try dreamweaver. MX is just out about a month ago... It does everything you asked and more. It is a bit pricey though since it is a prof. tool. But you can try out the preview version.

Exactly... I have never used a cable modem in my life. I switched from dial up to DSL and frame relays (talk about spoiled...) How do you get so much time to play around with so many toys... I can hardly find enough time to do anything personal and when i go home, last thing i want to see is another computer (actually a comp with a problem) So i just read a book or something like that. -
Yes good one Dosfreak

You are correct clutch. I just did not know that modem specifically. I thought it was a router on its own so i recomemnded it's IP as the gateway. well he is sorted anyway. -

Quote: my modem is a surfboard model 3100. my ip is static. Then find out what your IP is and set it in your network settings as the gateway. that will sort you out. PS. When i say IP i mean the static one your ISP Assigns. You also have to phone them and find out what the DNS's are to set them in network properties. -
I thought you have patched it b4 but yes, if you have cracked the activation you will get this msg.... i suggest you buy it

Hi Guys. I had to reinstall w2k again on one of my PC's recently here is what it was and my problem. There were 2 HDD's on it which both of them dynamic designated c and d (Dough!) and CD's Y and Z which is irrelevant. After the format and setup i have performed, when i tried to reach c from the adress bar which is how i usually do it i got an error c is not a valid drive When i looked at it. i saw the HDD's where designated F: and G: I know it is caused by the information stored on the 8 MB space on the disks, and i can change the secondart one but as you can guess not the boot. Any suggestions on how to correct this apart from a low level total format??? It ain't terribly important but i have a tendency to look for C over the network so it is annoying when you are in a hurry etc.

Quote: I'm doing this from XP, but I believe there should be this option under 2k as well. Go into Computer Management under Administrative tools-->Storage and go to disk management. Here, you can right click on the drive you want in the right-hand pane and you should seen an option to "Change drive letter and path" That should fix it. Yes but it does not let you modify the boot drive. I have already done the rest. And no PM won't do it... It can change a drive letter but then you can't boot. any other suggestions apart from another format

I dunno how you set it exactly it differs from model to model and your isp... Post your modem model and brand. i will have a look. Also have a talk with your ISP and find out what your IP is etc. If it is static or dynamic. -
so??? it is clear enough....

Quote: Quote: Quote: Installing 2K SP3 on a dual-boot with XP makes XP unable to boot. This is because 2K SP3 replaces the NTLDR/NTDETECT.COM with it's own which does not recognize XP. FIX: Replace NTLDR/NTDETECT.COM with the XP versions. Stupid Microsoft. It's not SP3, this is true for any install of W2K after WXP. You will always need the newer NTLDR for dual boot to work. Install XP last and you avoid problems. Yeeess, but they bothered to provide an updated NTLDR/NTDETECT.COM in SP3 so why not update it to be XP aware? That is the point that I was making. It's thing's like these that do not happen in the *nix world. NT4 was still compatible with the 2000 NTLDR/NTDETECT.COM....but XP was not. Interesting is it not? It's a bug.. I recommend bug spray. it can be obtained from your local Supermarket any leading brand would do.

First thing is, on the nice picture you have posted you are showing a DSL cable modem router so i presume you have one. Find out what the IP is for your DSL router. If you can set it yourself set it's internal IP to 192.168.0.1 and Subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 Now go to both of your machines, log in with administrative rights, right click on My Network Places and choose properties. if you set up your Nic's properly you should see a Local Area Connection Icon. Right clck on it and choose properties again. Pick the TCPIP and again click on properties. In there, choose Use the IP address specified and respectively give your computers the following. 192.168.0.2 192.168.0.3 Sub Nert mask will be automatically set to 255.255.255.0 if not make it so. On the gateway field for both machines, type the IP of your router this tells your computers how to get to the internet 192.168.0.1 In most cases you can leave the DNS fields empty, but if needed, find out what their IP's are from your ISP and enter it in those fields. Whola, you are all set etc.... There are a lots of different ways to do this this is the one i use in most cases. post if you have any more trouble. One warning.... if you do not have a router (ie. your modem plugs in to a usb port on one of your computers..... the case is different. Let me know if so, i will post seperate instructions. -
Try cleaning out the cache of IE. along with all offline content etc. (last part is not essential). Sometimes Windows Update SW messes up during install and can not get the new version either etc. I dunno exactly why since i never actually bothered to find out. But deleting your cache will sort you out. How To: Right Click on Internet Explorer Icon on your desktop and choose properties. OR Go to Control Panel and double click Internet Properties Under the general tab there will be a button such as delete files. I suggest you check delete all offline content also but it is up to you. Afterwards just go to Windows Update again. You should be sorted...

Quote: Actually thats what ive found recently, ppl just think "ooohh computer dont work....must call IT, instead of pushing the power button" ppl really need to use some initiative Yes but then we will have serious trouble finding something to take piss out of. Also, you are a site admin or something like that, imagine all your users take the initiative and start messing about with your route tables, FW Rules or Exchange settings etc. (I know they can't but for the sake of argument). Wouldn't this make your job easier? and much more fun (not to mention verry intersting) I think we will have a new terminology "IT Supportal" or something with reference to "postal" Scarry!

Quote: ...includes 'Mother Microsoft's' own spyware (auto-update junk)...better to wait awhile on SP3 as it's *reputed* to have bugs. I can't validate the source of the bug data but since SP2 is ok, why rush into a dark room, so to speak? Yawn, and another fashionable MS basher adds their words or wisdom. So lets hear it then, please tell, please share with us all. Please list me all the "spyware" that is included with this service release. You see, with automatic up[censored] I see this little check box that starts with "Keep my computer up to date" and if I uncheck it, guess what? No automatic up[censored]. Reputed to have bugs would indicate that some alrge companies have had problems with this service release. All of the reports I've read have indicated just the opposit, but once again please hit us with the information, I'm sure we'd all like to hear it. All this paranoia just doesn't make any sense. There is no spyware in windows, there never was as far as i am aware. there is talk that they are cehecking your product key but so what? Even that activation everybody is so wired about in win xp and office xp does nothing more than reporting which country you are in and what your key is.

Quote: Can someone assist? I have a Acer laptop on a network running w2k with active directory. Laptop runs w2k, The laptop keeps automatically locking the desktop after about 15mins of inactivity. I have tried various power sav settings to no avail, done the reg entry to stop the use of lock desktop with no change. Active directory is not pushing any policies to the group this user belongs to, very baffeling this is the ony computer out of 120 runnin w2k on this server that is doing it. Thanks I know it sounds simple but is the screen saver active??? If set to it will automatically lock the machine when SCR kicks in.

Quote: Ah, you guys are gonna hate me... but I like Mac OS X!!! I messed around on some Macs yesterday before I had to go to work while I was at the mall shopping & in CompUSA it reaffirmed one preference I have: Mac OS X interface is fantastic looking & easy to use! * They're gonna throw it all in, as much as they can from the patent safes as well as R&D to make it this round... mac users will get the benefits. (BUT, PC's are what the deal is now for the most part... I am sure that won't & doesn't bug a "Mac Fiend" at all, as long as he/she gets the best stuff they can to run their fantastic OS!) APK P.S.=> PC man here, I own no Macs... but I have to admit I find the looks of the Aqua interface VERY impressive... I like looks in programs, just like other things (cars, women, etc.)... matters nearly as much as function & I consider it a bonus personally when both are present! apk I don't have a personal problem with you why should i? my problem is with Mac's!!! Although OSX looks fantastic i have not used it enough to comment on it.
