MSIE6 uninstalled, now IE5.5 woes??? HELP
DavidJonesIGI replied to Mike Zamarocy's topic in Software
It's a beta guys! You expect it to play nice with all other programs etc. If it did that, it would be Gold Release. -
Exasperated: Why even care about 9x results, 9x is keich, I had a dual boot between Me and 2K Pro until I realised I wasn't using Me. Ever. So I replaced it with 2K Advanced Server. When you look at 9x compared to NT/2K line, they just look so empty and full of nothingness, you just can't do anything with them, the memory management isn't as good, they crash more often, they aren't as secure (any program can write to the Windows dir or registry without asking for example) All of you with 9x on your hard drives, get it off. Convert the volume to NTFS, and enjoy computing as it was meant to be, uptime as long as you want and no BSOD. Microsoft were right to do that advert, you know, cut out and keep this BSOD, cause with Windows 2000 you won't ever see them again.

Yes, in 98, if a program is shaky, then it flies all over the system crashing every other programme it can, in 2K all programmes are "Sandboxed", and if they try anything stupid, they crash themselves, and Windows keeps on rollin' rollin' rollin'. It's a simple featuer, and I don't know why M$ can't just integrate it into all versions of Windows, but then, that would mean business users would use 95/98 and then Microsoft couldn't charge them extra for NT/2K.

I am running a 1GHz Athlon T-Bird on KT7 motherboard. My BIOS is a bit old, bit I can't update it till I get my new fan in (the current one doesn't support RPM reading) I solved the AGP problem with the 10.80 drivers by reinstalling the VIA 4 in 1 after the drivers. Maybe something was up and the install routine automatically installed the ALi agp GART file that it ships with? I will try the 12.00 drivers again and let you know.

I have done this without any problems, first thing is to go to the Pro machine and reinstall VNC, then make sure it is running as a service (use task Manager to confirm), then set the password, and make sure "Disable remote keyboard and pointer" is not set on. That should be it, then go to the Adv Svr machine and try to connect.

I had 2000 running on 128 Megs, and though not brilliant it was OK. Windows 2000 is the best OS ever. When you get used to the ide of accounts (possibly the hardest thing for new users), you just think "Wow, what have I even been doing with 98/Me." I have been running 2K of about a year, and I am still waiting for it to crash or give me a BSOD

Me is a far more lightweight OS than 2K and thus you can expect it to run faster on intensive stuff

Id this maybe a rights and permission issue in NTFS? Check the security tab on the file properties and see if you have write access.

Hi guys, yeah, no problem, rather than email it all, you can get it on www.bink.nu he has a ton of good stuff. Hope it's of help

Thanks, I will try the 10.58 version drivers.

Hi and first of all, thanks for the links. I tried them, but the version 12s are horrible on my PC. I am running Windows 2000 (dual boot between Professional and Advanced Server), and both are patched to SP1. The problem is that as soon as I apply the new drivers and rebbot, the traditional drop shadow on the mouse pointer is replaced by a solid black square, and more annonyingly, if you run DXDIAG, I find out that AGP is gone. At the moment I am running the 7.17 drivers without any probs at all, but I think there are 7.57 WHQL drivers, so I will get those. Any ideas what the problems are with these drivers? P.S. I am using a GeForce 256 with DDR RAM.

There was a way to do it, I have a copy of the guide document, if you want it, leave a message here and I will email you it.

Sheesh guys, you don't even know how to install a simple thing like a driver, cant find an inf file, c'mon, if you can't do something like that, why are you even running an NT based OS? Get back to 9x, and I mean now.

Does anyone have a link for the latest drivers, the Nvidia site seems to think the current release is 6.51 or something like that, have Nvidia stopped actually releasing drivers on their site and now started distributing them through hardware review sites?

If it was really running at 250MHz in Windows 2000, yuo would know all about it, (judder judder grind grind, crash etc)
