http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/library/resources/reskit/tools/hotfixes/sysdiff-o.asp Someone mentioned before that they wanted a way to incorporate everything into a windows 2000 install (i.e. WMP7, IE6, DX8 etc), this lets you do it. Quality.

I think to be honest it is the USB device is crappy (no manufacturer name on it, and when I eventually found out, the website had no drivers). Advanced Server is possibly more tolerant

7.17 are solid as a rock, and speedy, the 12.00 produce problems rendering bitmaps on a number of systems, look at the thread regarding the 12s for some info

Thanks, but it's not my idea. It's a friend of mine, I'd post his email address so you could send him credit, but he'd probably not like it. PS, Thom, I was gonna credit you when I got home tonight, I was just gonna ride that wave of praise for a little while longer.

I was referring specifically to Dial Up Access to the internet, although it does use the same TCP stack as a LAN/WAN connection. I don't think it's a random chance thing either, since the connection in Advanced Server is always at least 25% faster than Pro. Any ideas, if you need more info, let me know.

Anyone know how to do this?

You guys have mp3s? If you do then this is for you. Shove them all in a folder, and if poss subfolders by artist, then right click on the taskbar, and select new toolbar, point it to the root folder of your mp3s (i.e.) e:\mp3s\ not the folder of any one artist, then click OK. Now, it will probably try to take up all the taskbar, but drag it towards the clock, and voila, a list of mp3s arranged in the style of a start menu that pops up and scrolls.

I imagine Microsoft made more of an effort with the TCP networking code in Advanced Server than they did with Professional, and it shows as my throughput is always much faster in Advanced Server, but it begs the question, if they have this high speed ability in Advanced Server, why hamper Pro? It's like someone must've said "Shall we make 2K Pro faster and better? Nah."
-
What is the story with this thing. In 2K Pro it slows the system down to horrific 486 speeds (judder judder) every time you try to connect to the internet and all the time you are connected. Windows take ages to redraw etc. But, and it's a big but, reboot into Advanced Server, and the same drivers have absolutely no problem with the modem, it runs flawlessly, so, is this a problem with the modem, or some power management or TCP/IP problem in 2K Pro? If it's any help, I ahad the same problem in Me, and I am convinces the TCP in Advanced Server is better as I get noticeably faster connections every time in it.

Not sure personally, but in all my experience (both NT and 2K), whenever you have to dualboot with a 9x OS, the 9x OS always has to go on first, cause installing it always alters the MBR so boo.ini isn't even referenced. I don't knwo about simply putting in another HD with 9x on it and editing boot.ini, though NT seems quite accommo[censored] and probably would co-operate if you got the syntax OK
