    SATA - Slow datatransfer ZZZZzzzz

Quote: well ya screwed up by buyin intel for starters. just being told that you need some screwy application accelerator or whatever its called should have thrown up a red flag. personally i would can your system or get your money back, and go with the amd 64 bit processors. Well, there's nothing wrong with Intel. AMD used to be crap. The only thing I see wrong is him buying FIC, but that's just me. I'm typing this statement on an Athlon XP 2000+ and a Via KT400 motherboard, BTW. 64-bit is nuts for the desktop right now anyway, and I'd wait until Socket 939 is mainstream anyway. I'd agree with tylau's suggestions as well. Check the hardware.

upgrade to xp and machine doesnt turn off :(

Did you do a clean install or just upgraded to XP over 98? If it's the latter, that may be the problem.

    Different upgrade paths...

The 2.6 and 2.8 should OC roughly the same, but you'll have a higher FSB if you use the 2.6.

    FS: i865P mobo, 2 PIII's, heatercore

Even better... "Yes, we need that quad Xeon system. To increase productivity...of course." Hehehe I'm still waiting for this one guy to send the money for that SuperMicro board...at least I was smart enough not to send first.

Well, unfortunately, your too late. I closed a deal last week with someone else. Hope you see this before you send money. First come, first serve. I hope I didn't mislead you about this. Nobody was really expressing any intrest for a while until late last week.

AMD To be a threat to Intel?

Tyan is basically the king when it comes to 2-way and up AMD boards. I'd hit up 2CPU's forums for more info. Probably the best source of all things dual.

    FS: i865P mobo, 2 PIII's, heatercore

So far, I haven't had alot of intrest in them, so you're probably safe if things keep going like they are.

I deal mostly with Paypal for instant stuff, and this is the first time I've heard of Neteller, and with my recent financial issues, I'd rather not mess with it for one transaction. I will ship to PO boxes, however. As for the P3TDDE board, I just closed a deal with another guy for it.

250W is kinda low, but then again, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

    power source

Quote: thx for the answers, since i dont wana risk anything ill buy a 500w, i think i can get one for about 20 bucks, anyway thx again Good god! That's not a good way to go about getting the PSU. Spend some money on one. If you've got the cash to drop on the video card, pay a little more for a quality PSU. Not all PSU's are equal. The cheper ones are cheaper for a reason. Buy an Antec, Sparkle/Fortron...something good.

Thinking about a Geforce FX 5900

Another thing I've heard, and don't know if it's true or not, is that nVidia had their version of DX9, but MS didn't go with that, and nVidia based the GFFX's on their own DX9 version, not MS's. Thus the reason the GFFX's are showing such poor DX9 performance. I haven't done enough reading to really know if this is true or not, but it's at least an intresting theory.

Thinking about a Geforce FX 5900

I'm not sure why you're against ATi, but they have the better DX9 implementation right now. The next GPU line might fix that, but we don't know yet. ATi has sucked in the past, but right now, they've got their act together.

'Master' and 'slave' computer labels unacceptable

Quote: whats up Brian, man, you got alot of posts here now, whats up D0Sfreak? i was devastated by this news. Master and Subordinate wouldn't be so bad though. Not much. I've got alot of posts, but have been surpassed as the NTComp forums post-wh0re. This is just an example of why Political Correctness is stupid. It doesn't matter the intent, it's still offensive and thus must be changed to appease a small percentage of people...but this did come from Cali...and there are some major pro-weed guys over there. Coincidence?
  16. Getting Saddam is a good thing. As for decreasing hostilities, not much will change, but I think it may make a few people think about pushing their luck (the N.Korea mad scientist, other Arab leaders).

'Master' and 'slave' computer labels unacceptable

If they're sooooo offended by it, let them relable it themselves. If I were heading up the companies talked to about this, there'd be more master slave stuff on just out of spite. Master IDE controller, Slave IDE controller. Master PCI slot 1, Master PCI slot 2, etc.

New games out or coming out.

I've pre-ordered the new Deus Ex . Other than HL2, there's not many I'm really looking forward to. I'm hoping Croteam puts out another Serious Sam , since they leave you hanging at the end of SS2.

    DVD software vs XP

I can't figure it out: all the software DVD players I'm using on my latest PC build are either displaying the DVD picture bigger than what can be seen (it's like it's zooming in and can't be unzoomed) or crashes out. I've tried MSIDVD (WinDVD w MSI's name on the skins) and that crashes out. No errors on the display, but I do get the a 0x000051d5 error when I check the event logs. Power DVD 3/4 and the NVDVD 2.55 Trial play it fine, except for the fact that it seems to be zoomed in. I haven't the foggiest clue why it's doing it, but I can't seem to fix it. I've tried running the DVD with Media player, but it only reflects whatever the DVD software is doing. Specs: MSI 865P Neo P4 2.4GHz 512MB PC3200 PNY GF4 Ti4600 Hercules Fortissimo II XP SP1 w latest updates Det 43.03 Latest Intel INF and App. Accelerator versions Fortissimo II driver 1.50 I've not had success running Power DVD in the past, but the MSIDVD and other versions of WinDVD have never given me trouble in the past on other versions of Windows.

Well, I tried different drivers, and no luck.

    upgrading computer without formatting

I'm lucky. I was able to get a full, legal version of XP Pro w/o product activation being required. A college here in town has some deal with Microsoft, and getting stuff like Office, Windows, etc, is like $10 per CD. One of my buddies got XP and saw it couldn't run on his system, so he went and sold me his copy. I've got stuff partitioned on my machines, so I don't have to backup everything just to do a clean install. I reformat C (or whatever drive XP is gonna be on), and other stuff is left untouched.

64Bit Computing, A bit too much?

Right now, it's really not useful for the desktop, but AMD seems to have a solution that can go head to head with the Itanic and for quite a bit less. For the price, the Opteron and Athlon 64 are simply not in the price range for many people, and certainly not that useful in most cases. 64-bit is still in the server-class market, as far as I'm concerned.
