Hello, after installing nt4 + sp6a for the 3rd time, i still can't get any sound card to function cleanly, by that i mean, with out sounding dirty. I use headphones when ever i want to listen to cds, mp3 or games, i find its very annoying. Especially when there is no sound at all, appart from the the buzzing coming internal bus(?). I had the same problem with with a sb16 under 95, i could change the internal gain, to minimise the problem, but with nt4 and the drivers i can't seem to do that. I have an ISA crystal based sound, also a forte media 801 based pci sound card. Both work correctly. Cheers for any help. Paul

Hello, I currently have NT 4.0 + sp6a installed, i want to upgrade to a bigger harddisk (20~30g), currently i have FAT on a 4.1g drive. Obviously its got 2 x 2g partitions. So why the question? 1. If i install a new harddisk, with NTFS installed, can i have a partition bigger then 2 gig. 2. If the machine dies, can i get to the harddisk ? Linux ? some tools? 3. Would NTFS cause me problems with any software (dos based stuff?)? Cheers paul

Does the radio require an input on the sound card?

Hello, How can i get my machine to power off when doing the shutdown command, instead of waiting then turning it off? Yes it is ATX powered, so i'm assuming some regedit hacking? I can't find any option to do it for me. Cheers Paul

Hello, Thanks for th reply. I found that information out yesterday I tried it out, but no luck, i don't think my motherboard supports it. Its an Acer 6500/6200 pentium 2 mobo from 1997. I know it can suspend to disk, but not software power off, well not that i can find. Thanks. Paul -
ARGH.... I had 2 windows 9x machines before this, i could share a printer, files or whatever with ease. I for some reason can't share files and printers correctly. I have TCP/IP install on machines, i know the network is functioning correctly, i can paste files from the win 98 machine to the an NT shared folder. I can't view anything from the NT to the 98 side, shared drives, directories or the printer. I've tried using \\paul\fs1000 etc for the share names in the add printer, it doesnt work. I can see the machine \\paul, but nothing below it. I've also tried dir \\paul\temp etc tring to see whats on the drive. No lucky either. net view shows up the machine on the lan ok. Maybe its something really silly ? Any ideas? Paul

Hello, i've fixed the error. I had on the NT machine a net mask of 255.255.0.0, where as on the windows 98 machine i have 255.255.255.0 ... Anyway, i changed the mask on the NT machine(to 255.255.255.0), now it works correctly, i installed the remote printer, it work 100%. I'm not to sure why it wouldn't work, but not to worry, its fixed. Paul

Well, i could view the machine faster, but i still can't install a network printer on NT, when the printer is on another computer running 98. Any Ideas? Paul + <-- me going crazy.

The sound being played is great, ie a wav or the cd player. The internal static the sound card picks up is really bad. Even with everything turned down, including the MIC/Line which is muted, i can still hear it. I might try a new sound card. Paul

Hello i can't get USNF normal cd install also the patched 1.4 version install to work under Windows NT 4.0 sp6a. It asks for directx 5, i have tried both, installing that, and skipping it. I have also tried using setwin95.cmd to patch the .exe I checked the faq of games, it says it should work. I have a pent2,64meg,4meg matrox millenium ii agp. Any ideas? Cheers Paul

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, i've looked at the list for NT4.0, it says it works. It installs ok, so i'm not really shure what else i could do to fix the problem. Maybe try some regedit hacking ? 8) This causes a great problem, i like the majority of the classic gold and other cheap types of games that don't require the latest hardware to run. Cheers paul
