Problem with the start menu... :(

Yep, the start menu (and some different things) just works sometimes.... Run, Search and "Help and Support" doesn't always work... Well, I don't care about help, but I hate that none of 'em work more than 1/15 times... If the run-thing's broke, I can use Win+R, but I have my old keyboard right now... And, if I press ctrl+alt+del, for task manager, it usally works with "run" there, but, sometimes, it's COMPLETELY gone! Just "Exit" in the file-menu! What the heck is going on? Same thing in 2486, upgraded to 2502, same... Deleted, installeled RC1 in a different dir, same thing...Help!!

Problem with the start menu... :(

Hmm, I'll try, though I REALLY doubt. It works flawlessly with Win98/2k...

Problem with the start menu... :(

No, I don't think so, once I installed 2486, WITHOUT crack, then I installed 2502, with a crack for 2502, and then I installed RC1 with the RC1 crack....

No problems with 2 NICs in NT4 on a P75?

Hehe, I want all the answers before I get the computer itself... I'm going to do it the easiest way: Internet connection (512 kbit...) --- 10 mbit network to P75 --- 100 mbit network to Duron 1GHz. Is it possible to have 2 differect PCI-NICs in one computer? If so, I'll be happy!

No problems with 2 NICs in NT4 on a P75?

Which means? Do you mean 10 computers or 10 connections? None of 'em should bring trouble though. FTP - MAX 2 connections at a time UD - MAX 1 Firewall (Is this max one or max -all the apps i use on my computer behind this one-)? Web server - May skip this one if it's only 10 connections

No problems with 2 NICs in NT4 on a P75?

Of COURSE I know, but I don't have access to Server... I thought that it would be Server first, but then i changed... BTW, the only thing it'll do is to run a FTP-server-prog, a web-server-prog (does NOT need NT server), and a firewall-prog. None of these programs need NT4 Server, in fact i thought about running Win95!

No problems with 2 NICs in NT4 on a P75?

OK, I knew it was possible, but I didn't know if it worked in NT. I will run NT4 Workstation on my server...

    System Requirements for NT4 Server?

Hi! I'm about to set up a small server at home, with a slow comp, a Pentium 75 with about 32 MBs of RAM. I wonder what would be wisest, Win 95, NT or 98? The tasks it'll do: FTP-server (at most 2 concurrent users) Firewall Running the www.ud.com agent - If enough power's avaiable. Is this possible to do on a NT4-computer?

    System Requirements for NT4 Server?

Thanx! I found that page later, but I thought that I'll let the topic stay anyway. I'll also try to get a 2 GB HDD for the computer, and 48-64 MB RAM.

Shutting down "idle process" in win2k??

Is there any way to disable the idle process in Win2k? I have a AMD Duron, and everyone knows that programs like CPUIdle and so on doesn't work on Durons, so i guess the process in win2k doesn't either, as my idle temp lies around 44C, and my full-load temp is 46C. Can i disable it? And one more thing, is it possible to KILL processes? "setup.exe" is running right now, and i can't shut it down. Help would be highly appreciated. ------------------ //Thomas [This message has been edited by thomas@nordichardware.com (edited 22 January 2001).]

Shutting down "idle process" in win2k??

What about 98 then? If that info is correct, doesn't that mean that the CPU should be cooler using 98?

Shutting down "idle process" in win2k??

Waaait a minute...The page you got that from says nothing about the idle process. That information explains what the "Processor Time" is in the performance-thing.

Shutting down "idle process" in win2k??

I don't know about the cooling, but my P/S fan blow out of the case. I thought that the idle process was "cooling" the processor, I've heard many ppl say that. Damn, I want to know why the temp is so high. Anyway, win2k is the most stable OS I've ever had, I didn't like linux, of course because of the app support. None of the programs that I like to use "is there". Shutting down "idle process" in win2k??

No, no, no. I'm not some kind of amateur. I fixed the setup.exe problem, with "Process viewer" that I got with Visual Studio 6. And no, it doesn't start every time i restart. I still think the idle process is baad. It might be needed, but I'm sure that it is making the processor warmer instead of colder. If you run a program like rain/CPUIdle on a AMD Athlon/duron processor, it'll make the processor work even harder, because the processor don't know "what to do" when it recieve the instructions. My idle temp is ~44C, that with a super orb, a ystech 60mm fan on top of it (the 2nd Orb-fan's removed) and a 38cm fan blowing into the computer. Another guy had 29C as idle temp, that with a Thunderbird 1.1 GHz. But, I'm afraid that it's the silicon paste that's "destroying". If I have a layer not small enough, it make things worse instead of better...

Icons not arranged in correct order

Dargh...Who the hell cares how the icons is arranged? The important part is that you know where it is.

    Irongate vs Duron

My opinion: Duron rocks, I have one myself, and a looot of my friends have. It simply rocks. Now, the old Athlons is also good. DDR SDRAM vs. Rambus, the winner is: DDR SDRAM! I think it's kinda stupid... If you buy a Intel P4 1.4 GHz (that'll be outperformed by a Athlon 1.2 GHz easily, my duron 1000's better than a 1.5) you get 128 MB Rambus RAM with it! Hmmmm...
