Try clearing CMOS and see what you get.

Since this is AMD's first venture into dual-processing, I would not recommend them here. The A7V266E is supposed to be pretty good, as well as the MSI K7T266 Pro2-RU. (KT266A). Abit's alright, I've had mixed results with the KG7-RAID. One was bad and it's replacement had some improper BIOS settings that didn't allow the machine to even boot until I cleared CMOS. The nice thing about it is the HPT370 controller: it's not castrated like the on-board Promise controllers. You can use RAID if you want or you don't have to, all through the HPT370 BIOS. I believe the Asus has a jumper to disable the RAID function, while still allowing the use of the extra IDE controllers, but don't quote me.

They won't. They will either, or already have, cancelled the order, or will be charging you the full $400 for it. I've read this stuff over at [H]ardOCP and AMDMB. Unless it's one of the GF4 MX's, you ain't seein a GF4 for $179, at least right now.

LOL! You can try and blame Via for this one, but it won't fly. While Via does have problems, I'm sick of people automatically blaming them for every problem that pops up.

Check your CPU and make sure the fan is still spinning, if you haven't.

Definitely not wireless yet. You'll spend a small fortune on batteries. Not sure about the dual-optical, but I've heard it's pretty good.

Quote: Well im testing a radeon 8500 in my puter at the mo. Seems like a nice card, much better than i expected, and where are all the driver issues that ive heard so much about ? Everything works flawlessly so far. When I had mine, I wondered the same thing. ATI has definitely come around with their drivers. Perfect, no, but a helluva lot better than they were at the launch of the original Radeon.

I like the MS Intellimouse Optical myself.

Also, under Run, type in gpedit.msc and you'll have access to a lot of different goodies to play with.
-
Have you downloaded X-Setup? I remember their being an option in there to hide drives.

Norton Utilities sucks, plain and simple. Most of the tools in the suite did more harm than good. I'll use their AV and Firewall, but that's about it.

Try Sparkhard's suggestion, Zehn.

I'm not trying to start a war, but Anand and Tom are not the best anymore. There's a lot better sites out there, such as www.amdmb.com , www.2cpu.com , www.tbreak.com , and www.dansdata.com . For very indepth reviews, sure, Anand and Tom's are good, but Tom's especially has been sliding downhill. I like Via and AMD, but I don't think at this point AMD is server-class material. Home and enthusiast material, yes, just not something for a server or other business-related stuff. Currently, Intel is back for the overclocking with the 1.6A P4. People are hitting 2.1 to 2.4GHz easy with this chip. I know clutch is running his 1.6A at 2.4GHz. Intel isn't a monopoly. They still have to compete with AMD and the likes of Sun. Intel is a dominate force in the CPU market, but it's been because they've always done a quality job with their chips and chipsets---well for the most part. For gaming and overclocking, I do prefer AMD. I understand that people don't like Via: Via has had major issues that affected a lot of people. Via's worked out well for me, but that doesn't mean the next guy is going to have a rosy experience with them.

Did you check to see if you're cables are properly connected? Do you have a lot of stuff running in the background? Have you checked for a firmware update?
-
Sorta. They advertised it as that cheap, but then upped it's price and cancelled the orders so as not to screw people over. I do know that people were really pissed about it regardless.

WinXP CDRW Software - Thoughts/Recommendations needed

Uh-oh. Bill in consideration would ban home-built PC's.
Brian Frank replied to Brian Frank's topic in Feedback
Yeah, the whole premise of the bill essentially incapacitates the PC industry from what I read. It would also outlaw open-source stuff. Just goes to show that the government doesn't always know what they are doing. It's the thought of the government even attempting something like this that's scary. But, you're right, this thing probably won't pass. -
There are Uniprocessor ACPI and Multiprocessor ACPI under Windows. If you have it set as a standard PC or Multiprocessor PC (non-ACPI) going over to ACPI will cause problems. Same deal vise versa. I've been runnind different steppings on that same board and the only problem I've had was a driver issue with my video card. If you can do it, try a reinstall. It might not like switching from the cyrix to 2 P3's--although I'm kinda skeptical of this myself. Before that, try clearing CMOS and running your system then. You may have set something incorrectly in BIOS that's giving your system fits. It could be a faulty mobo, but let's not jump their just yet. If you could post the entire system specs for your dual rig, it'd give us some more info to work with.

If you haven't backed it up, yes, you will lose the stuff. Personally, I have partitioned my drives so that I really only have to format my XP partition. If your computer was made for XP, you will have to download all your drivers for 98.

Out of curiosity, what does the poll have to do with this thread?

This board doesn't have a lot of OCing options, among those that you mentioned. I'll probably get a KT333 board when they're available, probably the one from EPoX. For right now, I guess It'll just have to be the ol multiplier for me. I had it at a 151MHz FSB, and the PCI divider tops out at 4. All other cards worked fine, which is what makes me kinda mad.

Best Buy has been wrong before;). Also, AGP 8x is pretty moot anyway, as I don't recall AGP 4x being a real cramp for anything yet.
