ok heres my problem,i have to run defrag at least once a week now or my whole drive is all over the place,heres my questions: 1.isnt ntfs spose to be less defrag prone than fat 2.and could this problem be the drive itself causing this? any help will be appreciated thanx, harlock

unreal 2 is the main one im waiting for among others i loved unreal and unreal tournament.besides the graphics look simply amazing i just hope the gameplay is just as equally good

which mother board would you buy? SY-K7V DRAGON+ soyo or msi K7T266 Pro2-RU im very fond of both these makers and have never had any trouble with either.the problem is i cant decide which to buy for my new comp,so im trying to get some opinions on both.btw im really not interested in any other boards,asus is good but too expensive,and ive heard nothing but bad things about iwill,abit,fic.the ones ive heard are ok,epox,gigabyte,ecs,chaintech,biostar,and tyan.ive done extensive research on all of them so my opinions are informed,but opinions none the less.anyway enough ranting now how bout your opinions?

well i hadnt considered the kt333 ddr as brian pointed price is an issue,my wife is ringing my neck for spending any money at all:D the reason im choosing these 2 manufactures is becuase these are the only board makers ive ever used and ive never had problems with them ever. on a side note are the durons worth the money?ive never used them and the only athlon ive used is my current slot a 600mhz,i know either way ill be seeing a boost,but im trying for the price performance thing again this time around so any money saved on components is more money towards others.i had hoped this time around i wouldnt have to do this but oh well.thanx for the replies so far harlock

i dont know about game of the year but i am definitly looking foward to it,ive never payed a subscription fee before but i just might with this one.i just wish halo had come out on the pc kinda similar to planetside but thing was the whole team based play not just capture the flag and what not but based on what abilities your good at i.e driving,shooting,flying etc...and having to work together to acomplish goals like having a gunner for the buggy and someone else driving that kinda teamwork.

im getting error messages when i try to start up games or anything else for that matter alot now that i updated my drivers,this problem was happing before the update,but not as much every once in a while it would happen but not enough for me to worryhere is the error message i get,the numbers are different for each application but the error is the same this particular one is for startrek voyager elite force error#1 the instruction at 0x05d15781 referenced memeory at 0x00000000 the memory could not be read error#2 instruction at 0x05d15fd referenced memory at 0x00000118 the memory could not be read both these errors happend at the same time i click on one the pops up and then i can close the offending app. any help would be much appreciated thanx,harlock

ok i got a vs p installed using the compatibility fix that all went fine,but when i try to run the game it starts up and then just drops back to the desktop.any ideas on how to fix this? specs: athlon 600 768 megs ecc tnt2 m64 32 meg,1080 det's,anthing newer i find just drgrades my performance so ive stuck with these sb live x-gamer realtek 10mb ethernet 26 gig quantum fireball win 2000 fat32 install sp2 all compatibility updates TIA,harlock sorry iwas tired when i posted this should have included a little more info.when it drops back to the desktop no error is given what so ever no errors in the logs either so i have no idea whats going on. and since noone has responded i thought that might be one of the probs

will it work on 2000? i'd really like to be able to use the multi-desktop feature like with linux that power toys has. thanx harlock

ah ok thanx viper i guess i wasnt exactly clear on that one being that it was 3 or so in the morning and i was dead tired :)but i will add the line and report back. on a side note i did change win32seperation from 2 to 1 and it has no side effects but my outlook and ie seem to load a little faster of course i could be crazy or tired since now ive been all nite anyway with my sick kid

v436 is the latest right unless another one just came out and i dont know about ive had v436 for sometime now and this just started happining recently

i recently formatted and tried to reinstall win2k,but i kept getting this system root/nt/32.dll error at startup,would not load windows whatsoever, so i went through and tried numerous things and the only thing that worked was to put my cd-rom on the secondary ide channel and completly disconnect my dvd drive.now it all worked fine before the format and cant imagine what could be the problem.as it stands i have a dvd drive i can no longer use in windows.one interesting thing though is everything works in linux just fine no errors whatsoever,although that might be because linux seems to be more tolerent of hardware configs,well to me anyway. any ideas? thanx harlock

i pretty much only collect mcfarlane stuff,but i also have a ton of robotech toy's as well and some final fantasy,and a couple of starwars pez dispensers,im wierd i know:D .my wife is always yelling at me cause if im not buying parts for the box im buying toy's:D oh almost forgot about the marvin the martian stuff, but i wont get started on that:D

im using the 12.41's on a tnt2 m64 and never had any probs in win2000 and speed is good too about 50 to 54fps at 1024x768 high detail,most games(ut,q3 etc..). i used the 10.80's before and they ran great as well, so either one of them

what you want to look at is your uncached read and write speeds they tell the real story,if you are getting 40 to 50 meg a second i'd be surprised,also the os has some to do with but it is mostly harware related . and no hardrive will ever perform at the speced speed.ata33,66,100 are all theoretical burst speeds,maximum for a given second or so,like within an apps first nanosecond of launching.
