Internet seems to be way faster in XP than in Windows 2000 p
Brian Frank replied to dalmiroy2k's topic in Software
I can't tell a diff. Actually, I find XP to be slower for some reason. -
Yup. There's lots of stuff I'd like to take out, but you can't. I do remember reading something here about being able to modify something so that you could uninstall movie maker and such...just don't remember where.
-
Yeah, now if I can just get my little networking problem fixed...I'll be set. Check the networking section for XP for my problem, APK.

XP Pro has everything XP Home does and then some. Do you want everything Pro has or not? Home is cheaper, but if you're looking into SMP you will have to have XP Pro.

You may want to try turning down the bass a little bit. My Audigy sounds really bad if the bass is cranked up all the way on the analog speakers.

OEM hardware doesn't require the purchase of something extra. OEM software does require the purchase of hardware even if it's a $5 fan.
-
Correct. The betas and RC's ran duallies just fine.
-
Okay. Have you tried a different CD-ROM drive? Different IDE cable for the CD-ROM? On a different PC running Win2k?
-
Mmmm:D 2 of them in RAID 0. Do you know how much crap you could store on that. Do you know I have yet to fill up a 20GB hard drive, yet I have way more than that on both machines?
-
What drivers are you using or have tried? What is your configuration? and what is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
-
I've not owned a Live!, but I do have the Audigy and love it. If you're having problems with the Live!, the Audigy relieve you of your problems.

Have no clue about MS 'new math'.:-/

Want to speed up your disks... BIGTIME? Try this software...

Not to rain on your parade, APK, but Systernals has some freeware stuff that may be a better option for many people. I know for one, that's money I just spent on a couple of 60GXP's for my VP6:D -
When you did an upgrade did you just install Win2k over ME? Or did you do a clean install (i.e. Format the drive and then install Win2k)

While, yes, SCSI is faster, do you really need SCSI? If you need the fastest, I hope you have deep pockets sir. Cheap and SCSI aren't words I'd usually use in reference to hard drives. Let's put it this way: I just got a pair of IBM 60GXP 40GB 7200RPM ATA100 drives for $190 + shipping. You try to get SCSI for that price. I'm not discouraging SCSI, but for gaming I don't know if that's necessary. If you have the money, hell yeah! GO FOR IT!!!!!

http://www.franknethardware.cjb.net Also, moving to a more spacious hosting site:D Why, yes, I am pimping my site! New design

Actually, in a whole differnt spin--this being a main reason, I'm gonna "merge" with the site www.nagetech.com. If you've seen a couple of threads about BetaBoard Elite, or by nagetech, this what I'm going too. Geocities has their own html editor. I am getting frontpage tomorrow so I have it handy. Not to mention a copy of XP Pro. My buddies go to a differnt college in town than I and that college gets MS software for dirt cheap: $5-20 per title. You figure out where I want to get hooked up. At my school, they've got some java runtime thing on all the machines. I get debug errors every time I goto my page--durning breaks, y'know. ;(

Audigy Platinum EX or Game Theater XP in WinXP?
Brian Frank replied to INFERNO2000's topic in Hardware
Audigy has a newer DSP than the Herc GTXP. I can't speak for the XP functioning, but it sure seems to be doin' fine under 2k. I'll probably end up going to XP sooner or later, and I'll let ya know how things go then... The last creative card I had was the SB16PCI--works great!!! -
Hmmm...I believe 98 has to be within the first 6GB of yer disk or in the primary partition. You could move the partition, but you'd need something like Partition Magic to do so. That's where you're running into problems.
-
Not to throw this thread into more chaos, but I've heard that Partition Magic 7 allows you to convert from NTFS to FAT32 w/o reformatting (why on earth you'd pay money for the program if you wanted to do NTFS to FAT32 w/o formatting and it didn't do it is beyond me)

Geo$hitties. I don't mind ads on my site, but I mind popups and spy-ware BS. Java and my site don't get along. Hopefully moving to a new server may fix that. I don't do any HTML coding--pure graphical, so I guess that's something on my list to learn

I guess this is a little belated/late, but it's me first visit today.

Talking about the original? Blame Yamaha on this one. They cut rear speaker support from the Win2k drivers I highly doubt it. *snif* I love that card, which will stay alongside my favorite hardware when I retire it like my Voodoo3 3000 AGP.

Why would this only affect Visiontek GF3's?
