Every time the phone rings W2K freezes. This is definitely a W2K thing cause the same box w/same hardware doesn't do this in W98SE. I use removable drive trays to switch OSes. Anyone have a clue as to whats going on???

SHS, you may be an administrator here but you obviously DON'T know your computers. If a modem has its own controller it is generally compatible with everything out there. If you noticed the specs say linux compatible, DUH? You really think its compatible with linux but not w/ DOS. Get REAL. I've been putting these things together since you were probably in LUVS or Pampers. I Know my hardware, It's just the nuances of the newer software that drives me and everybody else crazy at times. So don't go getting snotty on me. I didn't say I had the first. I said it was one of the first. But it appears that you have some perverse need to be superior, so I don't think this is the place to get the answers I need. Most message boards operate in the spirit of cooperation and helpfulness but I sense that this one is about oneupsmanship and glory.

DeadCats, Zomm hasn't said a thing about it, although I did question them. Standard reply "We'll get back to you in three business days" Well tomorrow is the third day! I'll keep haunting them but I was just hoping someone out there had a similar experience and a quick fix. No I don't have any special features enabled in W2K, at least not that I know of. W2K has lots of "services" that are enabled by default. Still learning this OS, that's why I came HERE. [This message has been edited by rompil (edited 14 February 2001).]

Software upgradable just means that the firmware can be flashed, like the bios of a motherboard. The controller of a modem is like the processor on a motherboard, it handles the instructions otherwise the CPU has to do it! The difference between a "winmodem" and a controller based modem is just that. This is one of the first PCI modems to feature its own controller.

It's a Zoom 2920 PCI modem. I got it cause it's not a winmodem, ie. it has it's own controller. Like I said in the original post this doesn't happen in 98, with the EXACT same hardware.
