Unable to run UT in w2k_sp2

That's really odd that you've had problems like that. I know UT won't run if you OC to far, and the only other thing I can think of that has given me grief with UT has been some bad RAM. I still have a V3 3000 AGP and, at least for me, I can run UT with 16 bots and good detail in 16-bit at 1152x865 and run well. Of course that's partially due to the Unreal engine being designed to run well on 3dfx cards. For the AMD system, things run great. There is a patch you'll want for Win2k to stop the sys from crashing, but I keep that link handy so I can cut n paste it for the peeps. E-mail me if you want the patch link. Other than that minor issue, things should run fine.

    Dual boot problem

You don't need Boot Magic if you're dual booting between 2k and 9x. I will say right off that I don't like boot magic personally. Now I'm not totally clear on what your doing, but you shouldn't have to mess with anything in BIOS. Question: Did you run the repair option off the Win2k CD? FYI: Boot off of the Win2k CD and hit R instead of Enter. Choose the option for Win2k to find the install directory on its own. Sorry if this doesn't help, but I'm a little confused at to what your doing. The best way to do a dual boot is to install 98 first then 2k, but you shouldn't be having any problems if you don't. I've done it both ways and it's worked out fine. I would definitely run the repair option first if you haven't already.

    Win2K & SMP

Yeah, I've got a dual board but only 1 cpu right now, and Win2k detects the system as a uniprocessor system. For the SCSI, you need to have the txtsetup file and the drivers for the OS on a floppy and feed it when it calls for them.

    winxp 2486 pro

Yeah, they tend to release something new every 6 months, so you could always wait for that, but then again, technology is always advancing, so there will always be something bigger and better right around the corner. With my Voodoo 3, the first game to really start showing the Voodoo's age is Serious Sam, but this is under 2k. Nvidia is probably the best bet right now, basically because they have new drivers out like every month. If you don't want to spend alot for a card, grab a GF2 MX card as right now they are plenty for decently high resolution at 16 bit. I'm personally waiting for the Kyro 3 to surface, which is supposed to add hardware T&L to the Kyro II, and it should be relatively cheap and perform close to the GF3...unless the drivers suck, like some other video card manufacturer.

    winxp 2486 pro

The Pro is cheaper, but the Ultra still needs to drop a little. However, if you want to go all out, and have the money, just drop the cash and get a GF3 and be done with it.

. faulty sblive? limiting my fps to 115

Yeah, try changing the cards positions in the PCI slots, but other than that leave the IRQ settings alone. I've had major problems everytime I've messed around with the IRQ's under Win2k.

    Voodoo5 5500

Oh, don't mind him, he's know to just piss people off. Your best shot is to make sure you've got the latest drivers. There's also a place called Voodoo Files CA on the net. They have drivers too. If I remember the link, I'll try to post it for you. Yes, 3dfx is dead, and I like 3dfx, but if there's no support, well, your kinda shot for the future. Right now, I'd say make sure you've got the 1.04 driver off 3dfx site if you don't already.

    Abit ST6-RAID

Blame it on the chipset, but other than that, it should be good. Abit has a good name behind them. Back to the ram, unless you're gonna use stuff like Photoshop, you probably won't need 512MB, and if that's your only problem with the board, I wouldn't say it's a big deal. Of course if you're not strictly Intel, you could also see what else they offer with more memory expansion, but those would most likely use Via chipsets, and not everybody is thrilled with Via.

    I need a new game-any suggestions?

Tried Serious Sam yet? Very little thinking involved; just run n' gun.

    win2000 setup.. blue screens me

Okay, I'm assuming that you're using the onboard Promise IDE controllers, right? Copy the whole contents of the Promise IDE folder onto a clean floppy, and then you hit F6 right off the bat when Win2k starts its setup and feed it the drivers when requested.

    Long boot times

Sometimes certain parts just cause the system to take a long time to boot, and SCSI cards have been know to do this. You may want to try a few different drivers as sometimes this fixes things like that. Otherwise, you'll just have to live with it.

    Rage128ProViVo

You mean ATI knows how to write drivers for Win2k?! Sorry, but ATI's driver support...well...SUCKS! Generally, the latest should be the best. Honestly, if you want to do gaming under Win2k, you'll want to ditch that card ASAP and get something, anything else. I don't know what it is with ATI, but they have horrible drivers under Win2k, so you will probably be better off getting a new video card. I'm not trying to be harsh, but ATI has some driver issues to work out, and from my expeience, they have their work cut out for them.

Will SP3 W2K be needed ever arrive ?

