  1. I have recently put Win XP on my system and I have only come to realise how slow win2k is in gaming. In 3dmark 2001, I got 730marks 1024, 16bit. In Win XP, this score went to 2400marks. Likewise, in Counterstrike, win2k's framerate will only hit 60fps (refresh rate) when I look into a corner, and can drop to below 20fps, In XP, most of the time it's at 60 and only drops to about 30-40 in heavy fighting and smoke. I have the following system. Win2k, 4.29 via drivers Win XP b2462, packages drivers, C2 566@850 1.7v Arcticooler Asus P3V4X 1004 bios 256mb PC133 Leadtek GF2MX 215/205 7.52 driver IBM DESKSTAR 75GXP 45GB Quantum 10.2GB CX 36x CdRom 2x 3com 3c905b Alcatel ADSL Modem-Bigpond Is there a way to install the mobo drivers from the XP partition/cd into win2k seeing as XP is built on Win2k?

WIN2k reallly Slowwwww with p3v4x... HELP!!!!

Well seeing as it had to do with openGL/directx games and apps and the hardware I am using I thought it suited to post to both topics to get the broadest knowledge base possible WITHOUT spamming. So far it seems in this forum I have only got 1 half-witted response from someone with no idea.

    ADSL in XP

After a nice and easy install of Whistler, i tried to install the ADSL software from my provider, Telstra (aust.) and it fails to detect a valid network stack to use to connect to the net through the ADSL modem. In win2k, I have the one cable into a hub, which the adsl modem is also connected to. The NIC has it's own ip address and the adsl binds to the P.P.P.o.E. adapter which has DHCP enabled. (no ip specified) This works fine and allow simutaneous internet and LAN connections over the same cable through the same NIC. This setup does not work with XP for some reason. I can still connect to the other computer on the network so it's not the NIC which is the problem. Is there some special switch i need to enable for LAN connections to the internet to be enabled?. Whistler Registration

As you are all probably aware, whislter has an inbuilt copy protection which requires it to be registered with MS. I know there are ways around this rather annoying process, but will it cause my install to cease to work? The fix i found requires an alteration to the RegDone key in the registry. I did this several days after i installed the OS, but the registration window continues to show. ------------------ C2 566@850 1.7v Arcticooler Asus P3V4X 256mb PC133 Leadtek GF2MX 215/205 IBM DESKSTAR 75GXP 45GB Quantum 10.2GB CX 36x CdRom 2x 3com 3c905b Win 2000 Pro Whistler B2462 Alcatel ADSL Modem-Bigpond

    ADSL in XP

Yay, that worked sweet. I tried to do that b4, except i skipped the scren which has the information for modem connection (area code, phone number). This time i entered values into the fields and the setup did the rest. Altering Bootup Choice Window

Is it possible to alter, or preferably remove the inbuilt bootup menu that is installed with XP? I use Boot Magic and this now adds a second layer of booting options to this...and it's defaulted to XP, not what i want.
