Not exactly. The deal behind the chips on both the santa cruz and xp game theater is the fact that they support more audio api's such as a3d and sensaura(I think). Plus they use different chips as a whole. The sc and xp used the circus logic or something like that ..while sb live utilizes the emuk chip.

Well I was gonna Go reply but i had to get to my evening summer class. Well the reason why I have sblive is because i didn't know about hte potential problems at the time although I am not suffering from it. But everyone seems to like the Santa Cruz for good music playback and stuff

that's why there's open GL and yeah it all comes down to the games themselves. Madden 2k1 performs well in 2k. Unreal tournament doesn't (hence i run open GL), Giants runs flawlessly in 2000 using t&L D3D. I only have a tb 750 , 384 MB RAM and a Gf2 GTS pro. What other D3D games.. oh yeah need for speed 5 is another flawless performer

If I get my hands on XP I will slap it on my system during a break period from school. If i like it, it stays... but then I can always go back to the fascinating win2k. I really like the functionality of it.

what are your friend's system specs? Are they as identical as yours? Is he running windows 2000 as well? Same motherboard and chipset? Did you install service pack 2? The AMD registry patch, the VIA 4 in 1 drivers?

yeah..verify about the firewall possibility. Did you also update your UT version? I think the latest is 4.36 .

I remember seeing the knowledge base saying that the vcache needs to be modified or something. Oh yeah ..prum I think you need to install service pack 2. That include the VIA AGP fix. That could be why your 3d apps were hanging in win2k. At least according to MS.

to the one having hanging problems in 2k. Are you running an Athlon system? If so, install service pack 2 along w/ the aMD registry patch. I don't think it has anything to do w/ the acpi irq management. but yeah download those patches then see what happens

You shouldn't need to do anything for that promise card of yours..it should set to DMA by default. Try installing the newest drivers for them

Well the other ports are disabled by default. Go into setup and go into standard cmos , then go into secondary master, primary and secondary slaves, and change their settings from none to auto.

do you have any quirky usb devices? I know win2k install didn't like my usb finger trackball
