The slipstreaming thing with automatic support for the Promise controller? I don't think so, tim. Can't say for 100% sure, but I highly doubt a slipstreamed Win2kSP2 would give ya that advantage.

I may have to try Epox the next time I do a mobo upgrade, but as my A7V is running soooo well, I'll hang tight (watch me buy a new mobo next week ;( ) Hopefully the local shops will get a hold of them and Iwill. I've heard very good things about both, especially Epox, and as a reviewer, would like to get my hands on anything anybody will send me.

Quote: Screw XP Well put. Win2k runs all the games I want it to, and runs them very well. I've tried XP, and IMHO it's a yawner.

If you check "Show Hidden Devices" in the View menu, you should see it then.

As that's an industrial graphics card, that non 16-bit issue may be something built into hardware and nothing, save buy a different card, can be realistically be done.

I just like UT, cuz I can fire up a few rounds with bots at x difficulty level instead of needing to get online. I'm also not a real team player mostly. Shoot 'em all, let God sort 'em out. Shoot anything that moves I lean toward Unreal games and HL single player except for HL:BS--real BS too, I might add.

*scratches head* I'm perplexed. Dunno. Try reinstalling them I guess. Not sure what else to do. I guess check Add/Remove and see if they show up there, then go from there.

Okay, for the 3dfx users trying to get their cards to run under XP, if you have success with some drivers, post where you got them and any problems-if any-you have noticed.

The 10.80's have never let me down in Win2k--ever. The 21.81's are my new pick, but the 10.80's are my set to fall back on. I haven't been using WinXP for a while, but the last dets i'd run in it were the 14.40's--very nice performance IMO.
-
It should recognize it. If not, the 14.40 Detonator drivers should work for you.

I don't know honestly, but I will give ya a tip: delete this thread or the other one ya got up. Clutch will crack down on this. *hint hint* just delete your post.

The only two things I can think of are a shaky proposition at best. Voodoo 100 or 200TV, or the ATI TV-wonder. Driver support is questionable even tho ATI might be a better shot, as that company's still in business. Unfortunately, ATI has be lacking in general with driver support.

Are you implying that the 133 means ATA133? I might have a misunderstanding here, so bear with me. That's impossible as that motherboard is too old to have ATA133 standards. The HPT370 is an ATA100 controller. ATA133 has just come out! Actually, to contradict an ealier statement, Abit's brand new KR7A-RAID does have on-board ATA133-RAID, but it's the HPT372 controller, not the HPT370 we all know so well.

Any P4 S478 users out there? What MB you got?

I'd lean toward Asus myself, but that's just me. Abit hasn't been the greatest company in the stability department, IMO, but they're not awful either, just not the best. -
LOL! I should be opening some presents soon:D

As far as IRQ's go in ACPI, they are ignored. Win2k may not be totally independent of the BIOS, so it *may* be prudent to make sure UDMA is set for the device in BIOS. I personally set it as high as possible, but you don't have to. I also have that same DVD drive in the Samurai Pro and it does run in UDMA.

Most definitely. Mmmmm...babe-age---dang! Now it's becoming like [H]ard|OCP!*shrugs* Not that I care. Too bad you didn't have a bigger feather, clutch

how do i enable agp fast writes and side band addressing
Brian Frank replied to Four and Twenty's topic in Hardware
I hear ya. I'd get Riva Tuner instead, as the GTU has more tweaks than I knew about. Just skip it, it's a dangerous tool for those who don't know what they're doing with it. I got fed up and uninstalled it. 1850=i850. Coincedence? I don't think:D (yes, I meant that) -
WinXP comes with extra "features" that you may or may not want/need: Movie Maker, System Restore (is not better than a backup at all), Windows Messenger and the Passport that won't die--all aren't an option. Win2k has been out longer, so you're more likely to have fixes for problems. WinXP has just come out, but as the newest version, the support is going to last longer.

So, you're not that babe? Dang!

Thanks, guys:D Well, I bought a small bottle of Kahlua and mixed a shot with some Coke (not that kinda coke!). Pretty tasty actually...like chocolate:p I don't have time to get drunk today! Evening class and a paper I've been putting off is due then. ;(
-
Not sure. Have you tried right-clicking on your desktop, going to Properties-->3dfx Tools tab? That's the only other thing I can think of right now.

To sum it all up: -Boot off Win2k CD -Hit F6 when the blue screen comes up (not the blue screen of death) -Hit S when asked to install SCSI drivers -Feed in floppy disk you should have with Promise drivers on them -Feed floppy if asked to again That or just plug the hdd into the other IDE ports and install the promise driver later on after the Win2k install. edit--- look 1845, think i845:D
