They're Xeon's. Just Xeon's. When Intel put out the Pentium 4 line of higher end CPU's (besides Itanic), they dropped the Pentium X part and just called 'em Xeon's.

Problems schedualing Kazza with Task Schedualer
Brian Frank replied to Brian Frank's topic in Software
Woah! Lotsa info. Thanks. And yeah, I'm no programmer. Don't have a VB editor. The closest thing I've done to actual programming is HTML. I "wrote" a program in a class once, but the prof ended up doing most of the work. I didn't understand it all. I do know why they get paid bukoo bucks, however. -
Does anyone know of any practice test for Win2k Server---preferrably free ones? I've got a class this semester and I'd like to pass this test, if at all possible, and I think having a better understanding of what'll be asked might help me study better. Also, any free practice test for the Net+ test would be nice too. Thanx.

Thanks

Ehh...I didn't like RtCW that well in the first place, but that's not to say I won't at least consider the new one. I hope this one turns out to be longer and more challenging than the first.

Yup it's horrible the way this type of crap happens. The latest "McDonald's food makes me fat" bull is one thing that really pisses me off. Doesn't anyone have a brain in this country? Eat fatty food all your life, you're gonna be a fat ass, buddy! Well, considering that 2+2 can be whatever the hell you feel like too, I guess that's no surprise that they can't come to the conclusion of the original rant here. If something isn't fair, it's apparently fair game to sue or otherwise suck money from someone who has earned it--sadly an alien concept today, I'm afraid. Guns can hurt people? Really? I thought they just gave a hug. ;(

My own special way of saying thank you for all the junk mail

Oh boy, how many different e-mails have I gotten pertaining to that crap. I'm so glad for the lovely "block sender" option. -
I ran an Abit VP6 (same chipset as your Asus board and a dual P3 board as well) and use MPS 1.4 without issue under Windows 2000 and XP Pro. Also, I ran an MSI 694D (same chipset as the Abit VP6) with dual P3's under 2000 with MPS 1.4 without hassle. You should be able to use MPS 1.4 on that system with 2000 or XP without a problem. A really good site to check out is 2CPU and hit the forums. I don't know what version of those Linux distros you've used, but you might try playing with the latest versions if you haven't already...they might not have the issue with MPS1.4.

The 9500Pro (not the Plain 9500) performs and sometimes beats the GeForce 4 Ti4600 and it's half the price if not cheaper. The 9500 (non-pro) is only as fast as the Ti4200, if that. On one hand, the Ti4200 would compliment your system better. On the other the 9500Pro would have more growth when you eventually upgrade that system. Personally, I'd pay for the 9500Pro instead, but it's up to you.

They already are a major player, but they will become bigger over the next several years.

Personally, I played the demo of Quake 3 and didn't find it all that exciting. I don't like the game period, not sure why.

Hmm...I'm not sure I want to know how the old Socket 7 Cryix CPU's were made then...might've been by lab rats

The: What Computer Part did you buy this week thread

I bought the following: 2 packs of Cooler Master ramsinks an Athlon XP2000+ (Paliminio) and I have a Thermalright SK-7 on order from newegg I plan on ordering a KVM switch here shortly as well. -
As far as gaming goes, I've found a GF2 MX200 to be on par with a Voodoo 3 3000...which is pretty bad nowadays.

Quote: It is a known issue that Seagate harddrives works like shit in RAID. U cant fix it. Its something with the firmware in the seagate harddrives and seagate themselfs have been unable to solve it. Yup. Basically, use the card as extra controllers (for your HDD's only) or get some different drives or see if you can get your money back on the RAID card.

Bought a Chaintech GF4 MX 440 64MB DDR AGP card off newegg...not for me, but for another rig I'm putting together for someone else (and making a few bucks on). Should give him enough power to actually play some games for once (I have no clue what's powering his grahpics ATM) -
Good god! That is huge!. I usually don't have enough PCI cards to necessitate using every PCI slot---and PCI 1 is usually left open...but still the loss of a PCI slot isn't terribly attractive. I hope nVidia will do something to deal with the heat better.

The main issue was that it really couldn't run a 133/266MHz FSB. More like 110-115 (if you were lucky). The KT133A also had a nice memory bandwith boost.

Yes, that SiS chipset is about the only shot for an RDRAM board with AGP 8x (not that it makes a real diff right now). With Granite Bay boards on their way out, RDRAM really isn't gonna have a shot, especially since Intel doesn't have anymore RDRAM chipsets in the works. The Granite bay boards that have been reviewed thus far are on par, if not faster than RDRAM boards. Plus, the stuff is a little cheaper. I'm not sure why you have to have RDRAM, but if it's an absolute must, to get all of what you want, you'll probably have to hold up for Sis Rambus chipset. Otherwise, look at i850E boards and get one with as many features as they have availble. If Abit had an RDRAM board like their IT7MAX2, you'd be set. Unfortunately, I don't think that there is.

I'm thinking of getting a little better Athlon for my new LAN box. Right now that 1.2GHz Duron ain't shabby, but I really cringe at having PC2700 RAM and not even really being able to make use of PC2100 speeds. I'm really regretting not spending the extra $15 for that Athlon XP1600.

Bought a case for a system I'm working on for someone else and a green LED'd 80mm fan that I've put on a Volcano 7:D -
Quote: Does that mean im a retard for buying a 9700pro ? yes. j/k It's nice to have the fastest thing on the block, but I have a really hard time justifying much over $200 for any single component. GFFX sounds cool, but the cooling requirements seem to be getting a little nuts. I haven't really read up on it, but I swear I've seen something about it needing a cooling solution like Abit's OTES cooler. If that's the case, that's gonna kinda suck for people that need every last available expansion slot. I hope the cooling market gets some better solutions out there, as we're really gonna need it.

Quote: very true when i got this rig (april?) there were only 2 workstation boards and they are rambus only. but rambus is good and fast but just a little more expensive. i never heard of supermicro before i got this board but i am happy with it not a cheesy board at all SuperMicro is arguably the best mobo company. Them or Tyan. They cost a good chunk of change---but it's worth it.
