    Emulation Mode

I read in a magazine( PCGamer, i think) that for programmes that give you trouble in 2wk, you can "trick" the system to think that it's running in 98 native. I'm running a game, Freespace 2, that is very choppy. I can't believe it's my system, as I'm running an AMD 1ghz, 512 ram and a GeForce2 MX. The system requirements are something like 200mhz... The only thing i can think of is that the game isn't rated for W2k and maybe something can be done... Thanks for the reply, Regards, NikeShox

    Emulation Mode

Where can I find the screen in W2k that allows me to "trick" the program into thinking that it's running under a different OS, like 98? Thanks

    Sierra and Philips

If i go into the device manager, i've got these showing for sound... Audio Codecs Legacy Audio Drivers Legacy Video Capture Devices Media Control Devices Philips Acoustic Edge Audio Video Codecs That seems a bit much for video and audio...can the Audio Codecs and Legacy Audio Drivers be eliminated, as they might be causing a conflict?

    Sierra and Philips

since the philips has the proprietary cable into the sound card, i'm somewhat limited. So...i did try and use the headphones, to see if it was the speakers....no luck...headphones produce the same problem.

    Sierra and Philips

Does anyone have a philips acoustic edge sound card and play HL? my problem is that I only get sound out of one speaker...it's as if my right side is deaf...as i turn, the sound comes and goes. i've got the latest drivers for the sound card and HL, but it only seems to happen on HL and any other Sierra product. I emailed them and they were no help at all. (Did it say Windows 2000 compatible on the box when you purchased it, sir? man...they are a condecending bunch.) Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am somewhat of a W2k noob.

    Black Screen....then Restart

I would say 90% of the time, it's when I'm on the internet. I just downloaded the nvidia refresh fix and it hasn't done it for a while, so I'm thinking it might have had something to do with the monitor? i guess we'll have to wait and see...

    Which Firewall...

This was ZDnet's review... BlackIce Defender was one of the first personal firewalls on the market and the top dog for a long time. But newer programs such as ZoneAlarm and Norton Personal Firewall have since surpassed it in usability and effectiveness. BlackIce provides standard and dynamic protection filters that analyze network traffic and detect and block suspicious patterns. But this approach means that BlackIce sometimes blocks applications you want to use. We prefer ZoneAlarm's customizable approach to Internet security, in which you specify which applications are allowed to access the Net.

    Black Screen....then Restart

Ok...another problem....a few instances, the computer goes to a black screen, and then restarts. There is no error message screen, no sounds or beeps to alert me and it restarts as if it's the first time booting up. Any ideas?

    Mass Storage Controller

I just installed Windows 2000 on my computer (clean install/not a dual boot system) and the device manager is telling me that the Mass Storage Controller drivers for this device are not installed. The system seems to run fine, but it just bugs me that there is something missing...what could it be? i've installed that extra USB port card that came with the A7V as well, but I'm not sure that's a problem (although there is another device manager error for PCI Input Device (i'm assuming that's the USB card)if you know where to get the driver for that as well, it would be greatly appreciated, as I've checked ASUS with no luck) my system setup is thus.... ASUS A7V bios 1007 (the latest) VIA chipset 4.29 drivers installed 512MB PC-133 Western Digital 20gig HD ATA66 32MB Prophet GeForce II MX (latest 2k drivers) Philips Acoustic Edge(latest 2k drivers)
