I think there is a case of miscommunication. to clear it up, RDRam Good, Rambus Bad! For the newbees P4 stuff that claims 1600Mhz etc...

First let me explain the BT one. Yes it is connected to the splitter via normal RJ11 which can also take RJ45 since it has 8 pins etc. And the Modem is connected to your machine via USB port, or if you have the multi user, there is a router which has 5 RJ45 connectors which you can stick in to any hub Nic etc. I am afraid I am going to make a kind of newbie comment You can probably stick it in to your hub instead of STB, And in theory you can connect another RJ45 from your Hub to your STB and it should work. But in the worst case you will use your TV service. I have a feeling you have already tryed this. What Homechoice would have to say about this is out of my hands. But I can tell you this the reason you are using Dial up networking is the limitation of the windows and companys limiting BW coming together. They wanna make sure you use their driver which limits the speed. As you know u can put any number you like on the dial up window and it will connect. Can you let me know if you have tryed this and the result. I will ask around couple of friends in the meantime. We share the same room with some of HomeChoice machines in globalswitch. I will ask their engineers as well. PS. Just a reminder as far as I know Highest youcan get with Homechoice is 12.8 KBPS

ctfmon.exe/mdm.exe - spawn of satan. How do I remove the evi

Himm Ali, For your information those files are not trojans etc. They are windows files! -
As always clutch, I totally agree with you. But hey. if they were not there how would guys like us make money

Sorry buddy, i thought you had sorted the problem. All I do in this forum is if you see my messages try to help people (a bit too sarcastically som times ) Go to the Network and Dial up connections, select your internet connection, and go to the "Sharing" Tab. When you are there just check enable internet connection sharing. It will assign an IP adress to the host machine but you do not have to do anything about it etc. As long as TCP/IP is installed for your network adapter all the computers can use that connection I hope it helps. PS. I dunno why nobody else replied to your msg. In the future you will see there are multiple types of users on this forum.

For some reason my drive decided to work fine since last week. only thing that changed is the bios of MB. I can burn 16x on the fly no problem even CD's with thousands of small files.

LOL.... I have DVD accelerator, it works just fine It is up to you for the rest. since we all become disciples of Evil Microsoft the moment we buy windows etc. -
Well you don't need to do anything. It uses physical memory first. but there is a problem. if you have 512 Physical your virtual I would suggest 512-1GB. Preferably shared equally between two drives. It just sits there and is not used.

Office 2000 Default Save Location.

Try network profiles You can modify user home directory's ie mapped drives -
If you want to restrict acces choose decline for modify. decline takes precedence over allow. and yes all accounts belong to the users group. If you remove them it will still be the users group unless you define it as guest. But keep the guest disabled if you ask me.

Next time take a break, go to the menus and read them

If it is the same router that BT uses which it is, just stick it to your USB port or the HUB depending on the equipment you have. the speed limitation is via the drivers. otherwise ADSL comes as 2Mbit standart on the rest of the continent. All you need is an RJ45 connection to the splitter.

Uykucu replied to Dazultra2000's topic in Software
Do not remove them. they are system files and services. If you stop messing with them your windows will live longer. Unless you have some sort of reinitialization wish. Of and they only take 5MB of memory in total so???? what resources? -
Sorry buddy not with your level of knowledge. No offense intended. Do as Clutch says, your life will be easier. on a self extractor you can define default path but user can modify it if needed.

I had already agreed on better architecture But your and my customers are a bit different. They are not home users. They are small to medium businesses. And if the brand spanking new machine they just paid for does not make the perfect coffee in the morinings and give a blow job. They are on the phone giving my poor technical support staff grief about it! So I say, I vote for the stability... And Brian, have you ever tryed RDRam (AKA RamBus) It is more unstable then athlon! and on top of it they had to cut down on the MIPS for the P4 to accomodate the MMX2 or whatever they are calling it now. So taking everything in to account. P3 first athlon sec. Celeron and P4 I do not find worth mentioning. (Sorry to everybody who has a celeron or P4 but it is the sad truth. PS. Higher Freq. on the same architecture will cause more registry misreportings, corrupt data and process pockets and L2 Cache overflow which will immediately lead to lower MIPS than expected and in some cases lower MIPS than the original Freq. since CPU registers have to keep going back and correct the data. I do not see it necessary to mention Latency, voltage and heat problems...

