    Linksys Router Port Forwarding

i had the same problem, what i did was set my network up static and when i want to send a file using the chat program, i forward all my ports (1 - 65000) on the comp ip that im sending the file with. never had a problem receiving files though This router is a pain if you want to be a server! you could also turn off the firewall all together in the filters section where it says block requests instead. if you forward all the ports to your ip, it will take internet access away from the other computers on your network if you have any i never use dmz but i think the dmz is a bunch of crap because it never helped me when i tried to send files i always had to forward. I'm not sure, but i think you can forward a few ports maybe and it might work. But I've always just said screw-it and forward all ports for the time that i want to send a file, then change it back. I hope this helps a little

    DSL question

yeah you can do this but you need an ip address for each computer. there are a few ways that you can do this if you want to share the connection this way. One way is to order an ip address for each computer that wants the internet from your isp. Another way is buy a router plug your dsl into the router, then plug the router into your uplink port on your hub. Or you can use proxie software. Good luck

    policy for win2000

hi I read what was posted in the message below about policy editing for NT 4.0 server but i still need help. I've got win 2k server running with active directory and crap. on the server, i created a user named "server" and added him as a member of a group that i created so he can log onto the server locally. I'm using poledit.exe, and want to "hide drives in my computer" only for the user "server." I was able to hide the drives for everyone when i clicked: file,connect,compname,server/administrator. checked the box, and then saved it. where exactly on my drive am i opening this file and saving it? if i create a new policy for the user "server", what directory should i save it in? if it requires me to save it in my netlogon under the shares directory thing in computer management, how can i do that?

    win2k and 98 network issues

I'm running a lan with 3 comps, which all use zonealarm. My network consists of: client for microsoft networks, file and print sharing, tcp/ip, and ipx/spx. I'm running a 100base network. (all of my comps are using identical network cards) My windows 98 machines have no issues at all. They browse the network really fast, with and without zonealarm running. My personal comp is duel booted with windows 98 and windows 2000 professional. (2000 with the NTFS file system). ____________________________________________ The first issue is with my comp when i run windows 2000 on it. Using network neighborhood, or clicking start, then run \\compname to browse either of the 98 machines over the network, it takes a long time for their shared drives to show up. It doesnt take too long, but it takes longer then it should. After they show up i can browse through the drives quickly though. When i boot my comp in 98 and do the same thing, they show up right away. So now i figure its not a hardware issue at all, just a 2000 and 98 thing. *I already removed everything in my network dialog box and re-added it all.(it seemed to me like some kind of client issue) but that didnt fix the prob. --any ideas on how to get 2000 to show the 98 drives just as quickly as it shows them when running 98? --could it be a fat32 and NTFS network security thing? ____________________________________________ The other issue is with zonealarm. Using 98 i can see and browse the network fine with zonealarm running on all machines. While running 2000 on my comp, I cant see the network at all if the 98 machines are running zonealarm. Its kind of annoying. Well i could go to zonealarm help for this one, but to be honest i dont really feel like it, so im just asking here about it if know why and feel like telling me lol. ------------------- addition info: my comp is made up of: asus a7v kt133 socket a amd athelon 800mhz 256mb pc133 sdram 40 gig western digital 7200rpm 3dfx voodoo 5500 sound blaster live linksys etherfast 10/100
