DeviLduck, where did you get those 26.53? On every site i checked they jump from 23.xx to 27.xx

Did you do a clean install of winxp or did you just upgrade? Cuz those programs run fine here, version 5.0 for acrobat en 6.0 for photoshop...

I get the same error. It happens after doing a liveupdate for the first time. Something goes wrong when up[censored] something called "redirector" i believe. SyĆ¹antec knows about the problem, i dunno if they are planning to fix it. In the mean time i did the following: go to msconfig like shassouneh said and disable "navapw32" EDIT: the error is described here: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.../kb/query.html?*col=kb%20us*st=1*nh=10*pcode=nav*qp=url:/nav.nsf/b69c799adfa31ecc85256aa30052f4d0,url:us-sarc,url:us-ts,url:us-cs*qt=entry%20point*miniver=nav_2002*sone=nav_2002_tasks.html*stg=*prod=Norton%20AntiVirus*ver=2002%208.x%20for%20Windows%202000/NT/Me/98/XP*base=http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/nav/*next=&sone=nav_2002_tasks.html&stg=&prod=Norton%20AntiVirus&ver=2002%208.x%20for%20Windows%202000/NT/Me/98/XP&base=http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/nav/&next=&src=csm&pcode=nav

If i'm not mistaken win2k uses ntfs 5 and xp uses ntfs 5.1. I had xp installed for a while with my 2 drives in ntfs. But i switched back to 2k => drive1 = ntfs 5 and drive 2= ntfs 5.1 2k seems to be able to use the second drive normally. Can any damage be caused to the data on drive 2 because it's ntfs 5.1? Should i reformat it? Thanks

Messenger like it should have been in the first place
rgodart posted a topic in Customization & Tweaking
You don't want msn messenger to load when you load windows xp, or start outlook express, or log into hotmail? Then go get those registry keys: http://parodry.multimania.com I made them cuz i cannot uninstall msn messenger as i use it from time to time, but i hate when it's got a mind of it's own. ONLY USE ON WINDOWS XP, I DON'T KNOW IF IT WORKS ON ANY OTHER VERSION OF WINDOWS (altho messenger doesn't load with windows on other versions of windows it still loads with hotmail). -
I'm nto asking this for myself, but a friend has a problem to share his cable connection using the built-in win2k ICS. I told him to enable ICS on the 1st network device. But that didn't share the connection + he couldn't surf at all anymore, even after disabling ICS again... Can anyone help? He's using win2k as a server, and win98 as client. Thanks.

I got a network with 1 winxp computer and 1 win98 computer. I would like to give the win98 PC access to files on the winxp server. Is it possible to do that without enabling the guest access in winxp?

The file uxtheme.dll is in the i386 dir on the windows xp cd but as uxtheme.dl_. I would like to replace it with a tweaked uxtheme.dll file. How do i make a dl_ file out o f dll? Is it possible to just replace it on the cd or will windows have problems installing? + how do ii make the cd bootable again after modifying? Also where can i find a good hacked uxtheme.dll. Not just some older version of the dll (as i heard some people succeeded in hacking the original windows xp uxtheme.dll) Thanks, i really hope someone can help.

Yes, you have to do it in safe mode.
-
Did you copy it in safemode? If not, windows must have replaced it with the original again.

I got a 30GB 7200rpm maxtor drive on a promise pci ata100 controller. I benchmarked it with sisoft sandra and i got scores below ata66 (i don't remember the exact score, i believe it was around 18000. i believe a ata100 drive should have around 25000 points. First i thought it was because of the pci controller, i thought it wouldn't be as good as a built in controller on the motherboard. But then a few weeks ago i bougth a samsung 5400rpm backup drive 40GB and put it on the same controller on the same cable a the maxtor in slave, and this one has a score of 24500 in sisoft...Pretty weird, the maxtor should be faster with that RPM. Anyone knows what's going on here? I'm using win2kpro but i had the same prob in winxp. What you can do (if you're allowed to) is take out the drive and put in another pc as slave. just boot your own windows from your harddrive and you will be able to access his data. I did it before with a friend's computer. Good luck, i know how annoying it can be to loose valuable data.

No i'm using the cable that was supplied with the controllercard. The samsung drive is connected to the same cable and it performs allright.

I've been using xp for 4 months but i went back to win2k now. Too many things in xp that i don't like: 1. The new interface, was nice in the beginning, got boring in the end, but ok, that's not the reason i switched back to win2k, it could easliy be put back to classic desktop. 2. WINDOWS XP IS BLOATED!! I don't need all that crap M$ put in it: cd-burning crap that has to be disabled to make nero start faster, msn messenger that loads up all the time, msn messenger, movie maker crap, system restore that never work right (it usually messes up the system more than i fixes it), shared folders,... 3. Msn messenger that keeps popping up when loading windows or outlook express (ok it could be disabled but then again, i use msn messenger every now and then, so i like it to be in the tray when i really need it, not all the time tho). 4. error reporting. There's a bug that makes an error reporting window appear after every bootup. Then after a few weeks it goes away, and then reappears... 5. a problem that i had 2 times. after booting windows i didn't get an interace, but just black. The only things i could see were the icons, all the rest was black, like the theme wasn't applied right...Windows got unusable, unfixable, i really tried everything believe me, nothing helped, i had to reinstall (that's when i decided to go back to win2k). Maybe after the first service pack comes out i might go back to winxp, but for now i' m very happy with win2k.

Forcing XP to fill RAM before using Swap File?
rgodart replied to isochar's topic in Customization & Tweaking
You can safely disable the swap EddiE314. Windows won't cry about it, BUT if you have photoshop it will cry about it...You can try making the swap very small, like 50MB or something. -
I had the exact same problem. I never found any solution but installing IE6. Install internet explorer 6 and the it should work fine.

Isn't the price nuff a reason to go AMD??
-
A certain amount is used by system restore. Altho i don't know where that folder is located in winxp. I have a difference of 4 gigs
-
No that's not what we mean. Consider grouping as phase one of the "cleaning-up-the-taskbar". Phase 2 happens when you open even more windows, then 2 arrows (up and down) appear on the right of the taskbar. THAT's what we want disabled. Although i gotta say i don't have that much windows open that often.
-
LOL ejsmith I agree with you guys, i want to get rid of it too. I've been looking all over the taskbar properties...There doesn't seem to be any option for that.

XP's irq management is really good. I remember the time when i had too much cards installed in the pc and windows ran out of irq's (windows98). Now with ACPI you can just put as many cardss in as you want, windows will take care of the irq. You're problem must be a driver that wasn't written correctly to take full support of the ACPI. Can you post your systemspecs, maybe someone will be able to help you. What you can try is disable ACPI. YOu'll have to disable it in your bios and reinstall windowxp. Then every device should get it's own irq. However you will loose the ability to hibernate and to shutdown your pc with your powerbutton. But since most people don't use these functions... Ohw, btw, what soundcard do you have? .

Weird. I've been using sygate approx a year now and i never had any probs with it. In fact, sygate is the only solution that works fine here. I tried winroute back in the win2k days but it lost my connection after a few days, i had to reinstall it to be able to share again. Winproxy worked for a few days but then wouldn't load anymore => reinstall needed. Wingate was crap, never worked here. You might wanna try comsocks. I liked that one, it was the first to work in xp (not officially, but it worked damn fine). You can get it at www.linkbyte.com. The only problem i encountered with it was https websites, they wouldn't load, but that may be fixed now, i don't know.

I would return the card if i were you. It really looks like bad RAM to me.