Yeah, what's up with MS shooting out XP so fast? Really, on the home front at least, there really is nothing on the verge of clobbering Windows, even with ME screwing things up. And then for Win2k users? My opinion is that XP is just a facelift for 2k. All the games I'm interested in playing work fine. There is one game that needs a part for Windows instead of DOS, but I just lost interest in it. Oh waitaminute! I know why MS is releasing another OS! To combat the root of all evil, LINUX!!! According to Steve Ballmer, anyway. I would side with clutch about SP3, though. It would be nice if they got it out; however, I'm not going to be holding my breath.

    Shutdown/Restart Problem.......SiSoft BSOD Help!

Well, those aren't a problem for me, since I only use the CD Eraser with DCD, and I don't use DOS. I didn't really like Nero too well, and EZ CD Creator has worked fine for what I do. I really don't record anything too much. Just data backups mostly. However, I believe that you can get a free version of Nero that expires after a certain date.

Will SP3 W2K be needed ever arrive ?

I agree with CrazyKillerMan, for the most part anyway. Win2k rocks and ME sucks. I've tried out the XP beta 2, but I really don't see any good reason to go to it, since 2k works great, and IMO, XP is just 2k with eye candy and some apps I really don't care for--specifically Movie Maker. And the stuff that I don't want---like Movie Maker, I cannot choose whether I want it installed. Another thing I don't like about XP is the Product Craptivation BS. I ain't buyin' 2 copies of XP. No way in hell am I doin' that! I'm not holding my breath for SP3, seeing as how SP2 took forever to come out. (Some people didn't think it would show up in the first place, but it did. )

    Gaming Problem in Win2K

The ALi chipset is fairly new and not a mature chipset yet, so I wouldn't be surprised if that was causing some problems. I'd read a roundup of mobo's with the Magik1 chipset, and it seems that ALi has some work to do yet. I've not been a real fan of ALi, but still, I figured you might just want to know that. You may try to see if there's a BIOS update for the board, since Asus is pretty regular with new BIOS's.

    Installing windows me after win2k...

Okay, this is gonna be a little tricky with Linux already installed. Where you have ME should be inconsequential right now. I haven't used Boot Magic in a loooooong time, so I can't say much about that. All you need is just a separate partiton or hard drive for ME. Just install it like you would normally and then repair the system later. You will probably have to reconfigure Boot Magic, but nothing too complex.

    Half Life Blue Shift

If you have HL and Opposing Force, don't get BS. It is too short for one, plus there is really nothing new in the gameplay. Not trying to do any propoganda, but I put a review up on my website. For those of you too lazy to scroll down any further, here it is: http://www.geocities.com/bjgrifter1/Franknet_mainpg.html?989994767075

    winxp 2486 pro

I wouldn't say to toss it, but the Voodoo 3 line is no match for any GeForce. Yes, it does work in XP, however, and coming from a 3dfx fan, the Voodoo 3's are past their prime. Get yourself a GF2MX card unless you don't want to upgrade for 2 years, then spend the money for a GF3 and be done with it. Keep the V3 as a backup card, since they do the job in a pinch. Plus, being a PCI card, you still would have something to work with if the AGP goes out, or someone has a mobo with no AGP (like ones with the i810 chipset).

    Gaming Problem in Win2K

Here's a patch that should fix the crashing: http://www.amd.com/products/cpg/athlon-duron/amd_win2k_patch.html I'm pretty sure that should fix things for you.

    Shutdown/Restart Problem.......SiSoft BSOD Help!

What version you got? I've heard of some problems with both 4 and 5. There are separate patches for both on Roxio's website, so try and get it patched up to the latest first. When you say it doesn't work, do you mean that it doesn't record at the highest speed? or does it just not fire up in the first place? or do you get some kind of error message? If it's not recording at the top speed, try recording at a slower speed. You could try to install over what you have currently or uninstall then reinstall it, too.

SiSoft Sandra 2001SE BSOD on exit...

The STOP message is KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT HANDLED. I do have an OC'd system, but it does it regardless the speed, and everything else runs fine. I have an MSI 694D Pro-AR and am using the Promise FastTrack ATA100 PCD 20265 on-board controller with the latest BIOS from MSI. The BSOD names the evian.sys file from the Win2k drivers for the FastTrack controller as the culprit. I went to Promise website to check out their drivers, but they said not to download them if you had an onboard controller. Also, the Promise controller has the FastTrack Lite BIOS ver. 1.31 build 16. Other system specs: P3 667 Voodoo 3 3000 AGP Western Digital 17.2GB ATA66 5400RPM on FastTrack Linksys 10/100 NIC Toshiba 12xDVD--primary master on chipset IDE Panasonic 32x CD--secondary master on chipset IDE Chipset is Via Apollo Pro 133A (694DP Northbridge+686A Southbridge) Any thoughts? I have the latest drivers for the controller off MSI's website, but they are from last year.