Hey buddy I was not repeating propaganda of evil Intel or something like that I was just telling you what I keep seeing. Not on the board but about %70 of the times, when myself or one of my engineers go for troubleshooting, for this and that it is an Athlon Or Duron. And trust me, these are not the problems that can be fixed with Reg patch. I do agree it is not the CPU. But as general there is no SW that supports Athlon except 1-2 games, And Chipsets and controllers are plagued by trouble. My comments were more like a question to people who use athlon. About the Dual, Athlon has not been designed for parallel processing. Whoever claims otherwise go read up. But for that sake neither is P3. It is Pentium Pro, Xeon and Itanium that real multi CPU devices. And even if the athlon works I ask again If you need so much MIPS as of Athlon 2 or 4 CPU's PS: BTW I have a feeling yours was mildest comment i am going to get.
-
I do agree that athlon is a better architecture (I know have a degrees in electronics and mathematics) But what i do not understand is why does people still stick to it. It is uncapable of running a decent nt4 or 5 machine no matter what peripherials you have. It is not the CPU itself all the time but support and chipset this or that. or some patch not existing. Why does people even bother OK, Athlon is about half the price of P3 (for the literal ones not exactly but verry close). If a computer is not going to run properly and you keep tinkering with it than you might as well get a PS2 since you are only using it for games otherwise you wouldn't be having time to tinker with it in the first place. And may i also point out that more than half of help or troubleshooting questions on this board is based on a Athlon system. for the subject of Dual Athlon. There is no such capability neither in the old ones or the new. It does not matter what they claim on the tech sheet. The reason there was no MB's was cause it was not working. If you really require dual CPU power than you should get Xeon or Itanium. Or if you have more money and Alpha (although a bit harder to get nowadays still the best). But I forgot. You can not run your Quake on it. To conclude. If it sounds like a duck, looks like one and feels like one it probably is a duck. If you ask get what is recommended if not stop complaining.

try assigning IP's under the same subnet.

Tell them to check inherited security settings. It seems like your parent directory is set to use it or the default web site is. so everytime it reboots or config changes it is put back. htaccess is not necessarily apache. IIS can also use it with an extra module. but tell them ti scrap htaccess and use asp authentication. or even better windows auth. since they are running on NT

1 machine on network cannot access mail!!! HELP PLEASE!
Uykucu replied to HELLBRINGER's topic in Networking
If you can ping it then try traceing it tracert your.bloody.mail.server If you are failing to reach the host I suggest you check your network settings maximum hops and such. If you have used one of those tweak this that programs they usually mess with stuff they shouldn't. Maximum network hops should be set to default. (I dunno your system it differs from Net to net. -

Uykucu replied to HELLBRINGER's topic in Networking
Exactly how are those people hacking your system and doing what mischiefs to your files etc hellbringer? Do not mistaken stupid port scan's to hacking. If you really get hacked, you will know. And Zonealarm, blackice etc can not help you against somebody who knows what they are doing. Check out you account settings, there is something called "My SMTP server requires authentication. make sure it is unchecked. also try pinging your mail server when zonealarm is enabled or disabled. If all pings fail, then there is no such server. also some ISP's will not allow you to use SMTP unless you are in a certain IP range (like theirs) try using smtp of your ISP if not already doing so. PS ping command: Open dos prompt then type "ping mail.bois.qwest.net" -
I think we should put this article in the frontpage or something. this is what 6th time this month???

Do you have any network drives mapped or such, or are you using a domain. That specific slow down is usually W2k caching some network components, or looking up the machines nearby.
-
You were talking about a modem. What is it? If it is a SW modem that would explain all your troubles. ACPI does not really have anything to do with normal operation of your machine it only screws up when you are going to standby/hibernate or coming back. So I do not go to standby or hibernate and me and w2k are as happy as any couple could be! PS. If it is not the modem than there is only your NIC left. as they have suggested earlier try changing it. configure your network protocols properly so it doesn't look for DHCP etc. which i presume you do not have one.

Hellbringer, No offence but seeing all your problems. God men where did u get that machine? or who built it. I have not yet met somebody who has so many problems on his machine. I would suggest checking your memory components. (replacing that is) and being a lot more careful where you get you machine, parts from. cheap is usually bad!
