IE6 is everything except bloatware. It's fast, stable, looks like IE5 no skins. It's IE5 with improved security and a handy picture bar that appears when you put your mouse over a picture, which makes saving pictures a piece of cake. I really recommend IE6. It's great. Loads as fast as IE5, and surfing seems faster. Their is nothing to configure in the install as there is no useless crap installed with it, just the bare IE6. install it, you won't regret it.

I'm gonna try to get another one tomorrow. Tehe problem is it's a small store, they don't have any mice to test out... I may go for a MS mouse if i can get my money back... I'v allways been happy with my MS hardware... Logitech has dissapointed me before (with their joysticks).

I got a logitech mouse (cordless/optical) and my wheel was reacting weird in win2k (but not in winMe): it didn't scroll all the time in windows and didn't scroll at all in quake3arena. I then went in the mouse options in control panel and put "use ms office compatibility scroll only". Now it works great. I hope this helps. Also, download the latest mouseware from www.logitech.com

I got a ata100 drive connected to a pci ata100 controller. this is my boot drive an all win2k boot files reside on it. I installed winMe on a ata33 drive on the IDE1 controller of my mobo. What lines do i have o add to make the boot menu see winMe??? My current boot.ini looks lijke this: [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

I'm planning to buy an Athlon 1,2 GB but i can't make a choice between AMD 761 and via133A based motherboards?? 1. Will the 761 give more stability than that freakin VIA??? 2. Does the 761 only support DDR, or can i just put my pc133 sticks in it. Thanks

When i install it and reboot, win2k boots in standard vga mode. When i uninstall pcanywhere and reboot, the colors are normal again. Anyone else experiencing this problem? Ohw, i checked the compatibility database on this site and couldn't find an entry about PCanywhere 10, only about 9.2 which seems to run fine (i don't have this one tho)...

Yup, you got it right. -
Woohoo, problem solved! There is this option somewhere in pcanywhere: "video mode selection" I had to change it from "accelerator enabled" to "compatibility"

ThC is 100% right. I used to buy cheap media (i'm still using a good old hp 8200i burner), and 50% of my cd's came out as coasters. Then, once, i saw a list of recommended brands on the cdrwin site (http://www.goldenhawk.com), since i've used those brands i must say most of my cd burned perfect. i got no burnproof thingie at all on that burner and only a buffer of 2mb if i'm not mistaken.

Who said anything about buying games LOL

deleting the file didn't help to run nfs5 here. I had to reduce the swap file size (i use 256MB now) and nfs work great, better than in win98 (in win98 it was a little choppy on my geforce ddr)

Best drivers for Hercules 3D Prophet II MX AGP under Win2k?
rgodart replied to pr-man's topic in Hardware
I'd say, try out the 12.90. They are the fastest in d3d here (i got a geforce ddr tho). opengl has always been very good, with any driver version. -

rgodart replied to pr-man's topic in Hardware
i think you'd better use bios 1.26 and drivers 1.26. these are the drivers that fixed compatibility issues on IBM harddisks. 1.28b fix issues on the maxtor ata100 HD (+ they slow the whole thing down). you can find beta bioses at: ftp://ftp.abit.com.tw as for me, i gave up that crappy highpoint, it locks up my computer all the time (i got a maxtor hd, and the hpt366 has only probs with it, the solution of highpoint for that was making the hpt370 chip, bastards). I bought myself a promise ata100 pci card and it works great now, + it was very very cheap. -
i felt like i should give you a much more friendly answer than that EM-guy. jeezes this guy will scare new members away from the forum, if he doesn't have time to answer questions, then he shouldn't even bother typing those almost-insulting-lines. anyway, i'm a little sick of whiners: "blabla, go check this first, do more research before posting in forums, yada yada, this doesn't belong in this thread, moderators please move this topic!, bla yada yada". To answer your question: ------------------------ Your setup is very good (i'm assuming you got a fast cpu with that geforce 3) to run games in win2k (especially the RAM part, win2k uses a lot of ram for its basic services (140 MB is used here right now), so 256 is the minimum for games. And the geforce 3, i don't know any issues with win2k. Use the compatibility list on this site to determine if you games will run on win2k. I can tell you Half life, unreal tournament, quake 3 and soldier of fortune work great. I don't have tribes, so i can't help you there. Anyway, welcome to win2k and to this forum

That doesn't work. The computer just resets when i choose "Windows Me" in the boot menu. Here's how i installed everything: 1) DISK 1, on the promise pci controller: win2k 2) A few weeks later i decided to install winMe on DISK 2, on the default motherboard controller (cuz of a scanner that doesn't work in win2k). I can boot either OS by changing the first boot device... But i wondered if it was also possible to do it through a bootmenu. I have done dual boots before, using the win2k boot loader, but both operating systems were on the same HD then, winme on a primary an win2k on a logical partition. So win2k put its bootfiles on the winMe partition, then what "bobbinbrisco" said worked. Do i have to put my win2k bootfiles on the winMe harddisk????? If yes, which files do i have to move?

Well i'm gonna give you the list of the components i plan on putting into the AMD system (currently all this is running on a P3 800 with abit be6-2): Hercules Geforce DDR Soundcard: Hercules fortissimo 2 Maxtor ATA100 30 GB 512 MB pc133 Pinnacle TV Card D-link NIC Pioneer DVD drive HP 8200i CD-RW Also, i only have a 250W PSU, i guess i'd better get a 300W?? I may be buying a geforce 2 Pro once, what were the issues with it and VIA?? Are they solved now?

i have 2 dimms of 256 mb pc133 now. Can i use 'em both in that mobo?

Well thanks a lot, for the links, and for confirming what was said there. It seems via is my only choice then

I'm using ghost 7.0. I have a 30GB and a 8 GB harddisk. I use the 8 gig to save my image files on. For now it is formatted in fat32. My question is if it is possible to make ghost see ntfs partitions as i would like to format the 8 gig drive ijn ntfs. I have tried winternals NTFSDOS (read only version). i made it load before ghost but then ghost gave me an error there isn't enough memory left (damned DOS memory, can't it just use my damn 512 MB RAM???!!) to load Thanks.

Any way to make ghost see nfts partitions to store the image
rgodart replied to rgodart's topic in Software
NVM i tried it out, it doesn't work. I really wonder what drive image does to see ntfs...
