Ahh, silly me. My freakin USB card doesn't like high FSB's, which is a bit of a problem since I've already given up the on-board USB due to the KT266 chipset.

Hellafax, you shouldn't need to reinstall. XP should detect the CPU's as new devices w/o you having to do anything (other than phsyically install them). New CPU's don't require a reinstall under XP. XP isn't like it was in NT.

Quote: 2 years? no kidding? No kidding. It was our senior banquet (went to a private school which didn't have dances or proms) and it was really akward as it was a blind date. I really should've asked one of the girls in my class then...oh, well I can't go back and change it. ;( I've never really considered meeting chicks online, but I have been eyeing a few around town. Now, it's the nerve I have to work up, hehe. At least I have a better chance of telling that it is a chick I'm talking to. I'm not that desparate for a girl, but it is rather depressing to know it's been almost 2 yrs since my last one.

Definitely look for something used, as brand new SCSI and dual processor stuff is mucho dinero.

I've never had a bass test in the speaker test. I don't think there's supposed to be one. I'm not worried as I have it in everything else.
-
I'd like some free stuff too, for reviewing so I don't have to shell out of my pocket. New hardware=fun.

I'll probably wait for a new board, but I may look into the Epox KT333 board when it hits. That or the 8KHA+ in the future. But first, when I get my tax return, I'm getting a new monitor.

You sure you got the bass adjusted on the sub and/or audigy?

Everyone talks about overclocking, what about noise?
Brian Frank replied to Marktait's topic in Slack Space
That's one of the best all-around cooler comparisons I've seen. -
Even with all the games installed, that thing ain't worth $5 grand.
-
I know power strip works, but I don't want to have to pay $30 for some overclocking software, when other stuff is free. You may have to try several suggestions they have @ Rage3D to get it working.

If you can stand some noise, the Vantec CCK-6027D. It's 20 bucks and is a copper cooler with a 5500RPM fan. It's not a jet engine, but you can hear the fan. I'm very impressed with this fan. Most reviews I've read, and one I wrote over at TechWareNet (see link in sig, no pimpin' intended;)) can be summed up like this: It's cheap and cools well. -
I don't know, but I don't see why not. The Nforce is a good chipset for mATX boards. I'd hope they would, but I'd have to look on their site.

Windows XP is starting to get to me [ZIP support]
Brian Frank replied to pmistry's topic in Slack Space
I'm using Winzip 8.0, and it seems to be doing just fine. -
Or you could try the mighty Swiftech MCA 462A, if you want to do this moderately cheap.

ASUS A7M266 + SB Audigy = audio skipping (WinXP)
Brian Frank replied to Shin_Magus's topic in Hardware
Have you tried switching the slot the Audigy is in? Got the latest drivers from creative? -
Holy bat-crap, Batman! 8)

That'd be cool, and I live where I can use refridgerent for cooling and it'll be legal.
-
Might also wanna try setting the CPU back to the defaults too. Tyan doesn't really make overclocking boards, and that may be where you're running into trouble.

3 Maxtors here that were RMA'd. One of those became mine if I'd RMA for my dad, which I did. So far, Western Digital seems to have been the best in recent times.

In my RAID setup, I just leave it as one huge partition. Works fine. I probably could partition it, but it's almost more of a hassle to so I just leave it as one big one.
-
Not that I'm gonna buy it, but I wouldn't expect much over $300 for that system right now, being used and all.
-
I know it's in beta testing currently, but not much else. I haven't really been paying attention to Win2k as much since I went to XP.
-
I'd seriously just upgrade my video card instead of a new CPU/MB combo. The Radeon 8500 can be had for around $200, and it is a freakin' awesome card. I've used it before, and ATI has done a major turnaround in the driver development area.

As bad as people bash Via, I've been rather pleased with their chipsets for what I do. I haven't run into any major issues, other than a few Nvidia drivers, and a few cases of user error. ALi just doesn't have what it takes, at least from what I've read.
