a 275/275. My GF3 hits 250/571 up from 200/460 stock. The 8500 OC's nicely, but it's not the highest in terms of the major overclock numbers. You're padding the 8500 too much. If any GF4 Ti, it's closer to the Ti4200 (not that it's a bad thing).

CAn we get USB2 card in stores easy? I want to bby A7V266-e
Brian Frank replied to plato's topic in Hardware
I know the local BB's have them, several PC shops do. Umm, I haven't checked, but Newegg.com probably has them. -
Yeah, it's mine. Thanks! I just got a sheet of acrylic at a local Lowes hardware store and had it cut to the dimensions there. I bought some velcro to go with it, and the total cost for both was $10.71. I picked up a cold cathode at one of the shops yesterday. I can see very well in my room (has that PC in there) with the cathode on.

I had cooling on my 60GXP's. and at least one is down the toilet...I'll be getting to it later this week after my semester is over...

I'm not totally sure if this'll work on your end, but when I was installing 98, I thought you were able to select the language being used during setup. This is an english copy, so it may not apply to you.

Thinking of getting asus a7v266-e and XP1800, any probs?
Brian Frank replied to plato's topic in Hardware
There just seems to be a lot of problems with the KT333 boards in general right now, not just Asus. The A7V266-E should be a solid performer right now. -
Did you do a clean install? Have you tried changing your drivers? In BIOS, you may try disabling/enabling the shadowing of BIOS ROM, video RAM, or other shadowing. This is a pure guess, tho, so try the first two things if you haven't already.

I did a little bit of a ghetto case "mod". I picked up a sheet of acrylic at a local Lowes store, had it cut to size there. As it is, I have a clear side panel displaying the guts of my rig. I've slapped some velcro strips at the top and bottom runs of the case where the side panel used to be. Total cost: $10.71 for the acrylic and 2 packs of velcro (ended up using only one).
