  1. First of all I'm an idiot and a very desparate guy... I have two h.d.s, one 4gb and one 10gb, I started reinstalling win2kpro on the 4gb which is the primary active disk but during the text part of the installtion, the part when you create and delete partitions there was a delay when I tried to delete the 4gb partition and without seeing what I'm doing, I accidently deleted the 10gb... Please give me some hope and tell me there is a way to bring it back... Thanks.
  2. Hi, I have a problem with one of my customers, he connects to a certain Intel site and logs in to it with a loginid and a password. You enter the loginid and press "submit", everything's fine, you enter the password and submit, you get the "moving from secure to insecure" message and after a couple of seconds, you get a dns error. Of course there is no problem accessing this page from anywhere else. This problem is on ALL of the stations including the server. Their network is sbs4.5 and win2000 stations, they connect to the internet using a Cisco router and a 128kb ISDN line. All stations get the router as default gateway so that no proxy is involved. I tried using other ISP's dns servers for resolution(they don't have and internal dns) but still the same. I checked everything(I believe) that relates to the prob. but no success. Thanks for taking the time to read! Have you ever encountered this? Help will be highly apreciated!

    Odd surfing problem

Hi, I have a strange problem on one of the clients where I work. When you try to surf, within certain sites, to a secure(https) page it gives you "server not found or dns error". He gets his ip by dhcp and all other stations have no problem. Were talking about win98se and IE6 I tried to play with the ip configuration, gave him a static one and changed other info like dns server, it didn't help. Also reinstalling ie haven't helped. I enabled all of IE's security options and ssl checkboxes. I'm cracking my head here... Help me with this one, please. Thanks, fLy.
  4. Hi, after moving a section of a company from an old 486 novell server to a new win2000 server a couple of problems occured: 1)Share names are maximum 12 letters or else you won't see them in win9x clients. 2)On the login script run, when you try to "net use" the drive letter Z it says its already occupied although its not. This also happens only on 9x clients. Their system guy claims that another thing happend after the data transfer between the servers(it was first transfered to a client and then to the win2000 server): Another win98 thing...When he used the "include" command in a C language file and linked to a long file name, thats what he claims, it worked. Now, only short, bla~.bla names work. As far as I know, long file names doesn't work in a win9x dos window...He claims it worked...Possible? I personally think that something got f-cked during the data transfer but I can't put my finger on it. Has anyone encountered a similar situation, or problems? Help please! Thanks!
  5. Thanks for replying. They have NAV Corporate Edition installed and updated so a possibility of trojan/virus/hoax or any abuse is, for now, not considered. The problem of the "Z" drive has got something to do with W2K Server using that drive for the login procedure, after the login script ends you can map the "Z" drive freely. One option is to put a batch in the startup folder of the relevant stations and one option ofcourse is to make windows use a different drive letter for its operations. The question is, ofcourse, is it possible? Thanks and Happy New Year! b.t.w I know its annoying, you just tell yourself: "why *%^&^$&^ can't he just use a different letter..." He just needs it because he used it on the novell and now things are "connected" in the different mappings...
  6. Hi, I have a problem on a customer's computer, yeah, you guessed right XPpro is installed... Its part of a win2000 domain and its main use is a manging software that resides on the server and accessed with a client installed on it. You login to the domain with the username of the computer owner successfuly but on the managing software login it fails. You login to the domain as administrator and login to the software with the same username as before ... it works. Well, the first thing you think is that its probably a permission problem but even after adding the same user to the domain administrators group it didn't work. The managing software support says its definately a permissions problem...The thing is that this guy worked in the same spot with the same login to both the domain and the managing software before, just with win98 installed... The only thing I thought of but haven't succeded in trying is the subject. Does anyone know the solution to the problem, or the subject? Thanks.
  7. About the * question, its given by dhcp. I'll check everything out tommorow. Thanks.
  8. Thanks. ps. I'm damn sure its joined to the domain and logs on to it.
  9. Has anyone here ever succeeded in doing the subject, adding a domain user to a local WindowsXP group?
  10. THANKS! Everyone for the help!
  11. Apart from the problem stated, there is no other netwotking problem whatsoever, it pings everything it sees everyone and all the other computers see him and ping him. The shitty thing is that the customer having this problem has only one NT client and thats the XP station I'm talking about. As I said, I tried to do it in 3 different networks but only on winxp clients.
  12. The computer is joined to the domain.
  13. I tried to add the user the way its shown above but the thing is I can only see the local computer, not the entire domain. This has been tried with 3 different domains... I haven't thought of a script I have to say... Thanks!
  14. Ok, clutch where do I start... I want to add a domain user to the local winxp administrators group. Adding the same user to the domain admins group havn't solved the problem. The software I'm talking about is a database accessed by the client for that matter. The same guy who has the problem with the xp used to work until a week ago on a win98 station which worked PERFECTLY with the same login to the domain and the same login to the specific software. I'm talking about a domain with a single windows 2000 server with no policies whatsoever. Returning to the q...

  17. Where do I get the ie6wzd.exe? I'm trying to find it now anyway. Thanks! b.t.w When I try "c:\ie6setup /?" I get the following commandline options: /Q , /T:<full path> , /C , /C:<CMD> I found the win2000 package still on my hd after I installed it so thats one o.s. covered. Now I need the nt4/9x/me ones.
