Ok, can anyone tell me where the absolute cheapest place on the net to buy hardware (CPUs etc) is? It has to be a UK site, or one that ships to uk and can accept pounds. I know about ebuyer.com tekheads.co.uk and some others but there must be cheaper?!

Can anyone help me with this, Im running an athlon thunderbird 1ghz on a chaintech k7jd mobo The problem is that the mobo wont recognise the processor above 750 mhz. ive tried everything and the only thing i can do is change the default setting of the frequency setting to 132mhz (the highest) and it runs at 983mhz or something I tried up[censored] the bios but that wont work Also, i cant change the multiplier on the mobo What could be the problem Thanks in advance! yeah, tried that, but any settings you change on the dip switches, it doesnt make any difference to the actual speed

Ok guys, ive posted this before but no reply, anyway, I have a creatie pc dvd encore 1240e with the dxr3 board. Ever since i started using win 2k, i had a probelm in that, even with the latest beta win 2k drivers, i cant put my system into suspend/standby (this is quite important on my system). Anyway, i thought that windows xp would be more compatible with it, but, what a surprise, it isnt i get the same problem. Does anyone know if creative will be writng some win xp drivers for this as i cant watch my dvds at the moment!!! Thanks in advance.

thanks for the suggestion, but i need the dxr3 cos i need a tv out. any graphics card tv out that i have used in the past dont sem to give me as high a wuality as the dxr3

Woohoo!!! I woke up t his morning and what did i find, my Windows XP RC1 disc in the UK, finally!!! Still, M$ should sent us a complimentary copy of RC2 just for taking so long!

Can anyone help me with this, I decided to try out the keydisk function that i found in windows xp (file in system32 called syskey, its also in win2K) Anyway, it all went fine and i selected to use a disk when starting the pc up and placed a disk in the drive and it wrote the data. Now when i start up, i put the disk in when it asks me but i get an error saying something like the password supplied as the current password on the disk is not correct, or something like that. Now i cannot get into winxp, what files can i modify to stop asking for the disk or anything to get round it???

i know this build is a bit old by now but i need help with it. I just installed it and when i go to log on it says you need to activate it before i can log on. Whta can i do to get passed this cos i know the 2475 activation is different to the others

how do you get past the logon screen with 2462, i just get the 'miossing files' error, i cant find a activation required key in the registry which fixed this in 2428. Ive changed the regdone key but i cant change the activation required key cos there isnt one! how do i do it in this build??

ok thanks, i fixed it with winlogon form 2428 but what is sysparse whsich i didnt need to delete in the end?

I just bought fireall 2001 to use with win2k, but i wanted to use it with whistler 2428 aswell. I read some previous posts and i figured that this could be done, but when i tried it, i get an unsupported os message. How can i get round this, if there is a way?? Thanks in advance

Thanks but i tried and you cant put it into compatibility mode, the tab doesnt appear on the properties menu. Even if you create a shortcut to the setup prog and then select compatibility mode, it makes no difference. Oh well

As we know, the final release of xp will probably have loads of protection eg activation etc. I have decided to stick with 2428 for now and was wondering which file or reg key you change to make system properties say win xp or whatever instead of windows 2000. so far ive only managed to change the command prompt which also used to say win 2000 thanks in advance

When i log on to xp 2428 the msconifg program loads up. I had previously changed some settings but now when i click normal and reboot i get a boot.ini error. Then when i load another os, i replace the boot.ini file and reboot. Then i can load whistler but msconfig is still there but now it says that normal has been selected. When normal is selected, it should not start up at logon, how can i stop this happening, is there a registry edit for it. thanks in advance
