But it's still a good choice for those of us who can't afford that, at least until Abit get the dual Pally's out. I just killed my wallet between the VP6 and the 800EB's as I bought 'em in town. They still run pretty cool with stock cooling--better than C Orbs!. I might get some GlobalWIN's later, but the Intel cooler's are doing a fine job.

Have you tried different drivers? The 10.80's are pretty fast under 2k, but I haven't tried the AA stuff on my MX

Well, I can up the CPU bus up, and leave the ram at 133. Now I'm tormenting the cpu's with a looping cpu benchmark to keep both cpu's as close to 100% as possible and increasing the voltage as necessary. So far 870MHz (145MHz bus) is running fine. CPU's haven't hit above 45C, 105F. I wuz probably doing something wrong the first time, but I wanted to see how everyone was doing, so I could see if it was just me or everyone else.

Has anyone heard of the subscription fees for Windows XP yea
Brian Frank replied to imtim83's topic in Slack Space
I think it's going to just be for businesses, or I'm gonna be pissed. It's a nice thought, but I don't see it as a good thing. I don't think all software has to be subscription-based, especially your OS. DosFreak had some good points in a different post around here, but I forget where under the XP section, and is pretty recent. I don't know about you, but I don't like buying my OS with strings attached that I can't cut. MS has enough money, and while I like businesses to do well, I don't think this is for the consumer's benefit. -
They better get support up for XP, or they be in deep Sh!t. I've heard that EA is just gonna do console games. Fine, as they seem to not want to support the NT core/users...sounds like Creative. Thankfully, I like FPS and other violent games.

Hey, thanks, philipp for continuing to post links to my website! I really appreciate it soo much.

You mean RC2 right? MS hasn't released, nor have I heard that they will release RC3. Could be that things still need to be smoothed out for XP drivers, which are still in beta at this point. I'd play around with some settings, but I can't rightly say what's up at this point.

Yeah, if your CD/DVD drive or channel is bad or the same thing for the hard drive, things could go sour really fast. I would say it's a hardware problem, and the motherboard is a likely candidate. Try resetting the BIOS to the defaults and leave them there if possible, or change a little as possible. If that doesn't fix it, try different IDE cables. Personally, I saw this sort of stuff with my Asus A7V, and apparently changing too much in the BIOS made it go outta whack. Of course my other hunch is that the board is just bad somewhere. I started getting some awful errors during the last few days I had my MSI 694D -edit- One last thing: change the PSU if you can and take out all the cards except for the video and go from there. If this isn't the fix, take the board back for an exchange or a new one.

As long as it doesn't stop me from playing the QT files off my hard drive, I guess it's not that bad. However, it's still freakin' irritating. Good job, ace. ;(

Have you looked at HP or Minolta? I'm not very familar with the all-in-1 printer's but I've seen stuff from HP and Minolta do that. Other than to tell you to go look at their respective websites, I'm not sure what else. I responed just to let you know you're not being ignored, and hopefully attract another who might know what I don't.

Or you could get a board with both DDR and SDR slots. Asus and MSI both carry them, and you could always get the DDR later.

Hercules Prophet II MX, is it better to use latest Hercules
Brian Frank replied to pr-man's topic in Hardware
I had BSOD's with Herc drivers, so I stopped using 'em. I know Eddie314 has that same card also, and he doesn't use Herc's drivers. Just do yerself a favor and use the leaked ones. Which ones are a different story however...me like 10.80's. -
If ATI does some more work on their drivers, I think the 8500 could be able to smash the GeForce 3. Oh, DosFreak, I'd had not been a good English or grammar student.

setting up triple boot Win2k, Winxp and Win98se
Brian Frank replied to jimmytim903's topic in Legacy OS
Okay, install 98 on that new drive just like you would normally. Then you'll notice that you can only boot into 98, even after the install is complete. Now you have two options: repair the install with the Win2k disk or the WinXP disk.Either way, you will have to boot off the cd like you would to install it. For WinXP: just follow everything like you would to install, but then when you see the options to repair, install or quit all together, choose the repair option. You may need to reactivate afterwards. For Win2k: you'll see the Install screen and have the option to repair it also, which you should choose. Do the fast repair and the option to have the disk find the Win2k install itself. Ideally, the best course of action would've been to install 98, then 2k, then XP, but it should still work fine. I'd suggest running the XP repair over the 2k repair, because it's a little less hair raising after you get used to it. -
"Oh, Lord, bless this Thy hand grenade, that with it, thou may blow thy enemies to tiny bit. In Thy mercy. Amen." "Amen." "Well, she turned me into a newt!" "A newt?" "I got better." "Look you stupid b@stard, your arm's off!" "No it isn't!" "You lie!" "What are you gonna do? Bleed on me?"

My dad works on BMW's...and now on Mercedes too. Foriegn cars rule! Your hard drive is a big a$$ trunk!
-
I'd buy it for a friend who can't get his up and running well, but I don't have that 600 bucks, and I need to buy a new radiator for my car. I've spend nearly that much between my VP6 and my P3 800EB's.

In the first two dimm slots only.
-
Ahh. Win2k is very picky about switching something like a motherboard out from under it. You'd have to reinstall it anyway. What is your total configuration that you're having problems with? List everything, specific manufacturers, and sizes (when applicable)
-
Very nice. Not a bad price either.

What do the error messages say? Check to make sure all the cables are fully plugged in and not damaged. For the service pack to work, you will need to have Windows 2000 installed, or integrate it into the install. That information is available here, but I haven't done it yet.
-
Hmmm. Is there anything specific you do before you shutdown when it does this, or does it do this all the time? What's the last piece of hardware you installed before this? What's the last piece of software you installed? What's the last driver you installed?
-
ATI has a great product, but that's worthless if the drivers don't come or suck. Nvidia doesn't get the maximum out of their cards the first time they release a driver, but at least they are able to walk all over a 3dfx card. The Radeons are great, but it's just the drivers that ATI needs to work on.
-
If service packs are supposed to fix things, why didn't MS get it right in the first place? Personally, I haven't had issues with SP1 or 2, at least as far as I can tell. However, eddie is right about the 100MB SP updates: It is totally ridiculous to as a 56K modem user to download an update of that size. I have the luxury of DSL, but it's not the most expensive we could get, so we may not be crusing at the top speed, but even then, 100MB is still a big download no matter how you put it. While I'm not justifying piracy, how much more does MS want? I'm not against them being a successful business, but it's not like their in danger of keeling over for lack of money. If MS released a $100 upgrade to XP Pro, I'd be happy, but, we have no reason to assume that will happen. The prodcut activation feels like we're being mugged here, and like MS doesn't trust anybody. It feels like they're making all of us guilty for the few bad apples that copy and sell MS software to legitimate customers.
