GeForce 2MX 400's are the strongest you can get in PCI format, and are had in local stores for just under $100, and cheaper on line.

Anybody have any recommendations for these add-ons?
Brian Frank replied to clutch's topic in Software
All I want to know is why the hell MS puts the DVD player and other such items if we need a 3rd party to make it work. Space wasters is my opinion on them. -
It might be something with the Apollo Pro 133/A chipsets, cause people have had problems running USB keyboards under XP on the Abit VP6 too.

Incase any one cares Nvidai came out with 3d drivers for XP
Brian Frank replied to Yearout's topic in Games
You mean 3dfx drivers?! 8) -
What mobo ya got?

Hmmm...that's odd, it shouldn't slow down like that. Take the new ram out and see if things go back to the way they were. Also, list yer specs if you need more help.

Happy B-day clutch! I can't forget the resident networking guru, among other things

Also, with Abit boards, you don't have to use the RAID functions if you don't want, but still use the extra IDE controllers.

Well, a friend of mine has a P3 450 and 384MB and XP is fast under his system. Then again I'm comparing it with 98 they were using.

Specs in sig (as usual). The Imperial Star Destroyer takes forever to boot up in XP. I know this uses 5400RPM drives, but gimme a break. I defragged 2 partitions, C:\ being one of them. I'd also noticed a slow down before going to XP under 2k. Is this a sign my drive(s) are going bad? I've defragged using the XP defragger, but I don't see how this would hose the system. I did reformat my NTFS drives as NTFS 5.1, but I don't think this is the problem. I'm not sure what's up, but I know something is screwy.

Defragging slowed my system down...otay
Brian Frank replied to Brian Frank's topic in Customization & Tweaking
That's fine. I finally found out the source I've my troubles: my drives were going down the crapper, and I'm RMAing them right now. I did grab a 40GB 5400RPM Maxtor at Best Buy for a quick fix my rig, cuz I won't see the RMA util Christmas if not later. Fortunately, a local shop will take care of the RMA process for me and I just have to pay shipping both ways (if Maxtor charges them for return shipping) -
What do you guys thing about SoundBlaster Audigy card?
Brian Frank replied to whoisurdaddy's topic in Hardware
Yeah, I like WinAMP better myself, although Media Player isn't too bad--just not as good as WinAMP. BTW, why does WinAMP suck anyhow? I can't stand the "This sucks" responses without a reason of why. That just makes you look like a troll. -
I'll vouch for Xiven's comment. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Personal experience with ACPI has taught me this: "Leave ACPI the way Windows has it or suffer the consequences."

I'm very satisfied with my Audigy X-Gamer. Works wonderfully under XP and 2k. -
Yes, but he has an ATI RageFury Pro VIVO I'll bet that thing does him a lot of good:D

DDR questions, looking for some feedback here!
Brian Frank replied to smokinkane's topic in Hardware
I've heard bad things about OCZ, so be warned. Crucial RAM is good stuff. I believe Corsair has some--at least so I'm told. -
AlecStaar and everyone, I have poor hd performance in XP Pro
Brian Frank replied to DARTH maul's topic in Customization & Tweaking
I don't know. I have the A7V myself, but just the 1007 BIOS. The speed has been a little dissappointing under XP. I know I've got 5400RPM drives, but I was expecting a little better performance than what I have. I'm not sure why this is, but things are at least a little faster than under 2k. -
Right! And the real reason for these lawsuits in the first place is because MS is guilty of being sucessful. I don't agree with everything MS does, and frankly, there isn't another product that can fulfil my needs as far as an OS or browser. The software isn't perfect, but it's not like we're talking about WinME (which they should be prosecuted for:p)

Yeah, that does take a while. Playing through again.

Quake 3?

XP pro and Epox 8K7A: Should I install the Via 4 in 1's?
Brian Frank replied to pr-man's topic in Software
That's the AMD761/Via 686B board right? If so, use the drivers off Epox site, not the 4-in-1's. Otherwise ignore this post. -
Odd. This is really dumb, but did you perchance happen to hit 'Apply'?
-
Well, I went into safe mode and deleted it all. I was then able to uninstall it from within Windows (??!). Now everything works...great.
-
Do a clean install...otherwise you'll have a private hell for a while.
