Well as a starter you can go out and buy a new DSL modem. You have the freedom of choosing even SDSL but they cost GBP£800 upwards This is the first time i hear of this problem being honest but it seems like you might be having trouble with your usb HW or SW. What is your config? If your chipset is VIA, then that is the trouble some models and drivers are wreaking havoc on w2k (for the USB root)

Disabling the file protection is a bit f an overkill if you ask me and it points to a faulty/cracked etc. installation. I have not seen any machine that had problems with SP except 2. One was HW the other corrupt kernel.

You have got to call HP and order new SW CD. if 3300 does not support w2k, Tough. You can buy a new scanner from your nearest selected stores. I recommend HP5370C A lot better scanner.

I also use Unix a lot so got the commands confused sometimes With using deny only problem i can see is having 100 users which all have to be limited etc. But this is not the case with you. Clean install. there is a 50 chance for upgrade. and even then user profiles etc are not configured properly.

You can change it through the profiles... you can define where should it be stored etc. If you wanna go registry hunting it is up to you but NT shell handles it nicely.

Try to create an ISO image first. it is always helpful if loads of small files or slow HDD is involved.

I was wondering is anybody else having problems with the drives above. especially in the raw mode or for any fancy recording (bootable etc.) I use nero, Goldenhawk and Blind write. there always seems to be something wrong with the end products. I also have EZ CD 5 but hated it. I am fed up buying CD-R Software so any feedback would be appreciated.

Well you've got the totally wrong idea. My first recorder was a 1x Philips that cost $5000, and i always had Yamaha and HP since. (HP is actually philips and yamaha with better firmware etc.) I am not claiming the drive is bad or anything. I ordered 3 more of the same drive and tested it. They were all the same. But they worked fine on some other systems in the office. I was just trying to get the facts why it might cause problems. and I did in the end. No it seems you do not have the ability to understand what this is about... I just asked in the first place if anybody else was having problems. Which they were. We are not here to listen to what you think is best etc. I am repeating again. This drive is (or the one you claim to have) not burnproof. It does waste CD's and this is not due to low resources and such. We are not here to show off our machines, or use the config as signatures. I ahve a compaq machine here which belongs to somebody else. does the same weird thing if I put 256 MB CL2 100Mhz as it is own. it is micron. If i take it out and put 133Mhz it works fine Beat this! And let me know if you have a solution to... I thought it was faulty module. But it worked fine on other boards.

Install TCP/IP for better networking. also you have to create a user with enough privilages to access anything on your machine. In this case, whatever your friend is using as UN and pass. Create a power user or admin on your machine (w2k) Then go and share whatever you wanna share, and make sure group/user you just created is listed in the permissions sections to be allowed to read or full control.

The way it works is, windows will move stagnant sevices and processes to your page file to free up physical memory which obviously is a lot faster. So far I dunno a way to stop windows using it. However if you have 512 MB memory. the first 120-180 Mb of it is used by system and the rest by applications. and page file usually only goes and plays with itself. So as a result you will not see any real performance increase or decrease if you use or not use the page file. But it is nice to have it large for the occasion when an application goes haywire with a memory leak and takes up 400Mb or so. It happens with adaptec ez CD sometimes. Than you have space to move around, and you can terminate the process more easily. If you ask me not worth the effort, keep it as it is.
