I posted a problem about 2 months ago regarding SP2 and maxtor harddrives. I've figued out that when SP2 or SP1 installs, they install a new PCI driver of some sort, this driver would make my system (and some others) boot into a blue screen saying INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE (something like that)anyways the fix: Copy: atapi.sys (all found in the winnt/system32/drivers directory) pciide.sys pciidex.sys to a directory (eg:C:\Fix) Install SP2 as normal, before restarting the system to complete the installation, copy thoes 3 files back to winnt/system32/drivers directory and restart the system as normal.. as far as i know this was a issue with a Maxtor 20 gig HD and my epox 8kta2 mobo with the via kt133/686b chipset hope it helps! ps. feel free to reinstall the VIA 4-1 if paranoid

yup, Mandrake is pretty easy... though like any of the Linux Distros u will learn into the command line... in anycase its fun to learn that stuff anyways, one day they might make Tests for Linux....when linux rules the desktops lol -
windows wont boot, gives me blue screen of death, saying the inacessable device....

hmmm. maybe its a problem with the via chipset controlling the ide interface... i'm gonna look for a fix on Maxtor's Home page, or Via techs

what kinda HD? my Maxtor 20 gig ata/100 does the exact same thing... hmmmm

hmm... I own a SB Live... and Win2K is on the master HD... so i guess i wont be using SP1 or SP2 for awhile, i guess i'll go pokeing around the computer checking the jumpers, and what not..

yup... 431 beta i believe.... i dunno, i think when sp2 installs it overwrites the ide driver.. its kinda funny cause, it only effects the 20 gig hd, not my other hd, so maybe it's something to do with the ATA/100 interface.. so what elese could this be....?

Yeah, I did that and i'm back on win2k, but is there a possible fix so i can use SP2, i want to use SP2 because i've heard it has better memory management, compatibility all the good stuff, any ideas?

I just recently installed SP2 for Win2000, my system was working perfectly before this, I wasnt using SP1 because of the same problem, anyways i installed SP2 and rebooted, when booting i get the Inaccesable boot device blue screen, i'm thinking its Microsofts IDE driver, but i dont really know how to go about this...
