I think it's something about Media player marking the files if they were ripped under them. Otherwise I don't know. I don't really care for MP myself... If you haven't already, get and install the Via latency patch. Also, reserve an IRQ in BIOS.

Hey, clutch, you know the KG7 is a AMD761/Via 686B combo. BTW, what was your exact config? I'm troubleshooting a guys rig that has the KG7 in it...

Welp, this thread just went to hell:D ;(

Here's the irony: I've had trouble with the famed 440BX. On one board the USB ports worked intermittently, and the other (an Abit BE6--a big mistake right there) was just unstable. Also, thanks to Wolf87 for bringing to light the fact that Intel does have problems just like Via.

"While Microsoft is huge, it's because people choose their products over the competition. AOL is huge because they force their product into every household. I hate this and curse AOL's name." Yup. That's the reason people are pissed at MS, because they actually did their freakin work!! AOHell drives me nuts. Even my non-geek pals are getting sick of the *cough* service *cough* ;( MS doesn't always make me pleased with their methods, but these are stuff the lawsuits aren't going after. The 'suits are just after the competitive stuff from MS. I don't care what people say about this monopoly BS, IE owns any browser, any day now. Netscape has lost, and until IE really rubs me the wrong way, I'll continue to use it. MS may have some annoyances, but their products do work! Not always correctly sometimes...Why didn't they go after the AOHell-Timewarner merger? Because the service isn't good enough to merit a lawsuit. It seems as though it's a bad thing to put out good products and fairly kick the competition's ***.

I have to agree with CUViper. If Apple is trying to play the megahertz game, they've lost a long time ago. I'd be thrilled if the OS X did make the port to the x86, but only time will tell. I think Apple is doing their own thing instead of trying to compete now that they are so far behind the x86 PC's. I think it's important to point out that speed isn't everything. Obviously, more power is a good thing, but not if it's gonna interfere with the rest of the system's integrity. Apple hit a roadblock and were smart enough to not push their luck.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. -
Well, you can see I changed my sig, but my file server, Animosity, got a little upgrade. I dropped my 800MHz Duron in there and added a couple of 48x CD-ROMs for sharing CD-ROMs we can't mirror. The case is full, so if we add any more, I guess I'll have to get a full tower:D.

I've had good luck with Newegg.com. I've never had a problem with them shipping me stuff and it's always been delivered on time. I checked resellerratings.com and they had the least complaints of any vendor I checked, and these were very far and few between.

Sounds like you have a bad stick or a mislabled 256.

Because Microsoft is evil and AOHell isn't.

I've seen this problem before, and it cleared up when the motherboard was changed. The motherboard was an FIC AZ11, so I'm not sure if this applies or not.

I've had good results from Asus, AOpen, MSI and Tyan. Any of those are highly recommeded. I'm not as impressed with Abit as they seem to be overly hyped and then don't live up to their reported greatness. If it is AMD you seeketh, jump over to AMDMB. It's the best site out their on any and all things AMD, without being a zealot-nut site. Tom's: woopdeedoo. There reports, along with anand's, are good as far as the shows like comdex go, but I typically don't hit their sites up too often, much less put a lot of stock in their reviews. They tend to get too damn long. What's good about it, what sucks and just show us a few benchmarks. Cooler roundups are one of the few things I've really appreciated that they do.

In my experince, FIC has sucked ***. I will never buy, much less recommend anything from them--even to my worst enemy. Oh, and if you're using the 23.11's, get the 21.81's or something older. I've had nothing but trouble with the 23.11 drivers.

Well, I've done some major overclocking on that GF3: 250MHz core, 571MHz ram so far! I have surpassed the Ti500 stock speeds and then some. I'm also RMAing a drive for my dad, which I get to keep once it comes back:D. We've had a lot of different hdd's and so far the best ones we've had have been Western Digital. I don't know if we got a bad batch of Maxtor's or what, but this is #3 in RMA from home. Oh well, maxtor is good about RMAing stuff to ya.

All I know is that's slow and I never bothered to look for a fix if there was one. Basically, run it and go do something else for awhile.

I've also heard, NT=No Technology

I don't know if this applies, but I've got a fix that may help. Just go to device manager and remove the device and then put it in your other machine. The downside is that you'll probably have to endup rebooting to get it to work once it's in the other machine. I've only tried this with IDE drives, so your mileage may vary.

Make sure you have sharing enabled on the 98 machine and that both systems have the same networking protocols.

Is it a new NTFS or something completely different.

It could be your ISP giving you trouble.
